How to unlock the Can't Cat-ch Me achievement in Stray - Definitive Guide

This is the toughest trophy in the game and will likely frustrate you before you manage to unlock it. Avoid all Zurks chasing you in Chapter 2 (you will see the cn_B prompt if one latches onto you). If you get caught, wait for the others to find you and die until you unlock No More Lives. After that, you can pause and restart the checkpoint if you choose.

It took at least 50 tries for me to clear this the first time and another dozen for the second (not required).

Finally got this last night, probably somewhere between 40 and 50 attempts I'd say. I found changing direction severely at the crunch points usually helped, but was still a bit down to luck. At the very last section before the staircase, stay to the left hand side until the Zurks come from the opening on that left side and cut across to the far right side of the staircase, before zig-zagging up the stair in case there are some rogue jumpers that catch you at the death.

Go to settings, controls, Rebind. Set Forward to RB and left and right to the D-Pad. Now you won't lose momentum while weaving and your weave is easier to control. Much easier and not half as infuriating.

Best advice if you mess up, keep going to practice, then reload before the window jump.

I would rather recommend mapping sprint and forward on LT and RT, you will push it constantly anyways, and in my opinion its easier to hold the controller like that.
I used the left stick for left and right turns, was quite easy this way.

103 attempts for me so far and I still don’t have it. Worst of all, on attempt 13 I was halfway up the final staircase when a zurk got me. :(

Only got past the split once since then, and that was 70+ tries ago.

Maybe they toned the difficulty of this one down because I got it on my 3rd try, seemed pretty easy

Finally got it after at least 20 tries. Seems like there were a few times where the game started to figure out the route I was taking and I got hit earlier and earlier until I finally made it through.

Got this at last, 34 days after finishing everything else in this game. Did it on today’s first try while also listening to a podcast. Maybe the partial distraction helped by making me calmer, but it’s probably just a coincidence.

I stopped counting after 113 but have only had two ‘sessions’ at this since, and as they consisted of about 25 and 10 attempts each I would say this took me just shy of 150 attempts in total. As I said above though, I all but did it on attempt #13 so there’s no reason it should take this long for most people.

The only thing I was aware of doing slightly differently over the last few attempts was to zig-zag *less*, i.e. continue to hold one direction to dodge each set of zurks rather than quickly alternate back and forth. There were a few exceptions to this such as approaching the first indoor section and if a leaping zurk suddenly appeared behind me.

Holy shit. I was losing my mind over this yesterday, trying to zig zag as much as possible etc.

Tried it this morning, did it first attempt!

What was different?

Well, I didn't zig zag too much, tried to stay in a straight line and move at the last minute. I could remember where the zurks jumped out from but wasn't afraid to go between them when there was a gap.

No different controller set up or tweaks other than having my sensitivity turned all the way up

If playing on PC, turn all graphics settings to LOW and there will be less junk on the floor to slow you down... STILL very frustrating, but less chance to get stuck in a plastic crate!

EDIT: Also recommend ChemicalEmotion's tip in comments for the other solution, to rebind Forward to RB and left and right to the D-Pad, to maintain momentum when weaving.

I recommend switching your sprint to toggle as mentioned in another guide. Makes one less button to mash. While I did change my Forward button to something else, I kept Left and Right to the joystick and had no issues. (If you have a controller with paddles, I suggest using one of those for Forward). Took me about 20ish tries this way.

Also, there does seem to be different timing for the Zurks. The groups always come from the same spots, but sometimes they have barely appeared, or they will already be there and halfway to you compared to where you might have seen them in another run. I believe this is the reason that each run can feel so different. This appears to happen at random, so some runs will feels easier than others.

Hello everyone. Here is something I noticed on my run for this achievement: the Zurks seem unable to attach to you if you are moving left or right. This is the only way I was able to avoid them. And even if I ran directly into one, it wouldn't attach as long as I wasn't running straight forward. So try to keep the little kitty on an angle at all times, and this should help immensely.

For me it was easier when i was close to the wall. For some reason the zurks often don't jump and i only used the zig-zag run when they tried to jump.

On PS5 and XSX it honestly isn't too bad. One of the most overrated achievements/trophies in terms of difficulty. Both OG on PlayStation and replaying on Xbox 12 months later, it was fine.

The only points you're likely to struggle are the linear corridors where they spawn in front of you. For the first (0:26), just hug the left wall and they'll avoid you. For the 2nd (0:41) follow the video, zig zapping helps here. At the fork, take the left whilst zig zagging - I disagree with the video at this point, it's much more likely you'll get jumped trying to get to the right fork, even its the more "straight ahead" path.

