How to unlock the One Giant Leap achievement in Starfield - Definitive Guide

This is an unmissable achievement for completing the last main story mission.

This is a point of no return mission that starts New Game +. The game does not blatantly warn you so make sure you have a backup save if you wanted to work on anything else. All game progress is reset with the exception of your level and skills already unlocked.

Just ran into a bug where you are forced to switch your ship after building the armillary. This forces you to the Unity when you switch back to your previous ship.
In order to avoid this I took apart the armillary in my ship. Now I cant rebuild the armillary in an outpost nor in my ship. I cant jump to any other system because I am stuck in the use a.grav jump to get to the Unity. Major game breaking bug that appears to happen to a lot of people.

Presumably the name of the last mission is One Giant Leap?

FYI though, from what i'm reading; the game gives you a choice if you want to go towards NG+ land or stick with your current career. You also have the choice to go toward NG+ land at any point. But yeah making back-up saves per playthrough would be wise.

Yeah I wasn't sure on the decision. I really only added this because I had a friend with no back up save "beat" the game to knock that out and lost all his space exploration/outpost progress etc so figured at least try and warn people!

That’s terrible. Can anyone please confirm if you can step through the unity, get the achievement and then load up a previous save file?
The game has a lot of save files that one can fill, so it shouldn’t be a big issue. I’m just a little worried it wouldn’t let you do that and all the progress would be gone.🙏🏻

@WhyattThrash: Thank you for the clarification. That bothered me quite a bit. I believe I saw somewhere that you can deactivate the Autosaves as well, so the game doesn't fill up your save spots every 5 secs.

Just a heads up I have just got to this mission today and the achievement has glitched and it won't unlock for me I've tried a few different things ie going back on an old save, restarting the game and it still won't unlock.

- All of your saves stay so you can load into any moment pre- or post-unity at will.
- You can do the mission, choose not to go to NG+, and then choose to go for it at any time to get the achievement, you'll never become locked out from getting it.
- Your auto saves stay so you'd have to keep playing on NG+ for a good while to reach a point where you couldn't go back if you wanted to.

After completing “Entangled” and “Final Glimpses,” you’ll then be on the home straight. All that’s left are two main quests:
  • Revelation
  • One Giant Leap
“Revelation” is the big final mission, while “One Giant Leap” is the cutscene finale, effectively. AKA Decision time. Simply complete “One Giant Leap” and this achievement is yours, regardless of what you decide.

It is worth noting, though, that one choice in “One Giant Leap” will send you back into the universe you’re in, while the other, does not. So, get everything you want to get done before this point, or prepare a save beforehand, so you can get back to what you were doing regardless of your choice (which is exactly what we did).
