How to unlock the Long Time No See achievement in Super Street Fighter IV - Definitive Guide

To get this achievement you have to play arcade mode on hardest and fight and beat Gouken. The requirements for fighting Gouken are the same as they were in the original Street Fighter 4. You must not lose a round, and I suggest you use only 1 round but keep it at 99 seconds. On top of not losing a round, you have to get at LEAST:
- 1 perfect
- 3 ultra/super finishes
- 5 first attacks
Now when you actually fight Gouken you can't lose, otherwise you'll have to start all over because it just ends if you lose to him. Now, the more rounds you have it set on the higher those requirements for the amount of perfects and ultra finishes and such get, but I don't know why you'd want to torture yourself. As for what character is easiest to use... Zangief is my main and you could use your main if you're fairly good but the thing about Zangief is he's easy to use against CPU. Just spam his Lariat, i.e. either all 3 punches or all 3 kicks, the kicks are quicker but do slightly less damage. If spamming his Lariat doesn't work then sit back, wait for them to attack and then once they do, Lariat to counter it. To build up ultra meter you can either sit there and take hits or be smart and just focus attack(medium punch + medium kick) fireballs/attacks then dash out of them. Or you could do super finishes but it takes longer to build up super. His Ultra 1 is pretty easy to pull off too, just spin the stick around 2 full times and hit all three punches. Just a side note, no matter what character you're using always use the Ultra you know you're going to be able to land when trying to get this achievement. Hope this info helps, happy chievo hunting! =)

A real issue with this achievement is the way Gouken can combo his fireballs (ie. he can continue to use them over and over and literally make you block til you're out of health), so anyone dong this who can't use Zangef (ie. me) use someone like Blanka or Hakan because their slides are a godsend.

Can a second player join to save you from the Gouken battle? Or do you have to do that first go?

Just to add on Ish Agisaka's guide:
- You have to do arcade mode with someone you already beat it once with.
-You can't lose EVEN ONCE
- If you are getting owned by the CPU make sure you have a second controller nearby to interrupt it. That way it will say here comes a new challenger instead of K.O! (Your achievement would be lost if you get K.O'd even once)
If you put 1 round for options before Arcade Mode begins you will need to get the following:
At least:
- 1 perfect
- 3 ultra/super finishes
- 5 first attacks

I just got this achievement yesterday and I found Zangief to be very hard to beat the computers with a perfect, since the computer are smarter this time around and actually know how to wake-up and screw your double Lariat over. I was just about to give up on this one until I was doing Arcade mode with Blanka. I got perfects SOOOOO easily (on hardest) with him. You just have to spam the cannonball and/or his lightning attack where you just sit there and mash the punch button. The computers won't know how to deal with it and just keep walking up to you and get stunned. XD Just watch out for wake up ultras like Cammy where it covers a lot of the screen. Cannonball Spam worked great against E.Honda. Lightning attack worked well against Balrog, etc. Experiment yourself, and you will see how much easier it is. Double Lariat is too risky and up close...You're just asking to get chip damage and screw up your perfect. If your perfect got messed up just charge up for ultra beause you still need 3 to get to Gouken. Remember pick Blanka's Ultra 2 SHOUT OF EARTH! It's awesome because it can be used as an Anti-Air/Anti-Ground and it takes a lot. Once you get to Gouken...kick his butt and you'll unlock the achievement. :D

Good Luck fellow achievement hunters.

Does the 2nd controller trick work with Gouken aswell or just the others?

This should be the top solution. The hardest part of this achievement for me was getting the perfect. Lost all hope getting a perfect with Zangief and I am so glad I saw this solution. It's a cakewalk getting a perfect with Blanka as long as you are up against the right character. Adon, Dudely, Makoto and El Fuerte are a joke for this. Thankfully, Gouken is probably the easiest character since he can't even hit you with is projectiles. But I can confirm that the second player can join to save you from losing on Gouken, Oni, and Evil Ryu!

