How to unlock the The Path to 2409 achievement in Star Trek Online - Definitive Guide

There is a repeatable daily quest that awards a series of datachips corresponding to bits of the story that lead up to the events of Star Trek Online.

For Federation (and Federation allied Romulan) characters it is acquired from Commander Viala at Starfleet Academy and is called "History 101: Alpha Quadrant from 2380". For Klingon (and Klingon allied Romulan) characters it is a available from Ch'toh at the Klingon Academy and is called "Learning the Lore of the Empire".

It is available every day and each time you complete it you get one datachip at random. You must use the datachip from your inventory* to "discover" the related piece of lore. There are 165 required for the achievement and it can drop duplicates.

A complete list is here: http://sto.gamepedia.com/Lore

You can attempt each day with each of your characters* and you can trade with other players (including using the exchange).

* Make sure to use the datachips on the same character as it (probably) is not tracked account wide.

As mentioned by Flezza, this achievement is tracked in game as a series of accolades. From the in game menu (press cn_start), go to Missions > Mission Journal > Accolades > In Progress and then scroll down to Lore Accolades to see them.

Updated to include the correct quest name after comment from Lonesquiff.

Translation: "Lore is the most painful achievement you can get. You can fill all character spots with characters with human characters. First, do New Romulus story done and keep doing the cave missions for mark. Go to the school in Sol system, talk to the woman who gievs you the Datachip. Get 8 characters all doing this and it takes no time at all. It is just painful to get as you get the same Datachip a lot. Make sure you use the same character to redeem all the datachips and you'll get it done a lot faster (short time)."

I am playing a Federation, a Romulan and a Klingon Empire character. Instead of doing this with 3 separate accolade lists, I mail chips from my Romulan & Klingon to my Fed so he could add to his bigger accolade head start. It works.

At a mail station, press cn_RB to get to Compose Mail.
Highlight the "To:" box and press cn_A.
Type a @-symbol then your gamertag. Press cn_start to submit.
--- @{gamertag} --- (example: @thedude722)
Highlight the "Subject:" box and press cn_A. Type anything and press cn_start to submit.
Highlight the small inventory slot under the large 'body' box of the email. Press cn_A.
Highlight the datachip you wish to mail to your other character and press cn_A.
Press cn_X to Send the mail.

Any Klingon Empire character has to be at least level 10 (Lt Commander) to receive datachips from the library computer. Federation characters can be level 4 or higher to get datachips from the library computer. Also, Romulan Republic characters can join in the 2409 collecting after they choose an affiliation after the From the Ashes story arc.

To trade it you would have to strike up a trade with a person in game (aka start button when they are highlighted and initiate trade).

To sell it outright you would have to do it via the exchange. Earth space dock obviously as one, the academy also has one.

http://www.stoacademy.com/maps/maps/esd.png ESD exchange location at the bottom.

http://www.stoacademy.com/maps/maps/starfleet_academy.png Academy, building on right and its the little stock market arrow zig zag icon on the right.

Some adventure zone worlds also have one (aka New Romulus for example has it left and right of the teleporter when you first beam down to the staging area).

You can also access the exchange by calling in the S.S Azura in sector space.

After a quick investigation I'm pretty sure using the datachip is what ticks off the chapters in the accolade list (and also causes the relevant accolade popup to appear on the screen).

Got my first duplicate datachip, and cant figure out where to go in the menus to actually sell or trade it. Would that be back in the actual spacedock or elsewhere in the Academy?

The Trivia questions are not required for this. Originally the game gave you two ways to get datachips, but they have since changed this. In fact the info listed in the other solution is from a post on another site that's 4 years old. He just copy and pasted it on here.

Keep in mind though that the trivia is worth a little dilithium and some xp for very little trouble, so I'm still going to do it lol.

History 102 does not give you the datachip; it has you take a quiz over at the computers on the nearby wall. History 101 gives the datachip; you simply have to click on the laptop-like computer on the counter where Viala is. Fix that and this is a +1 guide for sure.

I would like someone else to confirm this:

With the latest update (November 2016) I can no longer find the Path to 2409 accolade list...

Press cn_start. Then cn_downcn_down to Missions. Then cn_right to Mission Journal. Then cn_RBcn_RBcn_RB to Accolades. Then cn_downcn_downcn_downcn_down to Lore Accolades. Then cn_A and scroll down the list.

You can filter this list by ALL, or IN PROGRESS, or COMPLETED by pressing cn_Y.

The Accolade list is so much easier now after the patch. Mine used to go crazy when scrolling through. I've got 13 Feds, 1 Rom and 1 Kling doing this everyday. I've gotten all but 1 of the chips read. 280 as overflow, and that doesn't include the bunch I sold. I hate RNG's :(

Throw those extra chips my way. I'm sure I need several of them. wave

I can't believe you went through the Fed "tutorial" 13 times just to get more chips. Crazy!

