How to unlock the You came, you looked around, you bought achievement in STAR WARS Episode I Racer - Definitive Guide

The best upgrade parts are:
Traction - R-600 Repulsorgrip
Turning - Control Stabilizer
Accelerate - MAG-6 Injector
Top Speed - Block6 Thrust Coil
Air Brake - Quadrijet Air Brake
Cooling - Turbo Coolant Pump
Repair - Cluster2 Power Plug

A couple quick tips to save up enough money, cause some of the parts are pricey:

1) Set the stakes at winner take all. You're probably going to win the races somewhat easily, especially the early ones, so you may as well get paid extra for it.

2) Invest in all 3 pit droids ASAP. This will help ensure you don't have to replace broken parts very often, thus saving money in the long term.

3) Use and abuse the Junkyard. You get often better or comparable parts to what you have for less money, and they'll easily be repaired, especially in the amateur and semi-pro circuits. And sometimes you can even get money back while getting a "worse" or more damaged part.

Personally, I found that the best parts are more likely to appear in the Junkyard, so always be sure to look in both places!

Edit:
If you've already beaten all the races, you can make more money by buying worse/degraded parts that what you have, though that may be a long process.

It may be faster to start a second racer profile, and just burn through early races quickly to save up. However, upgrades don't transfer from profile to profile.

Further to the above, to reset the ‘upgrades’ in the junkyard, go back to the Pod selection screen, reselect your Pod, and go back in to the junkyard.

Also the quality of the best upgrades listed above don’t have any effect on the achievement. Simply having all 7, in any condition, will be enough to unlock it.

How do I make more money if I have all ready beaten all the races

Do the upgrades work across all racers or would you have to buy them everytime for each individual racer?

Upgrades work across all racers, however each character/pod has advantages/disadvantages. Bullseye Navior, Neva Kee, Wan Sandage are among the best while Aldar Beedo, Elan Mak, Gasgano, even Sebulba are among the worst

If you've already beaten all the races, the only legit way to really make more money is to buy worse/degraded parts that what you have, in order to make some money, though that may be a long process.

It may be faster to start a second racer profile, and just burn through early races quickly to save up. However, upgrades don't transfer from profile to profile.

Should edit that if you are missing any certain part, it may be worth it to keep backing out to the select player screen where you type a name in and go back in and check the junkyard as items rotate each time you back out. Had to do this three times till the part came up for purchase.

I’ve actually got a fully upgraded car using the brilliant guide above, which I’m not disputing the accuracy of, and the achievement didn’t pop. Crazy times! Has anyone else had this?

Ah scrap that!! The Top Speed enhancement is a bit confusing because the best two or three parts don’t visually impact your vehicle statistics. Just double-check it’s the Block6.

I beat the game and all the other Achievements so I started a second racer, found it it would be quicker than playing with the junk RNG. Thanks :) EDIT : Actually, people should focus on this Achievement first as AFAIK it's the only missable one.

i've bought them. i don't have them all on my pod racer right now, but each of the have been bought at one point. starting to think this won't cut it. made the mistake of not having winner takes all from the get-go.

Cluster2 Power Plug is better than Rotary Power Plug. I was assuming I just needed brand new/fully repaired parts. Nope. Even though it's just a mirrored model, and not a unique model, Rotary Power Plug isn't the one you need.

Thank you. I thought I should mention that I thought I had all of the upgrades on the list and was trying to figure out why it hadn't unlocked. I eventually realized it was because I had Block5 Thrust Coil but it looked like it said 6 and the meter looked full.

@Luke444k, I'm late to this party, but people are using cheats to unlock achievements faster. Races can be won in 20 seconds or less.

Another avenue that hasn't been mentioned is switching between racers who have better stats - I'm not entirely sure it helped but I just went into the shop and junkyard with each so the upgrades weren't worth as much if it didn't improve stats as much/at all.

Kept switching racers and parts until I had the top ones on each part.

Thanks for the help in the other guides!

Ok, guys, let me explain something here. To get this achievement you need the follow parts:

The best upgrade parts are:
Traction - R-600 Repulsorgrip
Turning - Control Stabilizer
Accelerate - MAG-6 Injector
Top Speed - Block6 Thrust Coil
Air Brake - Quadrijet Air Brake
Cooling - Turbo Coolant Pump
Repair - Cluster2 Power Plug

If you beat the game and don't have money to buy all these parts just go back to the main menu, enter in a race and select junkyard. Try to buy these exactly parts. You don't need to have in perfect conditions, just have it all. Try to sell some of you invetory, go back to the main menu to reset junkyard, select a race and try to find what you need in the junkyard.

@GodspeedLemons7 Same on my side. I have bought everything several times, but I have not equipped at the same time, and the achievement will not fall. I did not see either that we could put all the money on player 1...

