I can confirm that this achievement is obtained during world tour mode.
There are 4 seasons during the world tour, but when you finish your 4th season you can start a new world tour (unless you did exceptionally well and earned over 770 stars, that way, you go in to a much smaller 5th and final season).
When one world tour ends and you try to start another, just simply choose your already created custom character and it will give you the option to start a new world tour (minus your stars earned and so on) as him/her.
Any gold coins/earnings you made will cross over to your new world tour (the only things that reset are your stars earned during the previous tour, and your stamina bar), to earn the most money participate in as many tournaments, exhibition matches and fancy dress matches as you can attend.
Earning the 1,000,000 required does take quite a fair amount of time, therefore you will most likely need to start a new world tour upon the previous one becoming complete 2 possibly 3 times.
Finally, you do not need 1,000,000 actually in your account, it pops when you have earned 1,000,000 total, so feel free to work on the "shopaholic" achievement.

Got this in my second world tour with a different character on normal difficulty. So it's definitely possible to get this in just 2 world tour runs. Read on how to do it. I played with a male character in my first and with a female character in my second career but that is up to you. I got it late after winning the SPT Finals tournament during the 5th season. It was quite hard to win against Jim Courier with a woman but I wore him down. On to King now...

I had around 815 stars at the end of the US Super Tennis tournament (US Open equivalent) in my second world tour I believe (even more in my first). I was first in the SPT rankings and won all major tournaments during my career.

want to add that star matches will get you 10,000 if you win make sure you play them and that money donated to charitys is not taken off your money earnt.

Easy achievement to attain but just a little time consuming.
If your worried about winning the tournaments simply play the world tour on easy.
If you want to check up on how much you have earned so far during the world tour go to the main menu and click on 'my club' and then click on 'medals' and just scroll along until you find the stats for this achievement and it will tell you how much you've made so far.
This achievement is only obtained by participating in the world tour.
To earn money you can win exhibition games, player matches, tournaments, doubles exhibition games, fancy dress matches and training.
All the money you make accumilates over your world tours so don't worry about saving up the money as the achievement is earn 1,000,000 and not have 1,000,000 in your bank.
You cant earn this much with just one world tour journey, it will take you roughly 3-4 world tours to obtain this achievement as it all goes on your level of skill and how well you do in your tournaments. If you can win 99% of all matches and tournament it will take you about 3 world tours.
Aim for the tournament to make money, but on way to tournament make sure you get in as many player special matches which give you 10,000 and once you unlock the items if you wear 6 items of fancy dress during a fancy dress tournament you will earn 20,000.
After finishing your first world tour you can load up your player again and you will start with your money and stats but will start with 0 stars.
Aim to complete your trainings as after your first world tour you will start at higher level trainings so you fitness bar will grow a lot bigger making it easy to suffer less injuries and losing days.
And once you've started your second world tour aim to earn more than 770 stars as it will give you a 5th part of the tour where you will have a tournament with the best players and also a game against the King.

Money is accumulative. You do not have to have $1.000.000 available. You just need to have earned it through your whole career.
Money is gained whilst playing Ranked Matches online, so do not worry too much as “Online Master” will probably take you longer.
This can be grinded out later by playing another World Tour should you need too.
