To perform the brutal combo, you must press 
, make sure the enemy has not sustained any damage to make sure the enemy won't die before you finish the combo.
Drake will also perform a hard punch while running up to the enemy so make sure you stop before starting the combo.
This should also come naturally in your two playthroughs on your journey to the platinum, if not or if you want to get it out the way early, put the game on easy and just kill all the pirates that come onto the boat at the start of the first chapter.
Of course, I would prefer comments over negative votes, as it is way more constructive.

You will earn this trophy upon successfully performing the 20th Brutal Combo on an enemy. This can be done over the two playthroughs of the game then if you still do not have it, do not worry, you can finish this off at the Clean-up stage, just repeat the method for Brutal Expert.
Brutal Combos are cumulative, they carry over to your next playthrough. Furthermore, if you execute a Brutal Combo then die straight afterwards it will still count. Do not fret too much about this trophy as it will come naturally.
