How to unlock the Human Cannonball achievement in The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition - Definitive Guide
Human Cannonball
----------------------
For this one you need to finish the game in less than three hours.
It is possible to do this and all the other achievements in one playthrough, but keep several saves if you intend to do some extra exploring.
if you skip all cut scenes, and most of the dialogue (with Y) you should be able to clock in at about 90 minutes. So you do have time to learn those last insults or read all notes.
There are a few glitches: When agreeing on a price of the Sea Monkey with Stan, or trying to get rid of the seagull in the beginning. Both can end in eternal loops. So you'll need to save before these so you don't lose valuable time.
Personally I used one hour on Melee Island, and 25 minutes on the three last chapters combined. So you should be able to do this even if you spend two hours on Melee.

Thanks for the tips, and thanks for being the only person in the history of the internet to spell the word "lose" correctly.

The loop is that you go through the same list of excluding extras over and over again without the prize going down.

It's a great guide, I was able to finish the game in 1h20min following it. It skips some unnecessary steps, but really it's written for a second playthrough, when you already know what to do in each place and just need an optimal sequence to do things in.

the guide was helpful, although a little vague and unclear at times, and i finished the game with plenty of time to spare. finished in 2 hours or so. and i had even gotten slowed way down by trying to defeat 3 pirates with the insults, got all the cannibal notes, and escaped the hut 5 times!

having played this game on the amiga 500 all those years ago and also on pc and then doing the first run through of this i found this achievement simple however there are a couple of things that will slow you down.
1.insult sword fighting / navigators head
you dont need all of the insults to do this so try and get a few when you have a reasonable amount save then go straight to the sword master. if you fail load then try again eventually you will get it.
also messing around in the tunnels with the head can slow you down there is nothing you can do about this somthimes its quick sometimes its slow.
2. remember areas
i know its easier said then done but once you walk into an area if this is you second playthrough then you should remeber roughly what you need in each area then you can go somwhere do everything then leavesave the long task of walking back.
3.save and load
save alot if you do somthing particularly quick save then if you mess up later just load again.
4.ignore other achievements
if you havent done some achievements such as escaping the canibal huts several times . staying under water for ten minutes. then make a save near them and leave it. you can always load after the speed run and do them then.
if you take these into account then it should be easy.

Skip the cutscenes and the useless talk options and it should be very easy, I did it in 2:58 and I goofed around and talked to everyone. This video walkthrough will help you out in case you are stuck:
(Missable)
This game can be played through in under 3 hours with little issue and if you are familiar with the game or generally adept at speeding through a point and click you may get this organically on your first playthrough. However, there are a few tips to consider and three moments in the game that could stall you enough to land you past the three hour mark when you roll the credits:
- Hold to skip any cutscene you can, this will save you a good amount of time especially at the start of the game.
- Familiarize yourself with the controls early on in the game. I found hitting on the D-pad to change the cursor command to pick something up was much more efficient then opening the command menu with and selecting "pick up" with the cursor than selecting it. Also, take note of the command prompts and how they change when you mouse over an item or action. This short cut can have the same effect and save you another need to open up the command menu to look at something or use an item at times.
- I have written a full 100% Walkthrough for this game and lay out the details on how to best approach your first full run to achieve it in under three hours. You can find the walkthrough here: 100% Trophy Walkthrough
- The one moment that can take a chunk of time out of your run is the pursuit of the 16 pirate insults. You may find that the pirates are not giving you new insults or responding properly in a quick enough time to move on effectively. This is mostly unavoidable, unfortunately, as you need to learn as many of the responses as you can to spar with the Sword Master effectively later in the first section of the game. See the Sharp Tongue walkthrough for strategies and consider making a save before you attempt it in order to reload if you get horrible RNG on the pirates.
- Consider creating a save when Guybrush is put into the water if you are going to go for the Ten Minutes Later… trophy on this run. Wait out the ten minutes for the trophy and reload the save in order to not lose those ten extra minutes in you speedrun.
- The final trophy that could make a very small amount of extra time on your run is the Escape Artist trophy. This will only add about three minutes to your run but if you choose to avoid it do not make a save to return to it if you are also attempting the Marooned Everyone trophy. If you decide to, save Escape Artist for your second final quarter run. See both those trophies for more details.

I recommend unlocking this trophy on your second playthrough. Firstly, so as not to spoil the impression of an excellent game, and secondly, so that on the second playthrough you can skip all the cut scenes and optional dialogues. To skip cut scenes, use the 'triangle' key.
