How to unlock the Rook Meets King achievement in Starfield - Definitive Guide

The fastest way to join is during the 2nd main quest The Old Neighborhood, when you talk to Commander John Tuala, the UC vanguard faction mission“Supra Et Ultra” will show up, after finished it and the follow one “Grunt Work”,Crimson Fleet faction mission "Deep Cover" will automatically start, finished it and the follow one "Rook Meets King" you will get the achievement.

But if you chose NOT to do “Supra Et Ultra”, you also have the chance to join the Crimson Fleet, after the main quest "No Sudden Moves",you will receive a 500 UC bounty and get caught when entering Alpha Centauri (un less you directly landing on planet),Crimson Fleet faction mission "Deep Cover" will automatically start afterr you surrender. No matter you chose join or not, the faction mission seem to be sustainable.

I'm guessing this can trigger after gaining any bounty - the questline started for me the very first time I got one (for pressing the wrong button and accidentally hitting a NPC in the back, which seemed to instantly make me the most vile criminal in the universe!). Went to pay off my bounty assuming it'd be a quick button press but then with no other choice I got tied into this quest instead. NB This happened before I joined the Vanguard.

I think it's once you go to the Lodge and join Constellation that any bounty you get (at least in New Atlantis) will take you to begin this questline

I did this quest and the achievement did not pop. I'm almost done the quest line for the fleet and have gotten all the other achievements along the way.

Thanks No Pulse 🙏🏻 That’s a whole Nightmare. Bethesda can’t be serious about this. That’s even worse than the Giant Leap achievement where we have to start a new game +. As if they don’t want you to get it all in one play through and force you through another. Terrible.
I heard though that there might be a loophole: I read somewhere that you can infiltrate the fleet for the UC Vanguard. I don’t know if that would make it any better since you still have to commit crimes as a pirate🤷🏼‍♂️ can anyone confirm or deny that?
And how would that even impact my relationships? I put a lot of work into marrying Sarah. I can’t imagine she would ignore that since she’s an idealist like me (real life me). Do I need to get a divorce to get a few stupid achievements,Bethesda? What a mess😡

Lmao. Just don't take Sarah with you. leave her on the ship and she won't react to anything you do. And no, you don't have to force yourself to murder or anything. You can join the pirates undercover for the UC. Your idealist views won't be hurt by the game or questline and none of the achievements are missable.

So... does anyone know if we didn't do this first time around, then now done NG+ and skipped the main quest, how we join Crimson Fleet without either of these main quests being available?? (other than NG+ again and this time pick "replay main quest")

Burke, you should be able to do all the faction quests over again in NG+. Even if you skip the main quest. For this one either join UC Vanguard and they'll offer to go undercover, or get arrested / tossed in jail and they should offer you this questline but they'll be dicks about it.

It's helpful to know that in NG+, players can still engage with faction quests, even if they choose to skip the main quest. Your suggestion to either join the UC Vanguard or, if arrested, engage with the Crimson Fleet questline provides spacebar clicker players with different options to explore the storyline.

If people are having glitches with crimson missions, consider this….. I got caught stealing a stupid item and had a 1 credit bounty. Had to get arrested to try n clear it. Turns out they want my to go undercover with the crimson. Now, I’ve only completed the mission that gets me Sarah. From my readings, it’s my way into crimson. Not sure yet, though if that allows me to join n do the crimson related achievements/ story line. I’m still clarifying but good for thought in case it is a workaround for the bug that I have heard about.

Just a question, are we allowed/supposed to actually join all the factions?? Or does one have to pick & choose? It seems a bit weird to me since some of them are criminals and/or enemies to each other?? I just don't want to mess things up. Thanks for anyone who can clarify this.

Yes, you can join every major faction in Starfield within minutes of each other if you want to. There’s no penalty for joining any or all of them, and except in some cases, your actions for one faction won’t have any effect on how the others view you — at least for a while.

Things get a bit trickier later in each faction quest line, especially the Vanguard and Crimson Fleet quests. The Vanguard wants to eradicate the Fleet, which is, naturally, not going to sit well with the Fleet if you’re working with them. Make sure to juggle multiple save files if you want to see them all through.

Warning: there is a pretty nasty game breaking bug with this quest line that I haven't seen much discussion about outside of a few reddit comments. MAKE SURE you hard save before returning to Adler after getting the money from Karl. 2-3 versions of this bug can happen, 1) the Rook Meets King quest won't trigger at all 2) It will Trigger and the Astraea ship orbiting Europa won't let you dock or hail or 3) The ship will not appear at all

If this happens, you can not join the crimson fleet or access any of this part of the game. There is currently no work around or fix for this (don't waste your time flying around the ship for 30 minutes like me thinking you're doing something wrong), so you have to reload a save (in my case, I had to go back 6-7 hours)

#1 has happened to me. I'm now 75 hours in and close to NG+ so I'll get it the second time around I guess.

The Crimson Fleet is a space pirate outfit, and they wear funky red armour, so who wouldn’t want to join them? There are several ways to enroll. You can infiltrate their ranks as an undercover operative for the UC Vanguard, or you can make a few shadowy contacts on Cydonia, and work your way up by doing odd jobs.

For all the different ways to join the Crimson Fleet faction, check out our Starfield How to join the Crimson Fleet faction guide. This will be 1 of 3 Crimson Fleet faction achievements you’ll earn along the way. If you’re interested in what other missions you need to do to complete this faction, check out Legacy's End (30G) guide entry.
