How to unlock the The Fastest & Strongest achievement in Sonic Adventure - Definitive Guide

I didn’t intent to write a guide for everything, but I got carried away. This game isn’t that hard aside from fighting w/ the camera and some leaps of faith here and there. Go ahead and run through the game w/ each character and I’ll point out a few things to speed along the A rank emblems.

General tips:
Try to make sure you are familiar w/ the course and keep track of what time you can complete it in. If you know a difficult section in the level is coming up, don’t get the checkpoint right before it or after it so you can restart at a more advantageous part.

Specific characters:
-Sonic;During areas where there are no obstacles or such, tap the X or B button as fast as you can. The initial burst after a Sonic Spin is the fastest you can go w/ out outside influence (speed strip, speed shoes, etc). Keep in mind when you are done Sonic Spinning, you want to be running, don’t let Sonic stay in his rolling ball state, he’ll generate a lot of friction. Unless you are totally proficient w/ shortcuts I don’t recommend them, you are prone to more hazards. And try to stay on the walls in stages like Emerald Coast and Speed Highway, if you don’t make it to the top of the level you should just restart.

-Tail; Get his flying upgrade from under the sewer behind the Twinkle Park entrance and fly as much as possible in his stages. Always fly through the floating rings. Tails’ A ranks are by far the easiest.

-Knuckles; Also easy. I guarantee you’ll land on a hint orb at least once, so just try to avoid these areas if you remember them to snag the B emblem. For his A rank locate all the shards w/ out touching them. Once you’ve laid out a plan to streamline collecting them, restart the stage w/ out exiting. The shards will be in the same place and can be collected within a minute easily.

-Amy;You can hit Zero, but only a certain amount of times before he becomes invincible. When you are at a dead stop or use your hammer when Amy’s not running, immediately jump. You cannot pick up speed very quickly by just running. Jumping is the fastest way to gain speed. When you come across a slope, make sure you are running and use your hammer to leap. This saves you time from running up or down a slope and maintains a lot of momentum.

-Big; I hate fishing and I hate Big, but at the very least I‘m here to offer some 'insight' (I use the term loosely because this is all conjecture on what seems (to me) to work) on how to fish w/ Big.Get all your power ups (locations provided by the generous Xtreme Nights)
Then hop into Trials and enter Twinkle park. The methods I've found useful for fishing are as follows; don't bother w/ X or B, just use A to reel. You can press Down, Left, and Right w/ you LS to tug on the line, but I don't recommend it unless the fish is aggressively swimming away. Now... what I had to actually look in the tutorial for was how to catch the fish once it bites. You have to tug on the line (Down on LS (not the button, the direction), you also have to do this in Hot Shelter to get to the additional area (the plug bit). Now that you have a 'HIT!' on the fish he will swim uncontrollably for a while (until a certain distance or until it runs into some environment). It seems that tugging on the line helps guide the fish and restrain his progression at least a little bit. Now this next part could take 10 seconds or 10 minutes depending on the fish. He will go through bouts of running away and becoming lethargic. When he stops trying to run away reel in as much as possible because this is the only time you can minimize the distance between you two. Also, don't tug on the line. It just seems to me that when you do, you only make the line slack and your fish will gain the courage to run away again that much faster. When he does run away, take it easy on the reeling and try to tug on the line. Try to place yourself at an advantageous spot, forcing the fish to initial swim into a wall and such. All of the fish seem totally random and it may be hard to spot a 2000g fish. Just go for the biggest fish. The pool in Twinkle Park is pretty small and won’t generate that many fish. If you catch the biggest fish in there and he’s only 1900g, exit the level and try again. The levels get bigger and so do the fish. Bare in mind that 2000g+ fish won’t always be in the hidden spot of the level either.

-E102 Gamma; I haven’t played this part recently (since 1999?), but I remember these being easy to obtain. Grab his power-ups before gunning for A rank and you’ll be fine.

I hoped that helped a little bit, guys.

I just can't seem to do it. I aced Hot Shelter's level, easily catching the 2000g fish. But I spent hours on the Emerald coast or lagoon (or whatever it is) and can't catch anything! I try as hard as I can and every single time they swim way out... and on the first two levels I can't seem to even find a 2000g fish =/ any ideas?