Is there a glitch when viewing the accolades? The toon I was collecting them on no longer has a lore category available but my other toons do.

@TheDude772 Once you've completed a faction tutorial you can skip it on future characters of that faction.

@Lonesquiff: After the update, the accolade stop showing for me too. It came back though once I managed to find another datachip I needed (inconvenient not being able to see progress, but I'm pretty sure it's still tracked fine).

These also show up under the Captain's log section in the large list of notifications there so that is a second place to track if the lore accolades are missing in the other section.

i think whats the biggest nightmare with this achievement is you get one data pad a day, and these always a chance of a duplicate because of course there is, and then it doesn't say where in game how many their are, but you can buy them from the exchange, baring they've got the ones you're after, basically this is more random luck than going into Game and saying loudly "Any games I can have for free" and walking out with a new xbox and a girlfriend.

+1 downvote. While History 102 does have you answer a trivia question it does not award a datachip and is therefore unnecessary for the achievement.

+1 upvote. Very handy for answering the questions presented at the same time as gaining the datachip and for working out just how many chapters there are in each volume.

Only suggestion I would have is to highlight the "Volume 1" line breaks, either by bolding or italitics, to make it easier to navigate when looking for a specific answer.

I've noticed my individual chip accolades were registering immediately, but the volume accolades were not until I left the area or logged out and came back in. When the next area loaded, that's when my volume accolade showed up. Remember this when you want your final chip to pop your achievement.

If you're playing several different characters, you can mail your datachips to one character, to make it easier to make the best progress. I am playing a Federation and a Klingon Empire character. Instead of doing this with 2 separate accolade lists, I mail chips from my Klingon to my Fed so he could add to his bigger accolade head start. It works.

Any Klingon Empire character has to be at least level 10 (Lt Commander) to receive datachips from the library computer. Federation characters can be level 4 or higher to get datachips from the library computer. (thanks Ironshield (formerly Galren)) Also, Romulan Republic characters can join in the 2409 collecting after they choose an affiliation after the From the Ashes story arc.

Press cn_A at a mail station, then press cn_RB to get to the Compose Mail tab.

Your receiving character must be at a Mail station to receive the attached goods. Go to your Inbox and highlight the mail with your goods. Press cn_Y to secure the item into your inventory. Use the datachip from your inventory and boom. Accolade.

Only use the datachips you need. Sell the rest on the Exchange so you can afford to buy gear or any missing datachips when you get a near-full collection.

Your character has to be level 10 if the character is Klingon, it's level 4 for Federation.

All the solutions posted below are correct, but they are missing the fast method. At the exchange if you search for "Datachip" under the "All" subsection you will be presented with a list of all datachips needed for the various achievements. You can then buy any chip you need to compete your list. They can be expensive so I recommend checking daily to see which are available cheap.

This method relies almost entirely on credits. The best way to make quick credits are anomalies within missions. By completing the wave match puzzle, resources will be awarded in 3-5 (usually) increments. I have found that all resource types obtained through this manor can be sold for 10k credits each. Also look at other objects in your inventory that could have worth and search for them on the exchange. The more credits you make the better. I have seen some guides that let Klingon characters make around 600k credits/hour, but I have not tried it as I am playing as the Federation.

Finally, dont forget to get your free datachip by completing the History 101/102 quests daily. Even if you dont get the chip you need, you can sell it to someone else who needs it.

This is the longest achievement in the game. It's not hard, its just random and requires a lot of time.

The Path to 2409 is a series of Lore Accolades that you earn by using a specific "Path of 2409" item called a Datachip on a character. There are 165 different accolades to collect. The achievement pops when you have collected all of them.

To gain the Path of 2409 Datachip your character will need to be level 10 before they can start the mission that gains the item. You will need to go to Starfleet Academy for Federation alligned characters or the Klingon Academy for Klingon alligned. At Starfleet Academy you are looking for Commander Viala. She is located in the only other building that can be entered outside the main cafeteria. For Klingons they are looking for Loresinger Ch'toh. He is located standing next to a rock in the middle of the outside area.

When you have a character talk to the respective contacts they will accept a mission called History 101: Alpha Quadrant from 2380 (Federation) or Learning the Lore of the Empire (Klingon). When you accept the mission you will need to interact with a computer console that is near by and you will gain a Datachip. Use the Datachip on the character and you will unlock the accolade for that Datachip. This mission has a 20 hour cool down, so you can effectively do it once per day. You will eventually start earning Datachips you have already learned. You can not use a Datachip that you have already earned the accolade for. Those you can sell on the Exchange or trade with other players.

