You need 108,000 Valor Points to fully upgrade. With each section taking 18,000.
You'll need to start a 2nd playthrough to fully upgrade, so if you decide to play on Valhallen then it should come eventually (half way through Vanaheim) or it's simple enough to rush thruogh a 2nd easy play and finish off the upgrading.
Maximise Valor Points by using Y when grappling enemies. You can grab most small enemies and just kill them with Y. Bigger enemies you'll need to knock their armour off first before killing them with Y. Giant enemies and bosses just give you Valor anyway.
There are also little runic devices about that give 500-2500 Valor for activating them by pushing both sticks in 2 directions until the discs spin the fastest on the rune device. Most are obvious but a few (which give the most points) are hidden.
Completing Feats will also give you Valor, they also have an achievement attached so you'll want to work on these too. Combat ones are the easiest to do but don't give much Valor.

Purchasing all of the Valor Upgrades will cause this to unlock. You can tell if you have bought an upgrade if it has a blue aura around it, rather than a white one. You will likely need at least one and a half playthroughs of the game to collect enough Valor for them all.
