How to unlock the Grabbed the ghouls achievement in Yooka-Laylee - Definitive Guide

Hello everyone,

Here is what I found and used to get all those ghosts. In the description, the videomaker listed a timestamp for each. Very useful.

Thanks NintenU for your work.

Great! I did it without using this solution and, of course, the red ghost in the fifth level was my last ghost. I confirm that the achievement did not unlock. I played a few more hours and unlocked all pagies. Still no achievements for the ghosts. I will follow Piemanns Bakery's advise and try again on a second file...

EDIT: I can confirm that the achievement DID unlock after collecting the pink ghost of the second level at last. FYI, you will need 70 pagies to get access to all ghosts. All levels have to be expanded except for the second level. You can get all 5 ghost without spending the extra pagies there. I focussed on pagies that are either fun to get or fast to collect. It took me 6 hours to get all ghosts. I collected a lot of quills to progress in the story as fast as possible to unlock more skills. The flying ability makes a lot of pagies easy to get. Of course, it is annoying to replay a game just for a single broken achievement, but the game is actually a lot more fun, when you do not have to worry about those final pagies or quills within a level.

I grabbed the infamous red one in Galleon Galaxy last and achievement popped without issue.

To anyone trying this achievement, I highly recommend leaving the pink ghost on the glacier level for your last ghost. When getting the red ghost in Galleon Galaxy last (as done in the text walkthrough on TA) the achievement didn’t unlock for me (and at least one other person). We both had to do a second playthrough of at least 4 hours getting the minimum number of Paige’s required to get access to all the ghosts, but got the pink ghost on the glacier level last this time and the achievement unlocked no problem. Good luck!

There are 5 Ghost Writers in every Grand Tome world but all of them require different tactics to collect, depending on their color. Here's the tactics you need to employ:

  • Yellow Ghost Writer - Simply run into him. No special tactics required.

  • Green Ghost Writer - He will run away a short distance whenever you approach him so you have to be quick to catch him. Jumping into him works well, especially if you can use the aerial attack in his direction (Press after jumping).

  • Red Ghost Writer - You will have to fight this one before you can collect him. He's immune to your attacks most of the time though. In order to make him vulnerable, run circles around him until he does his charge attack. If he misses you, he will change color and is now open for your attacks. Once you've hit him, he will be immune again. Do this 3 times and he's yours.

  • Purple Ghost Writer - You have to feed him first before you can collect him. In order to feed him, find one of the many plants around the world that you can absorb with the Slurp Shot move (). Now quickly move the ghost before the plant's status effect wears off and shoot your iceball, grenade or whatever plant you absorbed into the ghosts mouth by pressing .

  • Blue Ghost Writer - This one likes to play hide and seek. The only problem, he can actually turn himself invisible. He's a loud person though so you will always know he's in the area when you hear him laugh. Once you hear him laugh or have spotted him before he turned invisible, run to his area and short shooting Sonar Shots in his general direction (). Once you have hit him, he will become visible and you can collect him.