On the 3 latter levels, go for sharks. They're usually around the 2000 weight.

After spending hours fishing to no avail, I was about to give up but came along this guide. It has helped me finally learn how to catch those 2000g fish. Thanks a lot!

After 2 hours of restarting the Twinkle park level. I wanted to check I had all the lure power ups. Turns out I actually didn't get one in the prison on the Egg carrier where Amy is. Now I have them all, and on Twinkle park, a metal fish will spawn. (Not sure if you meant this, but considering no one mentions a metal fish here) First go, I got one that weighed 2200g. So double check you do have ALL the power ups.

Do you have to do the "A" and "B" rank wins together or are they separate plays of the same trial?

The worst are the A missions on Big’s story.

Ah, I know what you mean. In Twinkle Park (the first stage), fish out the three largest fish or any fish that could potentially weigh 2000g. If they aren't it, restart the level. I'm pretty confident the game won't spawn 2000g fish 1000% of the time.

I don't know what it is about Emerald coast, but yes, it definitely is the hardest one to catch big fish on. I wouldn't bother going in the little cavern, I don't think I've ever found a 2000g fish there.
Seraph, when a fish breaks away for a brief moment if will display the weight of the fish before the game restarts you. Note the area that 2000g+g fish swim around. This will at least make it easier to find. They had a usual spot they hung out it (at least for me). As far as catching the fish... there isn't much more I can tell you. If you're lucky, when you get the fish to bite, you can try to make it so that when he swims away, he swims into a wall. That would be your best bet there.
I think Ice Cap is the second stage. There are a lot of areas, but only two worth fishing in; the initial spot you start in and the other big area. Unfortunately you just have to get lucky because you can only fish from one spot.
You've caught 2000g fish before so I know you can do it. Keep at it and let me know what happens.

For this achievement, you will have to complete A Rank on all levels with all characters. You will have to go through "C,B, and A Rank" missions. The "C Rank" missions shall be done by simply going through that character's story. The "B and A Rank" missions will be done by going to "Trial" mode. The "B Rank" missions will be done by "Collecting 50 Rings" every time. The "A Rank" missions will always be finishing the level in a certain amount of time.

The only exceptions to these are Big's and Knuckles missions, where you have to catch a 1000G(B Rank) fish and 2000G(A Rank) fish. The only way you can get the B and A Ranks done is by getting all FOUR lure power ups and the Power Rod.

For Knuckles, the "B Rank" mission is getting all the pieces without an orb to help you find it. The "A Rank" missions will always be "Find All The Pieces In 1 Minute", except for "Sky Deck", as that gives you 2 Minutes.

NOTE:You must catch A fish that is 2000G in weight for Big's missions.
Power Up Locations for Big:

Power Rod:This will be located under his bed in the forest.

Lifebelt: This will be located at the part of the Mystic Ruins HUB area where you go to "Ice Cap". Right before you get into the pool of water, take a left and you will see the Life Belt.

Lure 1: This is in the sewer behind the Twinkle Park Entrance.

Lure 2: This will be located in a forest "Cave" in the Mystic Ruins Forest area. Just keep looking for areas that are surrounded by trees that you can travel "Into" and one of them shall have the power up.

Lure 3: This will be located in the "Ice Cap" Action Stage. Break the ice at the start of the level and travel through the cave that is under the ice. Keep going until you see Dinosaur bones.

Lure 4: This will be in one of the Prison Cells where Amy the Hedgehog was held captive in the Egg Carrier.

A good tip is
For the timed knuckals stages, if you find the next peaice and restart the level ( From the pause menu, not the main menu!) Then you can go right to the peacie with no need to serch, thats how i did mine.

It would be helpful if you could provide tips for what types of fish to look for, or locations within stages that have heavier fish.

The "B and A Rank" missions for Knuckles are different as well. For him, the "B Rank" ones require you to find the emerald pieces without using any hint balls, and the "A Rank" ones require you to find the pieces in a certain amount of time.

[96 emblems]

There are 32 action stages total and there are different Mission requirements for each stage’s trial: Missions C, B and A. Mission C is what you complete during Story mode. You can’t attempt a Mission B until C is complete, nor A until B is complete.

