How to unlock the EX-ceptional achievement in Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online Edition - Definitive Guide

If you're lacking the EX attack counts in Arcade or Ranked online play, try this.

1) Go to Help & Options > Settings > Dip Switches
2) RT to page 3/5, set "EX Move Energy Requirement" to "1"
3) Start a local match with a second controller
4) EX moves are now free. Grind away with Ryu's EX Hadouken. (quarter-circle-forward + LB)

*NOTE #1: Local and Player matches have their own counter separate from Arcade or Ranked matches.

**NOTE #2: Local matches are an easy way to get "EX-ceptional", "Big Finish", "Wax On, Wax Off", and "Sticks and Stones". Don't bother with "Super Artist" in this mode (unless you're really stuck) because it is time consuming.

EX-moves are similar to special moves only they're slightly enhanced versions. Normally they cost a portion of the special meter, however by tweaking some settings that will change. Go in to settings from the help and options section, then go to he dipswitches. Move on over to page 3/5 (Press R2 twice) and you'll see a list of things you can change. Adjust the Ex move energy requirement to 1 (which oddly enough makes it 0) and you can fire an infinite number of EX-special moves while playing in arcade or local versus matches.

Take your pick from the two and pick Ryu or Ken, then simply do a quarter circle forward paired with L1 and your character will flash and it will do two hits. If you're playing as Ryu, it will be a Red Hadouken. Simply fire these 75 times and you'll have your trophy.

If you've done some in arcade mode and go to grind these in local versus, the counters WILL be different. Your best bet is to simply knock this out in versus from the start, or continue in arcade if you've already used a decent amount of them.

The challenge "EX-ceptional" is for performing x amount of EX Moves, the third tier of this challenge requires you to perform an overall total of 100 EX Moves.

EX moves are stronger variations of a characters Special Moves. To perform an EX move you must simply press 2 of the 3 Z1v8cGW.png or Q0JbjH3.png buttons at the same opposed to just the one. Here is an example of how to perform an EX move:
  • Hadouken: scaCehA.gifGDJsmya.gifLBjSTQ5.gif + Z1v8cGW.png
  • EX-Hadouken: scaCehA.gifGDJsmya.gifLBjSTQ5.gif +
To use an EX move you require at least half a bar of meter you will know when you used an EX move when you lost half a bar of meter and when your character flashes a quick yellow when the move comes out.

Utilizing EX Moves in Real Play:

EX moves can be used to link moves together that wouldn't normally link as well as serve as combo enders. EX moves are an excellent way of chipping out an opponent with little to no health left or just trying to get a Special Move out fast to punish if opponent whiffs an attack.

If you don't have a second controller and need to find a boosting partner to make this trophy easier please refer to the following thread: Trophy Boosting Thread
