The Stardust is a collectable item that you can find by interacting with the backgrounds in every town. It can be found inside a fire, inside some pots, under a bed and so on, so keep interacting and explore every corner of each town you will visit.
The first stardust can be found in Bale town, inside a well. There are 50 of them total and even if they looks useless, you can trade them later for special items.
When leaving for Hoax from Bale, you will meet a strange woman: Martel. You will meet her again in Fletz, Deningrad and Rouge and she will tell you more about the stardust. Everytime you meet her, you can trade your stardust in exchange for a special item. If you give her all 50 pieces, she will give you an item needed for an optional boss in Chapter 4. Luckily, you need only 30 of them in order to get the platinum and this is an easy number to get. Also, when you give her 30 pieces, you will complete the first part of her sidequest by saving her daughter.
If you struggle to find the 30 pieces for the platinum or you want to find all of them for the optional boss, Follow this Legend of Dragoon Wiki with all the location of the stardusts and the location of Martell.
Note: You don't have to hold the 30 pieces, you can give Martell all the stardust you find and they will count toward the platinum
