Mercenary tanks can only be bought with real money or earned through long missions.
This achievement is glitched - not a bad one, it may unlock after ONE battle is won instead of five. (Credit to Kelle1994 and Lord Terentius)
Once you have a mercenary tank, you need to find at least one more player with a mercenary tank to platoon with.
NOTE - if you join a platoon with one mecenary tank and one normal tank the achievement will not unlock!
Easy ways to find a partner.
1. Here on True Achievements you can create a gaming session. You can find this option on the right side menu of the game page about half down the menu.
2. The more relaxed method is to create Group on Xbox Live. To do this select the game options, go to "Game Hub", go to "Multiplayer" tab and either create the group or join an already existing one.
3. The last method would be to find someone during game play and sending them a message on Xbox live.

Boosted this today with other TA members.
It unlocked for me on the very first win (I was platoon leader FYI).
However half the group had to earn the achievement with the required 5/5 wins.

Damndest thing, this just popped for me about twenty minutes ago, and I was by myself. I was partied up with ratloach earlier, and he helped me get two wins, and then I was platooned up with my friend Reaper, but we weren't using Mercenary tanks, but then after Reaper left, I was playing Mercenary tanks (BigTop and Absolution), and on my fifth win in a Mercenary tank overall, the achievement just unlocks out of nowhere, weird!

I can also confirm that this pops after just a single win playing in a platoon of at least 2 Mercenary tanks. Also, I only own a tier VIII Mercenary tank, so hit me up on Xbox Live if you only have a T8 Merc and can't find anyone else with a T8 Merc to platoon with for this achievement. I'll help anyone with a quick win for some time.

Hey, I can confirm this achivement is bugged. here's what you need to do to pop it. You need to Win 1 game as a platoon.... after having 5 wins in any merc tank. The platoon does not need to be a merc platoon.

Yeah this is a weird achievement. Did this in a session last night. I was leader and had 2 others. Me and one guy got it after the first win. I had 4 solo wins in my Merc and the other guy had sixty something but this was his first time platooning with mercs. The last guy hadn't done anything and had to get 5 actual wins for him.
I'm gonna guess if you have 4 or more wins in a Merc tank, just win one more within a platoon and you'll get it. I'm unsure if this is the case for everyone but it's how I made sense of the whole thing.
