How to unlock the Karate Master achievement in Sonic Adventure 2 - Definitive Guide

To unlock Super Rank in Chao Karate you must first beat Beginner, Intermediate and Expert levels, then Super will become playable the next time you select a fight. If you are playing this purely for the achievement and not for fun, I recommend not attempting chao karate at all until you are confident that your chao is strong enough/high enough in levels to beat them all in one go (99 in all stats is not required but almost guarantees winning), this will make the fights over almost instantly up to expert in one attack.

Super rank can be tricky if your chao has D* - E* stat grades, even if level 99 on them, so if possible try to get a chao that has at least 3 C*'s or above and as minimal D*' - E*'s as possible, swim (defense) , power (attack) and run (speed) are the most vital in my opinion, so try make sure your chao has C's or above in at least 2 of these stats before you start leveling them up.

The Super Rank itself is fairly challenging as it has 3 chaos chao as the final 3 fights, the angel chao has extremely high defense, the devil has good attack power and the last, neutral chao is strong all around so prepare for a fight.

If you want to level up your chao quickly I suggest using the infinite ring glitch that involves buying an expensive item, depositing it in your chao garden then leaving/saving. After this re-enter the garden, pick up your item and take it back to the shop to sell it, you will get 1/4 of the items original price back in rings. Now, DO NOT exit the garden manually after you have sold it. Press start, select settings and click on vibration, turn it on or off, either will do, then exit, you will notice a 'saving' title in the top right of the screen while it loads back to the chao world. After this, either dashboard or turn off/reset your Xbox360, then go back onto the game and you will notice your rings are the same as you left them when you sold your item, however, if you go back into the chao garden you will notice your item is still inside as if it was never sold. This is because there are two separate save files for the Sonic Adventure 2 missions and Chao Garden, and since you did not leave the garden when you sold the item, the chao data (item) did not save, but toggling the settings saved the separate data with the ring count.

Repeat this process until you have as many rings required to buy chao fruits as you want (these will increase all stats when eaten), then feed them to your chao, it does not matter about its morality (hero/dark) for Chao Karate, although I recommend neutral as it allows it to enter all race modes in the Chao Races if you are also going for the 180 Emblems achievement.

Hope this helps! :D

I failed to complete this with my maxed out BSDEA Chaos chao, but won super level handily (about 2 minutes tops) with my BBSSD Regular Chao.

My recommendation is that, if you are going for this, do not make a chaos chao (they can't breed) unless you're sure you can make it with your base stat distribution. I had to start over and breed this chao because neither of its parents (BECSE and EBSCD) was strong enough either.

For a how-to of easy chao breeding, this was my resource:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7ZTkgpdLqs&t=741s&i...

I only had to go through one cycle of breeding. An S in Run means you will always move first and an S in Power means that every match takes, at the very most, three hits.

My original chao (DCBEC) had a D in Swim and an E in power, but was still able to win in all of the races. However even at full lvl 99, it couldn't complete in Super Rank at all, barely doing chip damage to some of the opponents, and only winning by Ring Out, when not just losing outright. It accidentally evolved into a Fly chao when I wasn't looking, which might have hurt its odds more than anything.

I had to breed it with another Chao (CDEBD), and got lucky with a CDBBD, which I then evolved into a Swim chao, so it had B's across the board in Swim, Run, and Power (the most important stats for karate).

At the end, I was just barely able to beat the Super level tournament with 1700 Swim, 1400 Fly, 1650 Run, 2100 Power, and 670 Stamina stat spread. Only Power was maxed to lvl 99, the other stats were only around 80, and Stamina a bit over 40. At this level, my chao speed-tied most of the opponents, and dealt more damage than most of them. The only issue was if my chao started out with the power fist, against an enemy spin kick, but as soon as they started kicking, the fight was over.

One last thing, bats may be bad for chao karate, since I've heard chao can't perform the spin kick if they have no legs (which are removed when over-feeding bats), which means they would always be using the much slower power fist maneuver, which loses to spin kick.

