How to unlock the Playing with Power achievement in Zombie Apocalypse: Never Die Alone - Definitive Guide

Pretty simple achievement to get. Each of the four characters has 5 abilities..each abilty can be be upgraded 5 times. So 5x5x4(characters) = 100. I choose chapter 4 and redid this over and over until I had maxxed everything out. It doesn't take long, maybe 3-4 hours after completing the story mode. Some skills take longer to level up like your main weapon, whereas your melee attacks can be upgraded very quickly. Keep using your pwnage ability as soon as it fills up and keep switching characters to constantly use other characters pwnage abilites.

*Edit. This achievement glitched on me and didn't unlock after maxxing out Father Bill's shotgun and acquiring the 100th upgrade. I was slightly annoyed (understatement). So I decided to continue instead with the Multiplayer Story Mode and upgraded everything there too and got the achievement.

Can you break down how the money works? Does it save in bewteen levels? I had like 40 grand in one level and when I played it again, it only seemed like I gained only 3 grand more, when the total team money for that round was about $160,000. And all of my players are ending up having the same amount of money each round even though they end the previous round with different values (if they bought stuff).

I'm uncertain how the money is figured out, but I can't understand how they expect me to earn over $60,000 for the 5th level upgrade on some of these.

Played this in Multiplayer with my GF, got the last upgrade like minute ago - nothing, no achievement, I could not even buy the max lvl of Dual Pistols (just got the MAX note and nothing - like no upgrade after lvl 5). I am not going to do this in SP, tooks way to much time for a crappy game that this one is.

Popped instantly after the last upgrade. So it looks like you need to finish both SP and MP upgrades for the achievement if it doesn't pop the first time around. Glad that is over...

The money is always split evenly between your 4 guys, even if you spend more/less on one character than the other, the money is pooled back and then split into 4 again when you come back to the level up screen. Does that make sense?

Also, I found that if you die and restart the current level you don't get to keep money earned, but if you replay a different level the money will have saved.

Also if you constantly replay Level 3 or 4 (I preferred 4 due to that its an enclosed arena style level) you can gain money the fastest. I was netting around 60-70k per run if I remember right (so roughly 15-16k per character) then just save it up several times and you can grab that Level 5 Weapon upgrade

Has anyone tried doing JUST the multiplayer and not the SP? Could save a lot of time!

My achievement popped exactly when it should. Just got to MAX on every skill, and it popped up mid game. You should add into the guide that it has to be MAX and not just unlocking level 5. Also, probably should say to save for the weapon upgrades first, as they take ages. Everything else is really fast.

I haven't done a single second of Multiplayer, just did everything myself, leveling and grinding everything to lvl 6 for all characters, and the achievement popped no problem. What is probably happening is that people are doing multiplayer and it's going with whatever is done first.

I can't believe this game. It's punishing you for multiplayer when it was mainly designed for multiplayer in the first place.

M4TT J 83 - you need to max them AFTER getting to the last level. As if you were trying to go up another level, but the game won't let you.

Went through MP, leveled all to MAX - no achievement
On the same save, went through SP, leveled all to MAX - still no dice :(

So... started over again, clean save, played SP only (never touched MP), left the father's shotgun for last and the achievement popped mid-level when his shotgun got to MAX.

This achievement definitely deserves a buggy flag.

I hope this unlocks when it's supposed to. Reading the comments doesn't have me very confident... Fingers crossed!

Hoping someone can answer this.

Would it be a good idea to upgrade father bill to max first?

Got it without issue. I did father bill first as stated by the OP he had trouble with him being the last one, also I play as father bill in my group for epic run. So I figured I would be careful and just do him first. Unlocked instantly for me after getting Jeremy's hockey stick to max.

There's a reason people aren't getting the achievement when they think they should. It's kind of a dumb design decision, but buying the level-5 upgrades isn't enough; you actually need to earn XP afterwards, to upgrade the skills to level Max. If it's not a greyed-out bar saying "MAX" on the upgrade screen, you're not done!

To get an upgrade, you must fill five experience bars of five different weapons by doing specific actions while playing. After that, you can upgrade that weapon by using the cash you collected while playing.

Each character has 5 weapons that must be upgraded.
They are:

  • Speed - You fill it's experience bar by simply running around.
  • Default Weapon - Just keep killing zombies with the characters weapons until the experience bar is filled.
  • Special Weapon - Each character has a different special weapon that you can use by pressing . Just keep throwing that weapon and you will fill the experience bar.
  • Pwnage Ability - Keep using each character's Pwnage ability by pressing until you fill the experience bar.
  • Melee Weapon - Just use your melee weapon by pressing the and it will level up in no time, probably faster than the other weapons.

While playing you will notice that some weapons may level up (you will see an on screen message stating that). After that, finish a level and after watching the results you will be promoted to pay some cash to accept the upgrades and move to the next level. It is recommended to replay level 4 more than once since it's the best level for grinding. It has a good amount of enemies that you can be killed easily and level up.

It is best to get this trophy in the same way as saving money for upgrades at level 4 at the airport.

I upgraded the heroes on the second map with the flying Donut. There is little chance of dying, because there is one strong mutant sheriff at the end of the mission. All skills take a long time to level up, except melee weapons. Each hero can level up one of each of the 5 skills per mission. Until you buy a new level for the hero with money, there is no point in upgrading further, experience points do not count. Download additional weapon. Pick up all the Yellow Keys. Have you gained 3-4 charges for all heroes?! Switch to each one and throw them at the zombies. Then repeat the process. Also upgrade Special. skill; accumulated, applied, accumulated, applied. The process is long and tedious. It takes the longest to upgrade the main weapon and the speed of movement of the heroes. Although here everything is simple; we run and shoot, we run and shoot.
