To use the Spade power up you need Green Stone Combos of 3 units or more. As more you stack in a combo as faster you can get the Power up.
You can boost it, if you want, in the first few levels but this comes Near Naturally in your first play trough.
you can only use this power up and "Sand" barricades if you didn't see any of them you can#T use the power up.