I found a lot of controversy about this achievement as well as with the ‘Overwhelming Power’ and ‘Birth of Oni’ achievements. Here’s how to fight against Gouken:

- Never lose a round
- 10 First Hits (for 3 rounds match)
- 5 First Hits (for 1 round match)
- AT LEAST 5 Super/Ultra finishes (for 3 rounds match)
- AT LEAST 3 Super/Ultra finishes (for 1 round match)
- AT LEAST 2 Perfects (for 3 rounds match)
- AT LEAST 1 Perfect (for 1 round match)

To get the achievement you have to fight him and win on the hardest difficulty.

*This works for SSFIV and SSFIV arcade edition.
*If you make LESS Ultra/Super finishes Akuma will show up instead.
*If you finish Seth with an Ultra Oni will show up instead.
*If you want you can switch to the Super Street Fighter IV version on the options menu so you won’t risk fighting Oni or Evil Ryu.
*You CAN use a second controller to save you from a fault by pressing start on the second controller. The ‘Here comes a new challenger’ screen will show up, just beat player 2 and continue from where you left.

Another tip regarding Ish Agisaka guide: Zangief works wonderfully, but another fantastic player would be T-Hawk. I don't know what the move is called, but it requires jumping in the air, and performing a down-forward punch (like an eagle dive). This can be spammed, and not only that, he also has an unblockable grab like Zangief, great reach with sweeps and easy to perform an anti-air, and exact same Ultra as Zangief. Personally, I always try to get a perfect on the first person in the arcade, as every other requirement is really easy.

Another tip for this, is to use Abel. You may be wondering, "Abel? Wtf?" Well, the computer is SO bad in this game, you can do it tornado grab thing over and over until they can't move for a perfect at the least.

Start the round with a Focus attack and hit them. Dash into them and do the tornado grab. Dash THREE times into the enemy and do it again. Dash THREE more times and do it again. Rinse and repeat and it works like a charm. ;) good luck achievement hunters. One more thing. DO NOT USE ULTRA 1. You're gonna wanna use Ultra 2 because it's a grab. Now, I can wish you guys good luck. :D

To reach Gouken you must have reached the end of any characters Arcade Mode. Set your rounds to win to 1, make sure the difficulty is set to Hardest and meet the following requirements:

  • 1 Perfect Victory
  • 3 Ultra/Super Combo Finishes
  • 5 First Round Attacks
  • NO CONTINUES

On the hardest difficulty all of these can be very difficult standards especially for an inexperienced player. For the no continues requirement you can have a second controller on standby and ready for when you are about to lose a round, you can press and it will not affect you negatively at all. Two good recommended tactics for this are:

You can use Ryu and rely on Focus Attacks and his Hadoken’s, Ryu is one of the best overall characters, his Hadoken and Shoryuken can get you can easy first attack most of the time. His Super and Ultra moves are projectile moves and will deal a good amount of chip damaging almost guaranteeing your Ultra/Super Finishes. You can use this video as a reference or example on what you might want to do:

(Video credit goes to bluntslide42 from youtube)

Another good method is to use Zangief and his Spinning Lariat with and pray you can at least pull your Perfect early, then you just have to get the Ultra/Super finishes and the First Attacks.

Zangiefs Super : Final Atomic Buster (720 rotation clockwise starting from ) + ( , , )

Zangiefs recommend Ultra : I Ultimate Atomic Buster (720 rotation clockwise starting from ) + ( + + , )

OK, here seem to be the unlock conditions (warning: DO NOT EXCEED THEM! I ran into problems)

Set Rounds to 1
1 Perfect
3 Super/Ultra Combo Finishes (I'd also highly suggest getting these done before Seth: It may not have counted Ultra Finishing him)
5 First Attacks (Source: TA)

OK, now for the fun part: Here are my tips:

1. Second controller mandatory. You are going to screw up unless you're someone like Daigo Umehara. New Challenger when you screw up.
2. If you have a fight stick and know how to use it, I'd highly suggest using it on this one.
3. If you're not a pro, Cheap 'Gief with the Lariats is the best way to deal with this problem. Use jump buffers to land 720's, I'd suggest going to Training Mode to get the timing down and only attempting 720s when the opponent gets stunned.
4. If you don't have a stick or a MadCatz Fighting Game Pad and have to use the PS3/PS4 controller, here's the controller setup I use:

Square: Light Punch (in case you ever need a SPD)
Triangle: Your choice
X: LP + MP + HP (for easy Lariats)
Circle: HK (you will need it to stop cheap Ultras)
L1/R1: Your Choice
L2/R2: TURN OFF! This was by far the most frustrating thing for me trying this with those buttons on. Once I turned them off this was far easier. And yes, I'm probably a cheap-ass.

