As you get score, the game will 'evolve' giving you more weapons, levels and difficulties to be selected. Once you have unlocked the 'Field' weapon, play Bonus Level 1-4. Collect the power ups as quickly as you can and then simply move from side to side to hit as many shapes as you can. 1500 chains will be easy and you'l also get the achievement for 10,000,000 score if you haven't already got it. The achievement(s) won't pop until it's game over, so don't quit.

OK, this takes a little more effort than the high score one, but can be done on the same level (5-2) with the same weapon (field).
Start off by taking out all the UFO's & collecting all the power-ups to max out your field size, the start strafing around the screen through the field of hexagons taking out as many as possible (you should really be able to get all of them)
Once the hexagons start to thin out a bit slow your movements down & be quite deliberate about the last few along with the UFO's as you want to make them last as long as possible to carry your combo through to the next area.
If you start the next area from 0 again the chances are that your combo will end in the mid 1400's by the time you clear it.
Assuming you get your combo through to the mini-boss globe & stars thing... take him out as quickly as possible so that he doesn't kill you & continue to strafe around the screen killing the diamond(ish) things dotted about. As you will see every time you kill one it will actually multiply giving you around 10 targets for each one you started with.
I finished with a combo of high 1600's using this method.

Another good choice is Bonus 1-4, I believe. The beginning is just a ton of hexagons, so if you sweep back and forth with the field you can easily get a combo over 2000. I just did it and came out with a combo of 3109 and a little over 11 million points.

Yeah, Bonus 1-4 is definitely the way to get this. There's nothing on this stage apart from the masses of hexagons, a few UFOs, and the boss at the end.
