Earn Marks of Excellence on a tier V or higher mercenary tank.

How to unlock the Earning a Reputation achievement in World of Tanks Modern Armor - Definitive Guide

*IMPORTANT* - This is only obtainable with a tier 5 or higher tank! Do not buy or complete a contract for tiers 3 & 4 if you are going for this achievement.

For this achievement you only need to earn ONE mark of excellence, not all three.

The general mechanic for this is that you must have an average damage+assist points higher than 65% of the player base who play a specific tank in that specific tank. (For 2 marks its 85% and 3 is 95%)

To earn this achievement, you must earn one of those marks of excellence in a Mercenary tech tree tank or mercenary premium tank. (Credit to WithTheDawn)

Mercenary tanks can only be bought with real money or earned through long missions. After you have the tank, you have to focus on doing well in that tank. Things that can improve your performance is well trained crews, premium consumables, equipment, and knowledge of the game in general.

I'm currently grinding out the contract for the Tusk, so I can't put up any more guides until that's done. But if anybody wants to write one, I'll put it up in the solutions and give you credit for it. I have a feeling the lack of guides is why this solution has so many negative vote.

From my experience using the "Stubbs" light tank you need to average 800 damage/assist points a game to consistently increase you damage percentage to get your mark. Obvious the more damage you do the better and the faster you rank up. Not getting over 800 points you don't increase your rank.

I say average because if you are lower tier it's highly likely you wont get 800 points because your spot range is not great compared to every higher tier tank in your game. So you wont get many spot assists and the "Stubbs" with premium rounds cannot penetrate the majority of higher tier tanks from the rear let alone the front. So you wont get much direct damage either.

Not doing damage in one match is fine because your percentage does not decrease that much. You cannot however, not do damage to enemies multiple games in a row. I lost 10% off my mark progression by being lower tier 12 times in a row and not getting any damage in 4 of those games. My RNG sucks balls in this games matchmaking.

Be warned aswell you will need to try and do this in one go because if you leave a large gap of time between starting it and finishing it your damage percentage will decrease on it's own. I lost 20% off my progress in 12 hours when I had other things to do. So I had to recover that percentage first then hit 65%.

You can check your current damage percentage on the stats tap. Just scroll down to the tank and when its high-lighted it will show you all the stats for the tank. The number you are looking for is on the right on the forth row down

A few tips for you that I used...

NEVER be the first scout that goes into battle. If you wait a minute you will see all other scouts race for the initial spot on enemies which ends with most them getting blown up. Which means you should be free to spot targets for your team, they should also be in position at this point.

Have the equipment for 10% extra spot range this really does help. I also had the equipment for 20% protection from critical damage to tracks. This is helpful because light tanks get tracked far to often.

I found using the equipment for increased accuracy when moving also helped. I personally did very little passive spotting as I find being constantly on the move keeps me alive longer. Only passive spot if your tank is severely damaged or you have a high vantage point over looking the map.

When moving over open ground don't drive in straight lines this allows players to predict your speed and hit you more often. Do the odd zig zag, just do a slight turn now and again. This may seen obvious but I see scouts die a lot from driving straight.

Also don't waste your time going to spot enemies at bottle necks where you know both teams will meet up. I rarely get the spot assists here because everyone is doing their own spotting.

Try and keep your distance from the enemy at the beginning of a match as not to get unwanted attention then when half the enemy team has been destroyed play a little more aggressively. Basically keep checking the map on the enemy positions and look for ways to get behind them. You do a good amount of damage with your gun and have a higher chance to penetrate them form behind or even the side

In close quarter city maps be cautious driving around corners. Peek them first as there's nearly always a tank destroyer waiting for you.

On big open field maps find a high vantage point and park up on it and wait for you team to position them selves this will give you a few spots and time to plan where you are going. Never blindly drive in the enemies direction without a place you know you can take cover if you end up spotting half the other team. This will be the instant death of you.

After a while you should know the maps quite well as I have noticed there's really not that much variety in the maps I played on as the "Stubbs" tank. Learning the maps is essential as you will learn where enemies will likely be and good routes to flank them.