Then you've done it wrong, its not hard you just need to read it properly or watch a video.

It does work. The glitch will probably never be patched anyway.

I think some of you just have bad luck. I took my first born raised it to 99 in almost everything but Run and Stamina (I has no S ranks on it) and just ran it through and won.

This really isn't too complicated.

1) Clear your schedule. No matter what, raising a Chao good enough for Chao Karate (and the Chao Races, assuming you're trying to get all 180 Emblems as fast as possible) takes time. Hours. And hours. Yes, you can use the glitch as mentioned on this page to artificially raise the Chao's stats, but what if you can't get the hang of that glitch? This strategy is slightly longer, but the benefits are great.

2) Raise your Chao in the Hero Garden. You're going to be feeding your Chao a lot, and for some reason, the fruits that grow in the Hero Garden are glitched; if you raise your Chao on fruits grown in the neutral Garden or the Dark Garden, it will take at least two-and-a-half fruits to gain one level in Stamina, but just one fruit in the Hero Garden will raise stamina one level. Don't ask questions, just be grateful.

3) Get a Chao with good stats. An all-'S' Chao is naturally the ideal, but is obviously not necessary (and the odds of just getting a freshly-purchased Chao with all 'S'-ranks, without breeding one, are laughably astronomical). If it has an 'E'-rank in any of his five stats (Swim, Fly, Run, Power, and Stamina), either get rid of the Chao or, if you want, raise him until he grows into adulthood - the grade of the Chao's type when it hits adulthood will increase by one. For instance, if you have a newborn Chao with the following stats...

Swim: C
Fly: D
Run: A
Power: B
Stamina: D

...and you raise it to be a Run-type Chao, when it hits puberty, its stats will change to the following:

Swim: C
Fly: D
Run: S
Power: B
Stamina: D

Note that this grade increase will only take place at the Chao's puberty, NOT its reincarnation. If you are raising a Chao purely to get its stats up for the Chao Races and Chao Karate, then having one with no 'E'-ranks is highly recommended. If it has no 'E'-ranks, it's still recommended that you at least raise your Chao to puberty, upgrading its lowest stat. You don't want a baby fighting Light Chao anyway.

When your Chao becomes an adult (with no 'E's), continue to Step #4.

4) Prepare to go to Prison Lane. A lot. Yes, Prison Lane. And guess what? For this strategy, you're not touching a single animal. Oh, that's right - nothing but Chaos Drives.

Why Chaos Drives? Well, it's for cleanliness more than anything else. For one, with the exception of animals in the special categories (Miscellaneous [Blue], Ghost [Black], and Legendary [Gold]), all animals lower your baseline stat percentage. They won't lower your actual stat, but if you want to make your Chao upkeep organized, the Chaos Drives are ideal because they only raise exactly one of four types, meaning there's no confusion or ambiguity. For two, would you rather waste time hunting specific animals in their specific locations, or would you prefer a more whammy-bammy-thank-you-mammy method?

Speaking of, it's simple: Go to Prison Lane, and kill the first ten GUN enemies you walk into, picking up their Drives along the way; this level is ideal because, as a mech level, there's plenty there to greet you when you start out. You're only going to be in the level for thirty seconds, but you're going to have to go there at least one hundred times. Like I said: hours. And hours.

There's no need to complicate it: get ten Chaos Drives in Prison Lane, give your Chao the ten drives, Start-Exit Game-repeat. Every now and then, stick around in the Garden to feed your Chao. Which, by the by, is a whole other monkey we need to swing.

5) If you feed your Chao one fruit, feed him TEN fruits. Contrary to what some believe, your Chao will not begin hating you if you keep trying to feed it when it's full. At times, your Garden will seem to be overflowing with fruits, so do something with them: give your Chao one, then go around the Garden and stockpile them around the Chao. When he throws a fruit away, just give him another one, and keep going until the pile is gone. If you've fed your Chao ten full fruits from the Hero Garden, its Stamina will be at Level 10, just like that. I also think this feeding method makes an infant Chao hit puberty faster, but I haven't really thought much into that.

