How to unlock the Tecmo Bowl Champ achievement in Tecmo Bowl Throwback - Definitive Guide

Let me tell you one thing before attempting this. Make sure you have a memory card before entering the playoffs. If you don't and you lose the game or quit to dashboard or turn off the console you will have to start the season all over again. Guess what? You can't sim!

I found this out the hard way and offer my warning make a back up on a memory card in case you lose or something else happens power goes out whatever.

Pick sanfrancisco they have the best passing attack and a quick qb to get away when your receivers are covered. Pick nothing but shotgun zs play if no one is open run with the qb.

On defence always pick a run to the outside as they are hard to defend and just anticipate where run will happen else where.

I think it's worth stressing the backup option. Backup that save after each game! It worked perfectly for me. I ended up picking a terrible team and my skills at this game aren't very good, but being able to simply replay each game I lost made the entire achievement manageable. In case it isn't clear in the description you can use this for each game in the season and each game of the playoffs. It really doesn't take that much time to exit out after each match, and the frustration it saves made the playtime much more enjoyable. But best of all it made this achievement extremely easy to obtain.

Quick tip: Dallas and Detroit have two of the best halfbacks of all time (Barry Sanders (number 20) for Detroit and Emmitt Smith (numbur 22) for Dallas). Don't let those two loose or they will run for 30 yards easy. Detroit has 0 passing game so they shouldn't be much trouble, but Dallas has Troy Aikman and they will cause problems.

Yes you just have to win enough to make the playoffs and then win all your games in the playoffs.

Ugh. I saved before the playoffs but lost in the championship, so I booted up my save from my memory card and went through and won the championship. No achievement. This was my second season. I'm never playing this game again.

I won all games, never reset or turned off my Xbox in the middle of a game, only exiting after I'd won a few games, to play later on. The achievement just never popped. Not sure why.

Just a note from my experience. I played with San Fran and faced Dallas in the Conf Championship. They catch every pass. They force tons of fumbles. Run out of bounds whenever possible. Get 5-6 yards at a time if you have to. Emmitt Smith ran like he had a rocket up his ass. Finally faced Houston in the Super Bowl and they were a cake walk.

Hominculus I am currently trying the ori and the blind forest method of deleting your save while playing offline if you mess up. We’ll see how it goes

To those who did not have the achievement pop, it says, "Win a single player COMPETITION season". When you make a new season, you need to select "Competition" and not "Casual". Try again and see if it works

For people struggling in the playoffs: it seems that the better you do in the regular season, the more difficult the AI is in the playoffs. The first time I did this my record was 15-1 and the opposing team seemed almost impossible to beat.

Here is what I did: Start a competitive season. I picked San Fransisco for two reasons. One, they have some of the best passing in the game, solid rushing and solid defense. Two, their division only has three other teams (this will come into play later).

To start off, if you are playing against someone not in your division, then lose (forefitting by quitting out will work just fine). If you are playing against a team in your division then you will want to win. Since you have to play against teams in your division twice, this will amount to 6 total wins (against 3 other teams). When you are losing, make sure your total losses do not excess 7 (for the time being).

The key here is to make sure you are the champions in your division (a small cutscene will occur when this happens for all teams in each division). This will guarantee you a spot in the playoffs. If you win against the teams in your division, a 9-7 record should be more than enough (I managed to do it with an 8-8 record)

Now that you are in the playoffs you will find that the opposing team's AI will be much easier to deal with. Now simply win the Super Bowl and the achievement is yours.

NOTE: Now that everyone has cloud storage, be sure to save after each win in case you mess up.

This is great, thanks! Speeds up the entire process since you don't have to play each regular season game. Going to try this soon.

I should have listened and not win 11 matches to avoid the extra playoff match. The opponents are so tough now and I don´t want to restart. This game is shit!

I hate the mercy rule shit!

For those playing on Game Pass, there is a way to backup your save provided you still have an Xbox 360.