Took ~8-10 tries on a replay, about ~15 on PS5.

30 tries. Zig zagging is about all you can do as it is a lot luck based. I did notice in certain tight quarters it is best to go directly at the zurks rather than go along the wall away from them. Sometimes you can go right through the pack and get lucky. Others, they get you. Just keep trying until you get it and don't get too frustrated as it's 80% out of your control.

I used this video to get a grasp of the route, especially in the end. It took me a long time, all credit to "Gaming with Abyss" for the video:

A suggestion: use the "toggle sprint" in config, it makes things more comfortable.

I've read that this is easier on PS4 than PS5. I wonder if the same is true for Xbox One vs Xbox Series S/X.

I have to agree this one is 100% luck and 0% pattern recognition. Even the video is not 100% helpful because of the randomness of how many spawn in each batch, which direction they jump and when, and which ones have the accuracy of an aimbot using PC player in Battlefield 2042 negates any pattern recognition. The best hope is to just keep dodging left and right and hope for the best.

The game is still 10/10 though, a stupid achievement does not negate how awesome the actual game is.

Downvoted as the video is a lie. at 2:30 it says stay right. The Zurks get me every time when I stay right. This section is pure luck zig zag through don't get close to the wall they bounce off the wall onto you.

At 2:37 it says go left. Again a lie, going left puts you right into a Zurk every time.

The video used is just pure 100% luck.

I have to agree with y'all, it worked for me, but those tips did get me further and further in the chase, though it's still very luck dependent. Zigzagging when you're near the zurks make them launch towards a now empty area though.

I did this on my 2nd attempt and used the method of weaving very tightly to the left and right when enemies jump out that are close to you. It almost seems like it makes them overshoot when they jump to grab you. Just a tip, seemed to work for me. I did record my run to show. I am happy to upload if necessary.

EDIT: Link to my recording. It does cut the beginning some but you at least get the idea of me weaving.

TuKraZe playing Stray

Tip: Don’t be afraid to get close to the Zurks at times. I found that by getting close to them and then weaving away very quickly after, they miss being able to jump on you. You’ll even notice I run straight through some of them at 00:16 because these were the ones that grabbed me on my first attempt. I’m not say just always run towards them, but the ones in tighter areas like at 00:27, you’ll notice I kinda weave towards them and they jump to the left and miss me because I weaved to my right. It’s just a technique I found and I’d say is worth trying to take on and use for your runs. I hope this helps someone at least.

I have never had a single achievement nearly and utterly destroy my love of a game as badly as this did. Took me longer to get this rat turd of a cheevo than the speed run with all the random upon random spawns, -jump, -timings, -autoaims, and -auto locks. You don't feel good unlocking this because it's all luck, you don't even feel good in a lucky sense. You just want to delete it from your HD and forget the game ever existed.. I went from 10/10, singing the praises of this indie game to anyone who'd listen, to honestly not feeling comfortable recommending at all unless I know the person doesn't care at all about getting all achievements. Ugh.

Run as fast as you can and if you get caught pause the game and select to retry from the last checkpoint.

You will probably need a few tries to memorize the way, there are some sharp turns and tight corners and it is good to know where the little critters come from beforehand.

In general, do NOT run in a straight line. Always zig zag a bit, tilting your stick from left to right. They can not a at you correctly if you do that.
If you come across a spot where the zurks always seem to get you when you tilt one direction, try the other direction in that spot.

The entire track takes about 1 minute to complete. This is probably the hardest trophy in the entire game.

The always zig zag is the secret. I noticed that the buggers don't grab you even if they hit you when you're zig-zagging. Don't know if it's a bug or just luck on my part, but it worked for me at my third attempt overall.

This trophy was so BS. I refuse to believe the TT ratio is that low. My advice is to do frequent, small, and sharp angle zig-zags toward the second half of the course. Even so, about 80% of this is luck based

This game has been a great experience attempting to go for the platinum, but the fact that game devs are putting in Trophies that rely 100% on luck, and that skill has nothing to do with it whatsoever, is just disgusting. When are companies going to learn that making Trophies hard just for the hell of it is just further spreading bad discussions around the title.

But this is not just luck, it is skill or rather getting a feel for it and learning where the zurks are. Just keep trying. I said this is the hardest trophy in the game but it didn't even take an hour for me and I am not a great gamer by any means. With every attempt you get a better feel for how to zig zag and in which spot you need to tilt in a specific direction. The zurks do not appear at random spots so it is all learnable.