Have all premium ammo if you can, buy it with silver by pressing the Y button on the consumables page. I know it can be expensive to start but the penetration on the "Stubbs'" gun is awful so any help here is needed. You wont use all 60 shots any way so replacing the few you use won't cost that much.

You don't need premium consumables because I never used any I used the small first aid kit, Manual fire extinguisher and the small repair kit. They are 3000 silver a piece.

Ultimately using the light tank is not for everyone. It has a steep learning curve because you are the first to get shot at and the easiest tank to kill.

This information may seem obvious to some as they are probably veteran players at this point but I hope this helps some newer players or non light tank using players out.

This is the hardest achievement with this update because it's solely down to your ability to play the game so I wish you good luck with it.

I think you are looking at the stats page online? I mean the stats tab in game, then scroll down to the Absolution. It should show your percebtage, which is what you need to get up to 65%.

Haha, I tried to warn people about the smoothman in the guide.

FELDGESCHREI, have you taken you taken a break from WoT for a while? Like since the 4.6 update? Because after the big update earlier this month, some of my tanks dropped about 10%.

Or maybe WG reset some older data in their servers, thus deleting some older battle records.

hahaha just saw i started 1 or 2 days before u posted the guide- unlocked 100 matches on 27th,guess next day i lost my dedication.

....first available tank to get that cheevo was the bulwark, but i missed half of the time so i decided to wait for next...
lowest required tier and tanks needed to complete the contract were my priority and none of its stats seem like it could be such a piece of junk
I DID NO BREAK,WANTED TO GET IT OVER ASAP
CHECKED STATISTIC AFTER EVERY MATCH
took about 100 to get above 60%,had awful bad luck streak then, fell back to 55% and finally got to 63%
ALL OF THAT IN STEPS SMALLER AS 1%
2 or 3 more matches like that last 1 would got me to 65%
uargh!!!

It had better work with the Absolution, been working on that for awhile now. In the low 60s just trying to make the final push. I'll update once I hopefully get there.

If it does count then I think it is an excellent option to be honest - that tank holds its own pretty well even against tier VIII with premium ammo, as long as you don't go rushing out too much.

You can see your current damage standing percentage on the stats page, it should change after each match. There is an algorithm WOT uses to work it out which they do not advise directly - essentially you need to play a fair few matches and perform at a decent average amount. They talk about it more here - https://console.worldoftanks.com/en/content/about/game-guide...

If you haven't already I would recommend putting some equipment on and always firing premium ammo (which you can buy with silver by the way, I forgot to mention). I'd be curious what percentage you are at with your stats - I think the fact you have played plenty of matches should mean you can move up if you start hitting better damage on average for a few matches.

Yeah, I know about the stats page, but it does not display where you fall compared to others. I do however see that your average damage was 1.01K per battle. So I have my work cut out for me. I need to raise my average by 161 points. Time to play better. cry

Lightsup55, I didn't know there was a change or an issue with this achievement.

At any rate, I just popped this achievement with my damage being 30.38 percent. Wtf???? Hey I'm not complaining about getting an achievement, but seriously. How did I get it at 30 percent? My only Merc tank is the deadbolt.

I haven't played in a few days either. Not sure if that helps it make anymore sence. Lol

No I get the patch and what was wrong. Even still, I am only at 30 percent in my deadbolt. Again I am not complaining, just really puzzled how I unlocked it with the damage standing I am at.

I'd guess anyone with a Mercenary Tank got this achievement with this latest update, I hadn't got a barrel mark on any of mine yet, my "best" Merc tank in terms of Damage Standing is the Absolution with 39.88%, so I'm nowhere near a Barrel Mark with it or any other Merc tank.

By Arador on 26 Jun 2020 01:26
I did forget to mention, you only have to get your damage standing to 65 percent for 1 mark of excellence.

65=1
75 or 85=2 (again it's been a while since I've played)
95=3
You can also look for marks of excellence ribbon/medal somewhere in the game and it'll tell you what percent is required for each mark.

