How to unlock the Speedy Racer achievement in Sonic Adventure 2 - Definitive Guide

To win this race, you're gonna need Knuckles' hidden car.

(Each character has one, and to unlock it, you must earn the emblem for every single one of their missions, 1-5. It doesn't have to be an A, thankfully but you might as well, since there's an achievement for it already.)

Sonic Adventure 2You Are The LegendThe You Are The Legend achievement in Sonic Adventure 2 worth 540 pointsWin A RANK in all stages in Story Mode.

Once the Knuckles hidden car is unlocked, go to Kart Race(in 1P) and when you highlight Knuckles, press up on the D-pad.

I'll have a video guide with commentary in a couple of days, but for now the best advice I can give you is this:

--First off, learn the track. Each kart track varies by difficulty, but it does not vary by lap, like Race of AGES in Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed. It's pretty short, so you shouldn't have much trouble memorizing it.

--Second, watch your jumps. While Knux' speed is great and his acceleration is the best around, his jumping is sub-par. When taking ramps, make sure to account for his lack of flying distance. WHICH MEANS--don't take the middle ramp halfway through the track(over the large gap)--YOU WILL NOT MAKE IT. Instead, take either side of the trench and pick up the rings there for another chance to boost. Speaking of...

--Know WHEN to boost. About 3/4 through the track, there's a straight path with two lines of rings. It may be tempting, but don't boost there. You have a serious U-turn to make and you don't want to spend it peeling your carcass and car off the guardrails. Make the turn(with drifting, both with acceleration and without) and then unleash your boost. Not only is it perfect at that stretch of straight road, but if swerving isn't your specialty, it's the essential recovery function! It could very well be the difference between victory and sucking.

--Get accustomed to drifting/swerving. To drift in Sonic Adventure 2, briefly let go of the accelerator(A button), then quickly press it again while pulling your control stick in the direction you wish to turn. You'll know you did it correctly if you hear tires squealing. It's absolutely required to handle certain turns, and severely cuts down any stops you might incur on easier bends. For harder turns(such as the massive U-turn in the Expert track), releasing the Accel. intermittently(while still turning) also helps massively. Unfortunately, it makes your handling decrease during that time, and it might be difficult to pick up the next line(s) of rings while trying to regain control. To disable swerving, let go of the control stick(on straight paths, of course) until the squeals stop. This is essential with Knuckles' hidden car, as his accel. is directly tied to his handling. This means when he swerves, he slows down. So straighten him out as soon as possible to regain your top speed quickly and pick up any rings along the way.

--If your ranking is blue(5th or 6th place), you can start anew. Bad pun.
No lives in the kart race--you can start over as many times as you like. Remember that.

--The Speed Pad--there are a handful in the Novice and Standard tracks, but there's only one in the Expert lanes. It's not vital to hit it, but you can have fun Instagramming a selfie of your jaw smashing through the floor watching Knuckles blow past everybody. What's an excellent idea however is to grab the line of about 10-15 rings in front of said pad. Then you'll have room for more boosts.

That's all I can think of that can be explained without a video. One will be coming soon with commentary and all that, so get ready. But I honestly don't think you need it. I got this on my 2nd try. The only reason I didn't get it on my first is because I overestimated the ramp jump and fell in the water(see above).

So complete all of Knuckles' missions, get the hidden car, drift where needed, boost on straightaways, and watch your jump. You'll get this in no time. wave

Your advice for the driving is good, but honestly, you can win the expert race pretty easily with Knuckles' regular kart. It took me something like 5 tries because I had to learn the track and I suck in racing games, but it is actually much easier to win than you would think when you first try it.

To unlock Kart racing first you must play through either story and Comple either Route 101 (Tails) or Route 280 (Rouge) and when the stage ends it will notify you oyu have unlocked kart racing.

Quit to the main menu and all you have to do is complete the EXPERT kart race in first place and the achivement will pop.

Edit: The best car to use would be Sonic's super kart if you want an almost guarenteed win. Grab all the rings you can at the start, but make sure you have 20 before the 2 long bridges near the end of the lap and boost down those. If you do it on the first 2 laps without crashing, you won't get caught up by the AI and you'll win.

Well, the starter Cars are a bit slow. It's quite simple really, just stay on top of the ring collecting and boost only when on the massive straights. You could also try unlocking a super kart by completing all missions for one character and see how it goes then.

This really isn't a guide. You are just telling us we need to win.

You don't need any special car, just learn the race and drift accordingly. Personally I used Sonic, but as long as you boost when it is necessary, you are fine.

For this trophy you must complete the expert level in kart race mode, kart race will unlock once you have completed either of the kart missions from the HERO or DARK story:

Stage 9: Route 101
Stage 10: Route 280

When you unlock kart race you will have 3 difficulties unlocked right from the start, though you are only required to complete expert for this trophy you will have to complete the other two for their respective emblems as well.

  • Beginner
  • Standard
  • Expert

Character Choices:
There are mixed feelings on who should be the "recommended" character to use to make obtaining this trophy easier, first lets go over the pros and cons of each driver:

Top Speed, Decent Acceleration, Bad Braking
Balanced Driver
Good Acceleration, Decent Speed
Top Speed, Decent Acceleration, Bad Braking
Good Acceleration, Decent Speed
Balanced

Between the whole cast Sonic or Shadow would be a preferred driver for this trophy. Acceleration may a bit lower then the other two characters but their speed greatly make up for it, providing you are good at turning the tight corners then their low braking statistics shouldn't hold you back as much as low speed would from another character.

Quick Racing Tips:

  • Remember that every 20 rings you collect grant you a boost with , take the small detours at the start of straight aways for free rings for a guaranteed boost.
  • At tight corners don't be afraid to brake early and drift along the side with (you could also double tap to keep better speed), you may not be a full speed anymore but it's better then crashing into a wall.
