After you exit the first cave you will look down on a group of Jotun. Use the jump point to get down.
The counter does not actually start as soon as the battle does. You need to take out the first 4 guys and then Thor will ask if anyone else wants to fight. You then have to fight some guys until your rage meter has built up and then use it.
After this scene the hint tells you to take out as many guys as you can. This is when the counter starts.
I suggest taking out all the guys up to this point using hammer attacks so that you have full odinforce and a call of vallhalla refill with which to let loose a few lightning storms and easily reach the required total.

Can't edit above comment but as soon as I posted that comment I tried again and did it. Still couldn't get lightning storm to work though so what I did was click the right stick and just threw that hammer like crazy at the distant enemies with the right trigger and the same for the close enemies but it seemed to mash them up pretty good - glad it's done anyway.
And just in case you are wondering, I still gave you a positive vote even though I didn't do it your way because :- a)you are the only person that's bothered to do a solution (and your other solutions for this game are pretty good) and b)if you can get lightning storm to work then I believe this way would work well.

This is annoying the hell out of me at the moment, can only get the counter up to 25 and lightning storm doesn't seem to work, don't know if I'm doing something wrong but it's been the same for 3 or 4 tries. I guess I'll just keep on trying for now.

After the tutorial in Niflheim about the Fury Meter, the battlefield will be struck by lightning repeatedly and many frost giants will swarm you. There's a Call of Valhalla power-up near here, so grab this and use either the Lightning Storm (hold 
) or Whirling Throws to dispatch lots of enemies quickly. This has to be done during this point, and if you don't get it, immediately pause and quit, then continue from the main menu to try again.