Similar boat. Tier 6 plaguebringer. Solution. Premium ammo and use the range of the tank to keep out of enemmy range whilst streaming damage onto higher tier tanks. Don't be afraid to reposition when targets dry up. Try not to be out on point on your own. I tend to play through 15-20 diffetent tanks a day to cash in my x2 modifiers. Sitting down and just playing the same tank for a session, win lose or draw. This takes a bit of work and luck but its certainly not impossible.

So I just did this with the Jammer after about 70 matches and it wasnt too difficult. Takes about 1100 a match combined and if you can handle having a weak gun with good accuracy then it is a solid choice.

Is this achievement bugged? I got a few times a 2 or 3 with my tier 8 medium Mercenary tank (got it from a war chest) and this hasn't unlocked. Do I need to get the M? I guess I'll try to unlock another tier 5 or 6 to get this.

Those aren't the mark of excellence but you can gauge how good you are doing based on these awards. Getting a bunch Ace and 1s consistently is what will give you the achievement. 2's are barely above the % you need to average so you would need a lot of those. 3's are 50% better than everyone else which is still less than what you need for the achievement. Any games you do not get at least 2 or above you will need to do approximately two more battles to make up for it.

Did it with the deadbolt, only tier 5 so the highest i played against was 7 with the lowest at 4, with premium ammo i was able to damage nearly every tank and because of how fast it reloads it's easy to get a decent amount of damage in.
Getting about 750 damage stopped me from losing any percent whereas anything over i was gaining, some games i got 1800 or over 2000 easily and it's having a strategy to stay alive, the only downside is how slow it is and i needed commander skills and equipment to help speed it up.

If you are going to buy with real money or grind one of the free merc tanks, choose your tank carefully.
a) choose the class which you excel at. Check your stats, look to see which class you have the most Marks (MOE).
b) do not buy or grind the cheapest $$ merc or grind the easiest with the less amount of xp or tasks. The 100 wins will take even longer adjusting to a new or a playstyle you do not like or not good at.

I bought my Merc and I picked a light tank because I do very well with lights, but many will say light tanks suck because they do not do damage or as much as other classes, but in contrary they have great speed to get to the front line, spot the reds and get a good amount of spotting assist points. IMPORTANT INFO: spotting damage (when a team mate damages the tank you spot) are part of MOE calculations, direct fire ie shots you fire and damage you cause are not the only way to increase your MOE.

i wanna punch myself for choosin the smoothman , its definetely the worst tank ever!! i climbed slowly to slightly above 60% then had a streak of matches with 0 or 1 damaginghits
then made it back to about 63% ,when i finished a match that should had give me small step up,but definetely no loss od percentage......,
checked stats afterwards and i lost 10% ?!?!
just between 2 matches after playin half the day ....as well as 2 days before, there wasnt a break of week or something
NO TANK HAS EVER BEEN SUCH A PAIN IN THE ASS, even i finished some matches with caliber medal i had a lot more without getting anything at all - except gettin oneahot by a tier 7...,even tier 3 tanks are aserious thread

i wouldnt minded all that to avoid sttart allover agai, with another tank even it took another 100 matches........but having that 10% kinda stolen for unexplainable reason made me feel so ripped off that im not gonna try again

anyone knows a scientific explanation for that ;) ? im totally sure worstcase scenario after that match should have been plus 0% more likely plus 0,5 %

Awesome tank, slow (like a heavy), but powerful (590 hit points) and deadly (fast loading and aiming and small scattering). Achievement is hard to reach with this tank, because everyone that play with it is a good player. I needed about 800 damage per match (direct and assisted) to achieve, with 3 perfect last battles (1367, 1598 and 1447 total damage).

180 battles
96 victories (53%)
194 destroyed
58 survived (32%)
59% hit ratio

@Darkness727420

If you purchased your tier V (or higher) mercenary tank using Gold, it is therefor a premium mercenary tank.

Apparently, the achievement wasn't being correctly rewarded to players with a tier V (or higher) premium mercenary tank.