-download the game demo on your Xbox 360
-play your season on Xbox One
-when you have completed a game and want to back up, make sure your cloud save is up to date on your Xbox one. Close out of the game on your Xbox one
-log in on your Xbox 360 and load up the demo. Doing this will download your cloud save to the 360
-on your 360, copy the cloud save to your hard drive or usb backup
-do this after every game in your season, and especially the playoffs
-if you need to use your backup, replace the cloud save with the one from your Xbox 360 usb drive.
-When you play the game on Xbox one, choose the option stating that you last played on a different console (this will cause your backup to become your current save game)

Hope this helps

Great guide. Only had to intentionally reload the save a couple times. Had another where I forgot to save right before the playoffs and quit out that made me forfeit. Had to reset superbowl twice cause this game makes it stupid hard but finally got lucky day before it leaves.

Glad to hear it worked for you EazyE2285! If I remember correctly it was Minnesota that gave me the most trouble in those last few games

You don't need to install the demo. You can just go to storage on your 360 and copy the save file back and forth between the cloud and HD.

You need to play through the entire season and make the playoffs and then win every game in the playoffs and the superbowl. The games all have 5 minute quarters and you cannot change that. The 16 game season will get boring and tedious for most people.

OK, here is a tip I found while playing through the season which made this go alot faster for me.

Pick the Houston Oilers. I will explain why; they are one of the best teams in the game and their division only has 3 other teams (Cleveland, Cinnicinati, Pittsburg). Those 3 teams are not very good in this game so they will probally lose alot.

HERE is the trick. You cannot SIMULATE games, but if you start a game, then press start and exit the game, you will return to the main menu and forfeit the game and lose 0-6. This can be used to your advantage to skip alot of games in the 16 game season. Do not SIM the games against the teams in your division. You want to play and beat every team in your division twice because this will maximize the amount of games you can afford to forfeit and skip.

I ended the season with a 9-7 record and I won the division because the next best team was 8-8. SO, I only had to actually play 9 games which I won each time, then I used the forfeit method to "SIM" 7 games which I was then given a loss for each forfeit.

Just make sure you have practiced enough to win every game in the playoffs and super bowl because you will have to start all over if you lose a playoff or super bowl game.

Also, if you turn the power off on your xbox or return to the dashboard during a game you will automatically forfeit and lose in the playoffs or super bowl.

SO, if you have a memory card I suggest you copy your save file just incase you lose a game in the playoffs because you do not want to have to play an entire season from the start again.

Start a comptetive season using San Fransisco. Make sure it is competitive and not casual. SF has good recievers, a hall of fame QB (Steve Young) who can throw and run with ease, and a good defense that can allow you to easily win 12 games and lock up the top seed in the playoffs. Make sure you quit to dashboard after each win and copy your save file over to a memory card (connect a usb drive and format it if needed). If you lose a playoff game, just copy the game save from the memory card onto your hard drive and overwrite the current season.

WARNING: HAVE A MEMORY STICK OR FRUSTRATION WILL HAPPEN.
Tip: Dallas and Detroit have two of the best halfbacks of all time (Barry Sanders (number 20) for Detroit and Emmitt Smith (numbur 22) for Dallas). Don't let those two loose or they will run for 30 yards easy. Detroit has 0 passing game so they shouldn't be much trouble, but Dallas has Troy Aikman and they will cause problems.

As always if you vote negative give a reason why so I can correct it in the future.

Start a single player competitive season and make it to the playoffs, and then win completely, plain and simple. If you lose during the playoffs or quit during it, you will have to restart from the beginning (unless you backed up your save, which is highly recommended as the computer gets SUPER cheap as the season goes on, especially in the playoffs). After you win the Super Bowl, the trophy will pop!

Note: I've read that if you lose 2-3 games in a row at the end of the season (as long as you are going to make the playoffs), the computer kinda "resets" its difficulty and the playoffs are a lot easier. I have not tested this, but I've seen it in quite a few places so it might not be a bad thing to try if you are having problems in the later rounds.
