This achievement can be unlocked in Exhibition, Arcade, World Tour and Online.
A diving shot is one in which your player dives (obviously) for the ball as it passes close to them. This achievement may unlock through natural gameplay, as it did for me.
However, if you wish to aim for it, move your player close to the net, and allow the opponents to hit the ball beside your player. React quickly, and your player may dive to the side and hit the ball back.

I unlocked this first try with Nadal playing against a hard-hitter archetype. Couldn't get it to pop with Djokovic or Fed

I don't know who the fool was that gave you a thumbs down but it pretty much worked for me. After seeing the computer diving for the ball while he was close to the net, I decided to try it as well and eventually it did work. The movement on this game isn't as loose as like the first Virtua Tennis to where the player dives even when the ball is out of his range so this game tends to be way harder to do so. It just takes timing.
