How to unlock the Speed's My Game achievement in Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I - Definitive Guide
In order to clear the stage as fast as possible, you'll want to stick to the high ground wherever possible, and just run, run, run. Don't stop for rings or enemies.
See a 49 second speed run in this YouTube video. Using some of the tricks in it, you can still afford to get hit or mess up and still make it. This can be a tough achievement.

Yeah, it takes some expert skill and timing to pull this one off. Felt like a nice achievement.

Wish there was more achievements like this, I really enjoyed getting this one. Good video, I had no idea about that jump pad under the rock around the middle there, made about 10 seconds difference.

An easier way to get this achievement is to wait until you collect all the Chaos Emeralds and go through this level with Super Sonic, he can run faster and jump higher than normal Sonic and has the additional benefit of being invincible.

I absolutely agree. It seems silly to me to spend ages trying to get a near perfect run as normal sonic, considering that two of the other achievements are "Acquire all seven Chaos Emeralds" (and therefore enable Super Sonic) and "Clear all stages as Super Sonic". Your'e wasting your time going for this first. Get all the Chaos emeralds, and this will be a breeze as Super Sonic. I got well under a minute on my first try. My best as normal Sonic, after many attempts, was 1:15.

Important note: This run don't have to be perfect. Just run through the level as fast as you can. For instruction, I made a video - maybe it helps you.
Here's a recording i took of my brother's successful attempt. Just goes to show that you don't need to be perfect, just close to it.
