You can't unlock this until you are in the industrial zone. There will be fire everywhere. You need to play a character that can use ranged weapons. I had monkey during this and couldn't get him. Once you find a fire extinguisher in the industrial level, I found one in a safe, equip it, find a fire and put it out. Do this 5 times and he will unlock. The fire traps count as well, just stand there and put it out 5 times. If in coop, once you unlock him, drop the weapon and let your friends do it also. I got thisneven easier than other guides posted, although they are good guides. I acquired a fire extinguisher during a level on Slums. Then I came across the floor vents that belch flames. All Indid was use the extinguisher on these vents 5 times and the achievement unlocked.

This can be done in the Slums as well. You'll need to unlock the fire extinguisher with the Treasure character in the Home Base (I think 7 Nuggets?). The once unlocked, find a mission with a reward of the Fire Extinguisher. Now that you have one, equip it and use it on the flaming barrels that are fairly common within the Slums. After doing this 5 times, the Firefighter is yours.

To unlock this character, you need to put out five barrel fires in a single run. Normally this would be extremely RNG, hoping that fire hydrants line up with these fires, but fortunately there is a guaranteed way to get this.
In Homebase, head to the REWARDS guy and buy the Fire Extinguisher. Now start a new run and make a customer character with the Fire Extinguisher item. Bump Speed up to 4/4 just to make it quicker. Load into the first level of Slums and run around looking for fire barrels. If you don't find five, end the run and start a new run with the same custom character. It only took me two tries to find a level with at least five barrels. Use the fire extinguisher to put out five fires and this character will unlock.