If you’ve completed the storyline, you will already have the 32 Mission C emblems, leaving 64 for Missions A and B. They will take 5-10 hours depending on your skill level. Don’t attempt these until you have all the upgrades for every character. If you followed the walkthrough linked in the story-related trophies, you should already have them. If not, check the Upgrade section of that walkthrough:

https://faqs.ign.com/articles/453/453821p1.html

Here are the emblem counts for each character:

Sonic = 30Tails = 15 Knuckles = 15 Amy = 9 E-102 = 15 Big = 12

Since the explanation for all the missions is quite lengthy, they’ve been posted in a separate thread. Please check here for in-depth detail and discussion on this trophy:

Sonic. Level B. You need to complete the level by collecting more than 50 rings. The main thing is that you don't get hurt at the end of the level

Sonic. Level A. You need to complete the level within a certain time. If you've played Sonic Adventure before, you won't have any problems. For some levels they give a lot of time, for others not enough.

Tails. Level B. You need to overtake Sonic by collecting more than 50 rings.

Tails. Level A. You need to overtake the faster Sonic. He barely lags behind you, but Tails can fly, and you can fly through almost the entire level, except for Ice Cap.

Knuckles. Level B. You need to find the fragments without using clues. It is not difficult. The main thing is not to accidentally hit it.

Knuckles. Level A. You need to find the fragments in one minute, at the Sky Deck stage they give 3 minutes.

Amy. Level B. Collect 50 rings, complete the level.

Amy. Level A. Complete the level within a certain time. Ignore the enemies, Amy is already slow, and ignore the robot chasing you.

Big. Level B. You need to catch a fish of 1000g and catch Froggy. (more details to come)

Big. Level A. You need to catch a fish of 2000g and catch Froggy. At the first two levels, such fish are difficult to find, and if you have not collected power-ups for the fishing rod, they will not appear at all. At the first level, catch metal fish, they are more significant. About fishing: when the fish takes the bait, you need to hook it by pulling the analogue to the left or right, then pull it by pressing and releasing . Cast your fishing rod while being close to the victim; although it will try to swim away immediately, it won’t be able to go far.

E-102 Gamma. Level B. Collect 50 rings and defeat the boss.

E-102 Gamma. Level A. Complete the level and defeat the boss so that a certain amount of time remains. Try to kill all the enemies on your way to add more time.

Big. Level A
General information:
- We collect all power-ups:
1. Under the bed in Big's house (fishing rod)
2. In the sewers, behind the entrance to Twinkle Park (level 4 hook)
3. In the jungle, on the way to Big's house. We go down the stairs and go right. We pass the river and reach its second current. Let's go left. We look for a lapel on the map (similar to the lapel with the key to the Lost Word in Knuckles’ campaign), and go there (level 3 hook)
4. Ice Cap level. Let's go up. We find an ice platform. We break through the ice and swim down (level 2 hook)
5. The same place where Amy was imprisoned on the Egg Carrier (level 1 hook)
6. Entrance to the Ice Cap (inflatable ring)
- When fishing, try to direct large fish facing towards you, using the left and right buttons
- Left and right buttons are inverted. Consider this
- Hook a fish - button down
- Fish in narrow spaces or in places where they can rest against you as they swim away from you

Level 1 (Twinkle Park): Only iron fish can be caught here. It may not always appear the first time, so we catch iron fish until we catch a fish weighing 2 kg. Catch it from the center of the reservoir - this way it will have less chance of swimming further away from you.
Level 2 (Ice Cap): We dive to where Froggy is swimming, and through the tunnel we swim to another part of the reservoir - we find the same place on the ground. Here you need to catch a meathead fish or a fish that looks like a shark... It shouldn't be difficult here.
Level 3: We are looking for a blunt-headed red fish in the water surrounding the island
Level 4: Drain the water and catch either sharks or slow-witted fish here.

Knuckles. Level A:
- On Sky Deck they give 2 minutes
- Unlike SA2, this game does not reset the location of the emerald pieces after you die or select Retry from the menu. You can take advantage of this: you can, for an unlimited amount of time, first find all the stones in the location, and remember their location, and then select in the Retry menu, and collect them in just one (or two) minutes. It's simple)
