How to unlock the Uptown achievement in Streets of Rogue - Definitive Guide

Requirements: Complete Downtown with 5 Non-Overpowered Characters
- You can do this with prebuilt characters or custom characters
- My choice after playing through the game once was to use custom characters all with the same build

Custom Character Build
Name: Any
Stats: Endurance: 4/4, Speed: 1/4, Melee: 1/4, Firearms: 4/4
Traits: Antisocial, Sucker, Blahd Basher, Bullet Breaker
Special Ability: None
Starting Items: Machinegun, Kill Healthenizer
- Machine Gun is the only requirement though I highly recommend Bullet Basher. Kill Healthenizer is just icing on the cake

Create four copies of the above custom character and then play through Downtown Zone with each (5-6 minutes a run).
After finishing the 5th run Elevator access for Uptown will be granted and achievement will pop

Mutators Used: Infinite Ammo, No Disasters, No Melee Weapons
- Infinite Ammo is the only requirement for this setup, the other two just make life easier

Video is of my 5th Downtown run to get the achievement

Prerequisite (For this setup)
Starting Items Unlocked: Machine Gun, Kill Healthenizer
Elevator Access Unlocked: Downtown
- Not needed but will make the process way faster

Each of these elevator achievements requires you to beat the previous floor with five different characters. For example, to unlock elevator access to Industrial (and unlock Industrial (15G)) you need to beat the Slums with five different characters. The elevator then allows you to skip directly to Industrial and bypass Slums. You can then clear Industrial with five different characters to unlock Park (15G) and the elevator directly to Park, and so on. They don't need to be done in order like that, but it's definitely easiest to do that way, since it drastically shortens each run, making each subsequent set shorter and easier.

Note that Custom Characters CAN be used for this, but they must NOT be Overpowered. What this means is that, when you create a custom character, you can allocate points into their stats, items, traits, etc. You have a set amount (20) you can allocate for them to stay a normal character, but the game will let you allocate as many as you want, if you want to make a really strong character. Going over that threshold, the game considers the character Overpowered and it won't count for these achievements (or any achievements, as the game warns you in red text when you do this). However, each custom character can still count as one of five for these achievements. As a result, you can continually make essentially the same custom charactor with the same stats to make this as easy as possible. Below is what you can do to make this as easy as possible. Couple this with the mutator toggling noted in the roadmap and the save exploit also noted in the roadmap, and this should be pretty manageable on each floor.

To create a custom character, go to the elevator to start a run, and at the character select screen, select one of the dark characters at the bottom to create a custom character in that slot. Here's what I did to make it easy to run through the game:

Stats:
Endurance - 4/4
Speed - 1/4
Melee - 1/4
Guns - 4/4

Abilities:
None

Traits: (none required, but this is most helpful)
Anti-Social (this is just to give negative points to offset the extra points you'd otherwise have)
Bullet Breaker (your bullets break enemy bullets being shot at you)
Bad Blahd (negative points to offset everything else)
Bad Crepe (same as above)

Items:
Machine Gun
Kill Healthenizer (not required, but extremely helpful)

It should go without saying, but you should already have the mutators turned on for Infinite Ammo and No Disasters (as well as Continue?). This means you'll essentially be playing like the Soldier - gun everyone down in your way. Ignore Big Quests and just do the objectives to open the elevator. You can make each custom character with this exact same setup. I had no problems running through the game five times in a row to unlock the elevators to every floor. If any level goes really wrong, use the save exploit in the roadmap to try again, worst case. Just keep in mind that leveling up gives you full health, so if a level up is on the horizon then the damage you took isn't a huge deal. Also, if you have Kill Healthenizer, killing anyone, even an innocent, gives you back some health.

Worst case, if you only make it through Slums, you'll at least unlock the elevator to Industrial. Then, use the same five custom characters to take the elevator right to Industrial and run through its three levels five times to unlock the elevator to Park, and so on until you unlock all elevators.

Note that there's no need to play through Uptown five times for any achievements.