6) Remember to be kind. If, at any time, your Chao falls asleep, let it sleep; when it wakes up, see Step #5. If it wants held or petted, humor it. Don't neglect being a good mommy/daddy/owner/whatever-you're-supposed-to-be just because you're in a hurry.

7) Repeat Steps #4-#6 until your Chao is maxed out. There's really no reason not to just push and push until your Chao is Level 99 in all stats, including stamina. Hammer it with Drives and fruits, get into the routine, and you can't really go wrong. Consider the following: once you get your Chao to Level 99 in all stats, when you enter a Race or a Karate match, you will never have to even look at the screen; your Chao will likely be so powerful that it'll do all the work for you. Don't take my word for that, however. If your Chao's run grade is low, then it'll struggle in the races, and all of the Chao's stats need to be respectable for Karate. For the most part, however, if your Chao is completely leveled-up, it should complete the Beginner and Standard Karate matches in one hit apiece, and the Expert and Super tournaments won't go all that much worse.

I just did all races and karate and got all my stats for a beginner egg chao to 99. Swimming was my lowest at 1200, my highest was power at 2500 (chao was power type), run was 1800 and rest were around 1500-1700.

The best and quickest way I think would be to make a hero and dark run type as most tracks mainly running for harder races. Since I had lower running than a run type I found it a close race or had to use stamina to keep up whereas a run type would speed ahead and have no problems. You will have one low stat but you can either use stamina boost in running areas to get a head start or blast to finish line or to give u help during your weakest area on track. I tried to win all races before at level 99 in all but I wasn't quick enough though when I won all races my power was still only at 1500 but I needed it near full to win karate but with high speed you can get a ring out quickly with low power.

You will have to do it twice for the hero and dark races. For my second chao to do the dark race (opposite to what alinment your first chao was) i made him a speed type and leveled his speed and stamina to level 99 ending up with 2700 run. For the races, power and flying arnt as needed as you can catch up with your high speed so i left these at around 600-700. Swimming is needed though due to large pool near finish line of 3 of the races. I got swimming to 1200 and was able to beat the chaos chao easily. If you have low swimming just increase power or flying to make up time lost in pool. You do not have to get full stats like the first chao to do karate and other races so just try and aim for these base stats and only level up more if you think you need it.

I just grinded out animals instead of chaos drives. As soon as you get 10 animals you can exit stage and go straight to chao garden. I will not explain exact locations for all animals exploring level you can find enough easily and pick what route best for you and it will be difficult to point out all locations. Just remember to whistle in pipes if you find one.

I got speed up by grinding city escape getting all wild animals (not hard to spot and whistle in pipes if you find them) and 3 chao boxes for the unicorn for high speed boost.

I got power up in rouges finding keys level in pyramid (forgot name) by collecting bears and gorillas from enemies (tryed to avoid skunks) and if you get 2 parrots you also get one level for flying every run. I basically did one lap of outside level killing all enemies on the way. In blue hub i hit rocket and went into middle area and broke raised crate on ground to right for chao key and broke 2nd chao box in plain sight to right later for bonus animals.

For swimming and flying I boosted metal harbour as sonic. I collected all flying and swimming animals again avoiding raccoons. I got first chao box after first time you use light dash it is hidden to left in mini building before second light dash. I also got second chao box before spring to rocket for extra animals. When giving chao the animals just be careful of seals as they lower flying.

This may not be best method but I found it to be quick and good way to get quick levels.

There is a glitch for fast levelling Chao's, see the video at bottom of guide;

You are dropping the power-up just in-front of the Chao, you don't want to directly give it to the Chao, if done correctly the stats will improve and the power-up will remain and can be used infinite times.

It does take a while to get used to doing this method and judging the correct distance to drop the power-up will come in time.

This can be done with any animal or power-up, the guy uses a skeleton dog in the video as this had the most improvement but I just use the power-ups I get doing the levels.