To earn the achievement you have to learn all the Accolades on one character. This means that you need to consolidate all of your Datachips. For most characters on your account you can place the Datachip in the Account wide bank and pick it up on your main character. By default there is only 1 Account wide bank slot. If you choose to purchase more account wide bank slots that makes this easier, but its not necessary. Instead you can mail the Datachips to yourself. Have your character go to a Mail console and click Compose type @your gamertag in the To fillbox. At the bottom of the message there are 5 item slots. You can fill those with the Datachips you want to move to your main character. To retrieve the items you have to have your main character go to a Mail console and remove the items.

The more characters you have at level 10 the faster you will earn this. You can make a bunch of Dominion characters to start at level 60. They can not use the Account wide bank until level 62, but they can mail the Datachips to your main character.

You will most likely earn these in a mixture of the items from the daily mission and buying them off the Exchange. In the Exchange you can search "Datachip" with "only usable items" selected and it will only pull up Datachips you have not already learned. This is really helpful when you get down to only needing a few.

This isn't really a "solution," but rather a tip to get this done way faster. Set up 4 extra characters and pick up a datachip with each one. Then mail them in game to yourself, and pick them up with your main character. Then you get 5 per day instead of one!

The fastest way I've found of getting additional data chips (without buying them from the market) is to fill your available character slots with Jem'Hadar characters. The "tutorial" for them is 2 easy and fairly short missions (running around on a planet, then flying around in space, then big battle in a different part of space) and since you start at level 60 you can pick either faction and immediately get access to their data chip daily mission. I recommend picking Federation as the computer for the data chip is right next to the mission giver, as opposed to Klingon which makes you run into the building a bit away from the mission giver.

To obtain it, you need to obtain and use all 165 data chips about Klingon or Federated history. All “stories” must be collected (used) on one character. You can buy these chips on the market, or get them for free if you play as the Federation or the Klingons.

You can track your progress through the Lore Accolades section. Available from the mission menu (Missions > Mission Journal > Accolades > Lore Accolades), please note that in order for the bookmark to appear in the list, at least one data chip must be used on the character.

For the Federation, you need to complete character training and reach level 4. After which you can go to Commander Viala at Starfleet Academy, from her you need to take the task “History 101: Alpha Quadrant from 2380”. To perform it, you just need to use the terminal that stands next to it. For the Klingon Empire, you need to complete character training and reach level 10. Then send him to The Klingon Academy, find Ch'toh there and take the quest “The Lore of the Empire” from him. Then get the chip from the terminal which is located in another part of the building. Both tasks can be repeated once every 20 hours. So it will take at least 165 days to collect all the chips, but this is not certain, the chips can be repeated.

Viala and Ch'toh also have "History 102: Alpha Quadrant Midterm" and "Learning the Lore of the Empire" assignments, respectively. In these tasks you need to correctly answer history questions; the chips from the first tasks are clues for the second. These tasks are not required to obtain trophies, since they do not give out chips, only experience and some dilithium ore.

You can speed up the collection of chips by making several characters. On the basic version of the game, three characters can be created out of the box. The easiest way to create a Jem'Hadar character is from the Dominion faction. He has only two training missions, one on earth and one in space, after which you can immediately choose the Federation or the Klingon Empire. I recommend choosing the Federation, because as mentioned above, the answer terminal is located next to the character who issues the task, Klingen has it, in another part of the building and you need to run to it. This way you can speed up getting the trophy several times.

The trophy is long, but not difficult. For the trophy, you must obtain 165 data chips by answering questions on tests on Klingon or Federated history. The quest is repeated daily, every 20 hours, the questions are always different. Accordingly, it will take at least 165 days to fulfill the conditions of the trophy. In this case, chips can be duplicated, i.e. For completing a quest, you can receive the same chip several times, which is why the time required to complete the trophy conditions is extended. On the other hand, you can buy missing chips and sell your extra (duplicates) to other players through the Exchange terminal.
If you are playing for the Federation, quests can be obtained from Commander Viala at Starfleet Academy, the quest is called "History 101: Alpha Quadrant from 2380". If you are playing as the Klingon Empire, quests can be obtained from Ch'toh at The Klingon Academy, the quest is called "Learning the Lore of the Empire".
Since it is highly undesirable to make mistakes when answering test questions, see the correct answers at the link
https://sto.gamepedia.com/Lore
We look for the required section (there are 29 of them in total), then a chapter (there are several of them in each section, from 3 to 9). Each chapter has the correct answer item. A little patience - and the trophy will fall))
Progress on the received chips can be viewed in the game in the Missions tab....here is the path Missions > Mission Journal > Accolades >Lore Accolades