Keep trying!

@roja_85 YOU ARE MY HERO! After so much effort I found your comment, and decided to give it a try. Managed to beat it within 5 minutes of rebinding the controls.

You are right, this becomes so much easier when you do not need to worry about anything except dodging left and right!

I had most trouble with the first steps going up (after around 27 seconds). I was able to do it consistently by stopping moving for a second or two just after the previous group of zurks, allowing the steps group to start moving down. I found them much easier to dodge (on the right side) when I could see them. Here's a video of it:

Very difficult trophy, took me about an hour of trying to get it. I think the reason it feels random is that depending on the line you take, the Zurks might appear a fraction earlier/later on each run. I found on some runs there might be a place where they wouldn't even jump at me, presumably because I took an ever so slightly more direct route and was further ahead than I was previously.
Main thing that helped me was rebinding Forward to X and Run to Square buttons, so I could just concentrate on doing left/right on the stick and not have to hold forward on the stick too.
If you do rebind controls, make sure you have bound a button to Jump!!
First time I managed to complete it I couldn't exit the sequence because I hadn't bound a button for jump, and got caught by the Zurks before I realised what I'd done. Then it took me another half hour to get a clean run again.

Ahh, the first real encounter with these little buggers. This trophy is quite annoying, with no real guidance on how to beat it. Just luck, with a hint of skill.

Get ready to run!Get ready to run!

Run at full pelt and dodge these little critters as best you can! If you get caught you can reload the checkpoint or let the Zurk's kill you and try again. I recommend restarting just to be safe. It may take a few tries but eventually, you will understand the pattern and where the Zurk's come from, giving you a slight advantage. With enough perseverance, you should eventually snag this little gold trophy!

This took me... at least 2-2.5 hours to get, I watched so many videos, read so many guides and nearly gave up.

So firstly, rumor has it that if you get caught by a Zurk, let yourself die, apparently the more you die, the dumber the AI become (no proof, just something I read and I was desperate for any bit of help)

Secondly, once you get to know the layout and the best route to take, you're gonna hit the alley.. (YES! THAT ALLEY), this alley will give me nightmares for months to come because it's so RNG how the Zurks will react, after many attempts I found my most successful route past them was to bait the Zurks by going left and quickly switching to the right, others have found hugging the wall and zig / zagging to work, but for me it was the ol' bait and switch.

Once you manage to get past the alleyway, you're nearly home free, I'd recommend a video guide for this part as you can bypass some Zurks by hugging the right wall and they won't be so much an issue.

This is really a frustrating achievement and tbh a bit of a stain on an otherwise amazing game.
But as close as I was to giving up, I took a break and came back and got it.

Good Luck!

The point about the Zurks getting dumber was wrong. They don't. I was letting the cat die out of frustration, and on every attempt other than my last one, they kept successfully predicting where I was gonna run. They were all-knowing and all-seeing. They literally knew my moves before I did.

Yikes! This one is actually pretty tricky and one of the hardest in the game. By far. When you’re in the Dead City, after dropping the paint can through the pane of glass and continuing a wee while, a short distance later you’ll be dropped into the game’s first chase sequence with the Zurks - who basically look like the headcrabs from Half Life 2. To get through this sequence and get the trophy you’ll have to get through the section without any of them attaching themselves to you (i.e. when it says press circle.png to remove them), which is actually incredibly tricky.

There is a knack to it though and here’s some tips to get you through it:
  • The biggest tip I can give you is to weave like you’ve never weaved before. You’ll want to combine short and long weaves.
  • Also, take a wide berth when it comes to the big packs of them. Still, weaving in and out.
  • And finally, learn the layout of the chase sequence. For instance, when to keep right and when to keep left, and when to weave.
Those are general tips, here’s some course tips:
  • On the first set of stairs up, stay left and then at the top pull right slightly and then proceed to bob and weave.
  • Same with the second set of stairs, but instead, when you get to the top step, pull right more sharply.
  • After the long alley with the coffee shop flashing arrow sign, pull a sharp left towards the bin out of sight and then continue to weave.
  • In the open-ish area after that section, excessive weaving is required here.
And that’s it, after that last bit you’re on the home straight. You will not do this first time, as you’ll need to work out a few corners and what not, but it is doable with some perseverance. And if you get caught, which you absolutely will once or twice, just hit restart checkpoint and try again.

Want to see how we did it? Here’s how. Good luck!
