This will come to you naturally as you play through towards your other achivements.
For it to count as a smash it is when your player jumps in the air and smashes the ball down with a forehand smash straight down (will also count when you player stands still and does the same action but stationary)
If you want to see how far you are through this achievement go onto the main menu and click on 'my club' and then on medals and in there is all the stats towards your achievements.

To hit a smash try and get your opponent to attempt a lob and then press 
- This is usually done by net play.
