The achievement is NOT cumulative, i.e. you need to have the specified amount in the character's bag.

If you want to do it quickly, then collect and sell yellow and green items (take care of the blue ones), which will fall in mountains from enemies and chests, and it is quite possible that you will have saved up by the end of Greece. Collecting 1 million is not such a difficult task; according to legend, some clothes with good affixes in the merchant store cost tens of millions, by which time you yourself will become multimillionaires.