There I recreated a part, I redid the first 7 races in 30 min. But the 1000G is not 1H / 2H on this game, you have to stop guys. It's 4 or 5 minimum. Unless there is a plethora of racing champions on this site, when I see 127 votes for 1 hour or 2 hours on the averages. I'm already at 6 hours, yet I'm not a noub in the racing game. I wanted to fold it up quickly before going to sleep... I have to get back to it tomorrow :/

I really don't understand how this works. I did all the legitimate achievements except this one because I realized that in the end, I couldn't get any more money. After that, I learned the junkyard trick and now I have all the best upgrades on my pod. I bought almost all of them from the junkyard but many of them don't have a full green bar. What I don't understand is the repair. I have read that the repair is automatic after a run and that the droids can only repair one part after another, but that doesn't seem to work. I have run the second run of the easy lap several times and have not noticed any progress in the condition of my upgrades. Now I'm stuck and I really don't know what to do. Can you explain to me how this works? Do I have to run again and again to get the upgrades fixed? Do I have to go around the junkyard again to save enough money to buy the upgrades in the store instead? Please explain to me if you know how to fix this.

If like me, you've just read the other guides posted here and realised that you have spent most your winnings and do not have the requested parts. There may yet be hope. You can't get anymore money from races btw, but you wont need it.

Firstly the chievo should read have all the best upgrades installed. This is important.

Next Junk yard is your friend here. Learn what the items are below and be able to spot them easily;

Traction - R-600 Repulsorgrip
Turning - Control Stabilizer
Accelerate - MAG-6 Injector
Top Speed - Block6 Thrust Coil
Air Brake - Quadrijet Air Brake
Cooling - Turbo Coolant Pump
Repair - Cluster2 Power Plug

To reset the junkyard you can race, or as I did, back out to the title screen then go straight back into you save file and go for the first race that appears, but we wont be racing just heading for the pre-race Junk Yard option

Next look for one for these 'best upgrade' items in the Junkyard, if it is one you already own like a Block6 Thrust Coil for example. See if the trade purchase value is in minus ie -2390. If so buy it, banking the extra cash. There are little green vertical bars that show an items quality. Keep doing this so that the quality of your 'Best Upgrades' diminish but regardless you have them installed on your racer

When you spot an item on the list that you need and you can afford it, buy it. After 5-10 minutes of reducing the quality of my gear, banking the money difference and looking for parts I needed, I finally had enough to just buy the last part from the actual shop.

Hope this works for anyone at the end wondering if they need to play again.

This worked for me.

Since you cannot earn any more money once you beat every circuit, what you have to do is reset the Junkyard logging into your game profile and going back to the title screen. Just buy the same parts you already have in your ship but at a worse condition than the ones you already have so you make money from the transaction. It's boring, stupid and counter-intuitive... but the method works.

The easiest way to make quick money early is to take advantage of the junkyard trick/exploit.

To do this you need to buy ONE repair droid only(best to buy it first before any upgrades). Then only buy ONE part in the junkyard for any type that you can afford or do another race for a bit more money. Make note of the type of part you bought Traction, Airbrake etc. then do a race that part will be repaired fully after the race.

Go to Buy Parts in the menu after that race you’re going to “sell” that part type back to Watto at the counter. So the type of upgrade you bought in the junkyard look for them at the counter and buy the worst upgrade for that type and profit! You’ll get the Truguts back and the repaired % difference in profit from what you originally bought the part for in the junkyard. The more damaged a part the more Republic Credits Truguts you get from the “sell”.

You can only do this once a race with only one part so make sure you buy the most expensive/damaged part the junkyard has you can afford (you can reset the junkyard parts by backing out to the pod/vehicle selection menu and going back to the junkyard) then do the next race.

Repeat this with every race until you’re satisfied with how much you have. 60-70k is more then enough for the cheevo.

Traction: R-600 Repulsogrip
Turning: Control Stabilizer
Acceleration: Mag-6 injector
Top Speed: Block6 Thrust Coil
Airbrake: Quadrijet Air Brake
Cooling: Turbo Coolant Pump
Repair: Cluster2 Power Plug

Just buy another part in the same slot. It automatically sells the part you have equipped in that slot. On the right side, you can see the value of your current part, and right under that, the difference in price between your part, and the one you'd be replacing it with. If the number has a - in front of it, and it's the same part, you can gain money with very little performance loss.

Good tips, I was fully repairing more than 4 parts after each race. All upgrades by the end of amateur circuits. Thank you all.

If (like me) you finished every race in 1st Place without selecting “Winner Takes All”, you will be left short of money to buy all the upgrades from Watto’s shop. Fortunately, you can still get them from the junk yard.

First, sell everything you already have in the shop. You can do this by selecting the lowest spec part for each category in the junk shop.

Open the junk yard and browse the selection. Purchase any of the upgrades required that appear. If you back out to character select, the junk yard stock will rotate and you can browse a fresh selection of goods. Keep coming back and you’ll find everything you need eventually. I recommend buying parts in the lowest possible condition you can, as it’ll cost much less (don’t worry, poor condition parts still count for the trophy).

The parts you’re looking for are:

R-600 Repulsorgrip
Control Stabiliser
Mag-6 Injector
Block 6 Thrust Coil
Quadrijet Air Brake
Turbo Cooling Pump
Cluster 2 Power Plug

Hope this helps!
