How to unlock the Late Boomer achievement in Super Stardust HD - Definitive Guide

Add on Pack Required: Solo Pack
Price: £2.99
Mode: Bomber
Can anyone say, hardest SSHD Trophy ever? Well, this is one of the hardest on the game for sure. Basically, you need to blow up bombs to get bombs and this is the only way. Try and use 1 to receive 2 by blowing up a ship, or even better, 1 to blow up 2 ships to get 4. Confused? Well, it's tough!! Just don't waste your bombs on those little critters.
Let this video inspire you...

One of the most difficult trophies in the game. There are a few simple rules on how to get it, as well as a video guide :
  • Always be on the move, if you stop you will die.
  • Concentrate, if you can’t, leave it and come back to the game later.
  • Don't allow yourself to be blocked by mines or rocks. Sometimes, of course, it will be useful when they can protect you, but always be alert and oriented.
  • You definitely need to destroy two ships with one bomb at the very beginning. Thus, you will receive 13 bombs in your hands and you will have nothing left until the reward.
  • After impact, all stones, regardless of various factors, will fly to the point where your ship is born. You can use this for your safety by trying to stay on the far side of the planet.
  • Your boat can slightly touch stones and barriers; their collision radius is slightly smaller than that of mines. Knowing this, it will be easier for you to fly past them.

I don't remember exactly how many attempts it took me to get this trophy. I only remember that I tried to get it for several days for a total of 5 hours.

My tips:

- Look at the available guides on YouTube and try to repeat the player’s strategy. The appearance of ships is very random, and opponents (asteroids, aliens) usually appear next to you, so the guides are more likely to simply focus on your skills, which are of paramount importance.

However, after watching all the videos, I settled on the guide, where my ship from the very beginning of the game flies all the time to the left, carefully making its way through the rings. And when continuously following this route, sometimes the first transporter would land next to me, which is already a huge plus if I manage to set bombs on it.

- With the fifth ship, complete pi**** begins and then there is no way to dodge such annoying opponents as red triangles, so you have a chance of collecting 15 bombs only if you don’t spend a bomb on at least one ship (for example, if the mines will blow it up).

- You can use the ship as a shield (if it flies near you), pushing away all the asteroids in its path. However, if you are surrounded by a dense ring of asteroids, there is a ship in front, and mines are coming at you from behind, then the situation will be hopeless, so you need to look at the situation (in this case, the only way out is to use a bomb).

- If you decide to blow up a ship with your bomb, then always stand either in front of it or behind it (better from the back), because the blast wave may not reach the second wing (in case of an explosion from the side).

- If you used a bomb, but only one container exploded, then I advise you to replay, because in this mode there are only so many bombs for the trophy and you cannot miss a single one.

- Don’t forget that sometimes ships intersect parallel, and after spending one bomb you have the opportunity to get not two, but 4 at once (total +3 instead of +1). However, it is worth noting that this event is quite rare, and even more rare is the case when all the boxes on both ships explode from one bomb - you need to stand very well (as close to their intersection as possible).

- Ideally, you should aim mines at a ship: move away from them and make sure that the ship is between you and the mines - this is a difficult and thankless tactic, but it gives an excellent result.

- I assure you, over time you will develop a certain skill, and you will be able to successfully dodge even chaotically moving asteroids.

- Turn off the music (it’s better to leave the sounds at least to hear the ship appear) and turn on your favorite music. This is a good way to relax and not worry about failures when you have to sit for a long time on one trophy, which requires a constant restart of the level after a short time (example: the game Trash Panic).

- Determine for yourself the viewing range of the planet. Making it closer will help you see the area around you better and dodge asteroids more successfully. At the same time, a distant view of the planet allows you to see a passing ship earlier.

- Make sure you don't need to reassign the sticks. For example, I played through many games with a broken-down joystick (one of the sticks worked very poorly), and this stick was used to control the ship in Stardust HD. Only then did I think of changing the stick to one that works better. Perhaps this advice will be relevant for someone.

- Remember that if you don't stop trying, sooner or later you will get that coveted trophy. It's half a matter of circumstance and the other half a function of your skills, so by improving your skills you'll inevitably increase your likelihood of getting a Bomber.