Compared to even You Are The Legend this is probably to most time consuming trophy and the longest grind you will have when aiming for 100%.

To excess Chao Karate you must enter through the cave in the neutral Chao Garden, when you enter the cave you will be given the choice to choose between Chao Race and Chao Karate. When you start Chao Karate for the first time you are given the following 3 difficulties first:

  • Beginner
  • Standard
  • Expert

Upon completing these tournaments levels the Super Level Tournament will unlock, which is the one you want to beat for this trophy. Each tournament contains 5 opponents, here is a list of all your opponents in each tournament (names in the brackets represent possible alternate opponents):

Beginner:

  • Chaosky
  • Chaolin
  • Chaoko
  • Eggie (Dinner)
  • Happy

Standard:

  • Lucky
  • Smokey (Melody)
  • Stormy
  • Spooky
  • Stinky

Expert:

  • Magic (Chappy)
  • Ninja (Skull)
  • Tin (Woody)
  • Rainbow
  • Wacky

Super:

  • Crunch
  • Wacky
  • Crystal
  • Angel
  • Flash

Breaking Down Chao Karate:
In Chao Karate there are multiple ways winning a match, the conditions to winning are similar to a 3D fighting game such as Soul Calibur V. Here are the 3 different ways of winning:

  • Reduce your opponent's health to 0
  • Knock your opponent out of the ring
  • Have life lead when the timer runs out

During Chao Karate you can do nothing but cheer for your Chao by pressing , this may seem insignificant however simply pressing throughout the match will help keep your Chaos Zeal up.

Zeal is very important in Chao Karate, Zeal represents their energy and will to fight, it can even be described as a momentum bar as its effects work both ways with your Chao and the opponent. Zeal will increase slowly as you continue to cheer him on as well as for every hit he gets on the opposing Chao however Zeal will go down if your Chao gets hit and if his Zeal is reduced to nothing he will sit in place and meditate more Zeal.

Statistic Factors:
While it may seem odd to think a property level for swimming, running and flying play a role in Chao Karate those statistics actually represent something else in this mode. Here are what the properties represent in Chao Karate:

  • Swim = Defense: Lowers the damage you take
  • Fly = Stealth: Increases the likeliness for your Chao to dodge attacks
  • Run = Speed: Attack Speed, the higher it is the more often your Chao Attacks
  • Power = Power: This increases the damage your Chao does, your Chao also learns new attacks the higher the level is.
  • Stamina = Health: This increases the amount of health your Chao has in their health bar as well as the amount of Zeal they have.

Winning the earlier tournaments may not seem like much, however, to clear the Super Tournament you will need a near maxed out Chao to win it (MAX LEVEL 99). Even with a max level Chao you want to make sure the statistics for your Chao are balanced so that there are no weaknesses your opponent can exploit. Whilst statistics are important you also want to make sure the Chao has a good grade in that area, to find out the grade of a Chao pick them up and bring them to the Health Center in the Kindergarten.

Raising Your Chao:
When raising your Chao you want them to have nice balanced stats, using regular animals can conflict and mess your your properties. Aim to collect nothing but Legendary Animals which can be located in the 3rd Chao Box of each stage or in a hidden location. Continue playing stages until you have maxed out the amount you can hold, then try to grind out as many stats as you can using the Animal Glitch detailed under Chao Raiser.

Also keep in mind that your Chao has the chance of undergoing a metamorphosis and reborn into a child again, thus resetting its stats (please refer to Heaven or Hell for the evolution process). You can be quick with the Animal Glitch and try to grind it out quickly or you can try to care and pamper your Chao and let them recycle the evolution process until they have hit the max and you can evolve them into a Chaos Chao whom holds immortal life. To evolve a Chao into a Chaos Chao at this point you must give them 1 (and only 1) of each animal while raising them.

Use this video below for the fastest locations for each animal for the Chaos Chao, you could also use the video if you want to grind through and get the "Legendary" Animals quickly and grind level your Chao right away.