I unlocked this achievement after having played 128 battles in my tier V Stubbs mercenary light tank with 55% victories (71 at the time of this post). I got the I Class (95%) medal many times over, but no achievement until this patch.

Similarly, I have almost identical data with the tier V Bulwark mercenary heavy tank. Again, no achievement until this patch.

Every mercenary tank I own was purchased with Gold, thus making them a premium mercenary tank). No matter what I did, I couldn't earn this achievement until this patch that was recently released. I thought I was doing something wrong. As a matter of fact, I only needed to boot up the game and it was automatically unlocked when I got to the garage without playing a single extra match.

If you wish, you can check out my player stats.

Hope that helps.

How do you figure out which percentage you're at? When you say "hit into the 60s" are you referring to being higher than 60% of players? I am trying to figure out what the current cut-off for Absolution is. My range of damage varies wildly anywhere between 200-2000 points. It would be nice to know what average I will need to climb up to. I haven't been using strictly premium ammo, so I guess I should start doing so to make a big push. I play pretty recklessly though, so I am probably doing myself a disservice. When things go right though it's great (9 high caliber medals so far)

My stats so far are not too far from yours (for stuff I can see) but I have a feeling I am nowhere near the top 35% by comparing my performance to other Absolution players in a lot of my matches.

Battles: 136
Victories: 81
Enemies destroyed: 114
Hit ratio: 68%
Average damage (direct): 849

It has been a while since I've played the game, but I I remember correctly. You can check your damage standing in the stat tab, scroll to find the tank or use the filter option. As for "damage", the achievement is tied to the percent that says damage standing for each tank. I'm fairly certain it's only tier 5 and above that have that stat. There is no actual damage number, the percentage number for damage standing is calculated on how many people own/play that specific tank.

What you need to do is go for the highest damage possible in every game. If you have 5 games and you do 2000 damage it will go up, then if you have 5 games and you do 1000 or less damage it will go down. Don't fixate on those numbers as I'm using them for reference but hopefully you get the idea. The higher tier tank you have the more damage you need to do in a game for it to go up. Also if a lot of people own/play that same tank the more damage you're going to have to do in each game.

Hope I cleared some things up for you. Ask if you don't understand something and I'll do my best to make sense of it.

Yep I can confirm that this achievement will unlock with the Absolution. As I said, I think this is a good option to go for this achievement with if you have it, as it can just dominate the battlefield with the right setup.

My setup was to have the coated optics (+10% view range), medium-caliber tank gun rammer (-10% loading time) and enhanced gun laying drive (+10% to aiming speed). I also went into battle with 30 premium shots each match, and would immediately equip them at the start of each match. You will lose some money with this approach, but it is better to get the most damage you can out of each match. As a premium tank, you will normally manage to hit even or not lose too much on a good battle.

The tank has excellent side armour, so it is best to position yourself on the side of tanks when you can. Up against fellow tier VI tanks you can trust the armour to bounce a lot of shots, and will be fine 1-on-1. If you get swarmed though you will be in trouble and can die quickly. My general tactic was to try not to rush in too much, stick with the pack and take pot shots on the enemies. Near the end of the battle once there are not too many left you can normally charge in and flank around the enemies with the good speed this tank has. Shooting premium rounds you can deal damage to even tier VIII tanks. You will face them a fair amount, but just play very cautiously at the start, like a tank destroyer, and move in for some damage later in the match if you team doesn't fail horribly.

I ended up with the following stats when the achievement popped:

Battles: 114
Victories: 60
Defeats: 54
Enemies Destroyed: 155
Survived: 52
Hit Ratio: 71%

For most of the time I found that hitting a damage of 750 was decent, with anything over 1000 getting good progress. Once I hit into the 60s I started needing more like 1200-1500 to make good progress. You will fall backwards sometimes and there will always be the occasional match where you die without doing much and drop a few percent. But if you stick with it and keep firing gold rounds, you will do enough to get there.

Hopefully some people find this helpful and are able to get this frustrating achievement done.