Considering Capcom is giving everybody the big FU in terms of completing their games and making them near impossible, enjoy people.

I did it with Blanka - settings: 1 round, 99 seconds, hardest. Some opponents like Abel and Rolento are stupidly running and jumping into his Electro Attack, just spam it and when you block/evade their Ultra, perfect is guaranteed. If you have a turbo function, you could even keep the electro shocks up for the whole round. The EX version is even more powerful.

His second deadly move is the forward rolling attack. Opponents like C. Viper don't know how to counter it, just do it over and over again. Shoto characters can be dealt with his cf.P (the one that makes you slide). This is also helpful to get first hits in 80% of all round starts. Against Seth it is helpful to pause the game a lot to keep track of him when he teleports like a madman.

Blanka also has a better Ultra than Zangief in my opinion. His second Ultra is a giant Electro shock and covers a huge part of the screen - the opponent only must touch the ground with his feet (there is also an anti air version though which can be used alternatively if needed). Also you can do it from a blocking position as you need to charge back (or down back). Zangiefs Ultra 1 has a short range and I can only pull it off by buffering the input during a jump which is very risky, especially against people like Ryu, Ken or even Seth. Zangief is good for the 20 seconds round finish trophy though...

I did more than 5 first attacks without issues, so its possible to exceed these.

Requirements For 1 round Run :

- 1 perfect
- 3 ultra/super finishes
- 5 first attacks

Guide :

I understand why everyone said zangief but trust me Rolento is wayyy too easier if you use this guide

- So first of all set your control layout to B in settings

- Set the Arcade mode to 1 round 99 seconds , Hardest and pick rolento
(Optional) : If you have another controller turn it on and keep it close to you

- So you should know that the Ai for hardest scale after every game and some characters are generally Hader then other characters ( Fei Long, chun li , Ryu , Zangief , Cody . Have Really hard Ai that made me reset so many runs )

- for the first game unless you're against anybody who's up there it's your only chance to get perfect Using LP+MP+HP ( cn_LT ) Spam
There's a 90% you'll get your perfect , first hit During this Game , if you get hit Just press Start on your second controller and the New Challenger screen will appear you'll play against P2 and reset the Match you had against the Cpu so you would have another chance on the perfect ( pick Seth with your other controller Because he have the lowest health in the game )

- for the next few games You wanna make sure you always get first Hit Using Only LP+MP+HP ( cn_LT ) except for Sagat bc he'lluse low fireball I suggestyou jump hk then go back to your spam , once you get the cpu to low health let them hit You until you get your ultra so you can use it for the Ultra finish ( Ultra one is reliable and easy cn_downcn_downrightcn_right cn_downcn_downrightcn_right cn_LT if you miss Just press Start on P2 Controller and repeat

- OK , so after few games if you're unlucky like me you might get a good AI or character that won't fall for your cn_LT Spam what I did is spam something else just as Broken
So u start the round Blocking Low cn_downleft and wait for the Ai to Make a mistake ( Attack you ) So u cam punish with cr.Hk cn_downcn_RB to get the knock down
And right after that I want you to stand Lvl 3 (fully charged) Focus attack cn_Y+cn_B and before he fall use cr.Hk cn_downcn_RB and Charge Focus attack again until he's low
Let hit hit you to get ultra and use it

- if you do this you can easily get to Seth with all your requirements already met
Seth is hard he reads input every few seconds so you wanna mix it up always start with low block let him do one of this 2
1- CR.HP ( LONG ARM ATTACK ) he'll throw a sonic boom right after I want you to jump on him when he does that and block again
2- Full screen jump overhead so u gotta react to it by standing Backcn_left then cr . Block again

