First at the Main Menu you will have to go into Armory> Specializations. From there you will want to set a primary specialization and a secondary. You will earn credits to unlock attachments and new weapons by using the weapon you choose. If your primary specialization is assault rifles you will only earn credits when you get kills with assault rifles. You will want to set your specializations to weapons that you are use to using. After you earn enough credits you will unlock a weapon to use, equip it in the armory and get 50 kills with it. You can get the kills on regular socom maps or cold front maps it doesn't matter.
