How to unlock the Be Prepared achievement in Terraria - Definitive Guide

To get this achievement, you need to have 5 timed buffs active at one time. These are temporary boosts to the stats of your character, and debuffs do not count. Simply drink five different potions at the same by putting them in your top row and hitting cn_RT. They are commonly found in treasure chests all over the world, or they can be crafted. You can craft potions at the Alchemy Station or Flasks at the Imbuing Station. If going for this from the beginning, simply explore the world and save your potions at your home base (or in a piggy bank or safe) until you have five different ones listed below.

NOTE: Healing potions do not count for this achievement since they cause "Potion Sickness", which is a debuff. Also pets, campfires, and Heart Lanterns do not count as they are not timed buffs for a character.

You can turn off Auto Save, drink your 5 potions, get the achievement and then quit without saving to keep them when you reload.

Heart Lanterns, Campfires, and Pets do not count. These must be timed buffs, such as those from potions or flasks. Although I do think standing in Honey counts since it is a 30 second buff.

Just a side note: non-combat potions such as mining and building also work.

Pets also count as buffs, as well as being near a campfire or standing in honey. The campfire is the easiest of these to get if starting from the beginning.

Use 5 different potion buffs and have them active at the same time. Anything will work, except health potions.

Buffs are temporary enhancements such as increased armor and health regeneration. Potions are the best source of buffs. Chug five different potions at once to get this achievement. Buffs are super useful for Hardmode bosses, so you'll probably get it when you're prepping for one.