So after this attacks he'll most likely use hit gravity grasp or when he does he'll either use his normals , command throw , or any other move that is punishable
Once he does and of those punishable move you want to use cr.Hk cn_downcn_RB Focus attack
Then mix it up by spamming LP+MP+HP ( cn_LT ) this will most likely destroy him bc he'll start using Focus attack and this attack break it if you're lucky you'll kill him just spamming this if not u can repeat the first steps and it'll resest his inputs reads

- now for Gouken The way I won against him is by the Cr.Hk Focus attack Loop
cn_downcn_RB cn_Y+cn_B cn_downcn_RB

Good Luck : )

I tried following the guides above and always ended up fighting Akuma instead of Gouken. Here's what worked for me on a 1-round fight basis:

- Two perfects
- Four Ultra finishes
- Five first hits

As to the character I chose Blanka since his Electric Thunder is very effective for the least. If you have a turbo controller, just set turbo to R1 or L1 and a lot of your opponents won't even be able to come close to you (easy perfects).

Blanka has two downsides though:

- While the Electric Thunder spam works wonders against characters like Sakura, Adon, Dudley or El Fuerte (good thing since the latter is the rival), this attack is often ineffective against characters with ranged attacks, who like spamming fireballs - Ryu, Ken and Guile for instance. If you are in one those fights, try to stay as close to them as you can, block their attacks, and wait for the right moment to quickly hit with L1/R1. It is possible to use Electric Thunder at close range but very risky, since you will be vulnerable during a few tenths of seconds - more than enough for the AI to punish you on hardest difficulty.

- His Ultra Combos are not easy to use: they must be charged for a couple of seconds, and you'll probably have a hard time to land them correctly on some fast characters. I used Lightning Cannonball most of the time, but don't hesitate to use the second controller trick if you happen to miss.

This being said I didn't have too much trouble to reach Gouken with him. It may depend on which opponents the game gives you and your personal preferences, but apart from Ryu, Ken and Seth if you don't know him well, it should not be too hard (that is if you have a second controller obviously, definitely not the same thing without).

As a side note here is how I organized my fights to fulfill the requirements:

- 1st fight: Sakura. Very easy to spam her with the Electric Thunder. I got the First Hit, let her deplete my health bar until my Ultra gauge was half full, then attacked and finished her with Lightning Cannonball Ultra.

- 2nd fight: Adon, once again an easy target. First Hit (2 so far) and Perfect (1).

- 3rd fight: Chun-Li. While she is a bit more annoying than the first two, she is not too bad if you can stay close to her. Contrary to what I said above about characters with ranged attacks, Electric Thunder works farly well with her, and she is quite an easy Ultra finish (2).

- 4rd fight: Rufus. He is harder than he seems because he often breaks through Electric Thunder and has very good Ultra attacks, but he still gets often hit. I focused on getting the first hit (3), but missed my Ultra finish.

-5nd fight : Dudley. Easy first hit (4) and Ultra finish (3) using the same procedure as for the Sakura fight.

- 6th fight : Bison. First hit (5) and Ultra finish (4) after three attempts, because he always jumped at the wrong time.

-7 fight (rival) : El Fuerte. This is where you should focus on getting your second perfect, which should be easy.

Now that you have 2 perfects, 4 Ultra finishes, and probably more first hits than needed, you have two possibilities for Seth's fight: beat it without Super/Ultra, which will lead you to Gouken, or finish him with a Super/Ultra to reach Oni (if you have the Arcade Edition of the game). Since he teleports a lot and tends to attack restlessly, it is hard to land a combo on him with Blanka though. You don't need it for long Time No See anyway.

The fight may seem hard at first, but after a few attempts you'll notice that his attacks are actually very predictable. For instance he often tries to attract you near him: if he succeeds, block beauce you will very likely get hit. If there is still a distance between you and him, use Electric Thunder because he will just run on you and get hit everytime.

Basically block his fireballs, stay away from him if you can, use Electric Thunder when you know he will be helpless, and you should be fine.

As to Gouken he is really not hard either. If you use Electric Thunder his fireballs won't even hit you, just let him attack and punish him. Just prepare to block when his Ultra gauge is half full, because this attack hurts a lot if it hits. As soon as the fight ends in your favor, you will get the achievement.
