How to unlock the Neil Armstrong achievement in 7 Days to Die - Definitive Guide

Neil Armstrong

Obtaining any kilometer achievement is much easier than it seems, you will do a ton of running...... A TON of running in this game. Bad news is don't trust your achievement tracker on the ONE as it is absolutely worthless, also the achievements aren't even popping for me, they just unlock without saying it so if you worry about it not counting don't worry you are fine.

You can view your current amount of Kilometers ran in the menu where you are viewing your character on the right. If you plan on enjoying this game don't go out of your way for any of these achievements until you are done with everything else.

There is a Mini-bike in the game that should count for this achievement if they coded it correctly because it says Travel 1000 Kilometers without saying a required method. The Mini-bike is known to be extremely glitchy in Co-op/online so recommend doing this offline with Zombies turned off.

To make a Mini-bike you must find the Schematic which is random, higher chance of finding it in a crate or Safe. Once you get the schematic, save up Small pipes, duck tape, pelts (kill bears and deer). You will also have to make a Forge once you get the seat made and Handle's made. The Mini-bike will make this go by faster, once you do get it find a town/city and drive it in circles to accumulate KM.

You will also need tons of fuel so save up as much as possible, you can also breakdown Drum's for 600 gasoline so make sure to grab those.

So finally got this , but gave up jumping as i wasn't as convinced it was working anymore, it popped as i was riding the motorbike, It is possible the distance helped count toward it but i can't be certain because of the faulty tracker and the fact i never actually popped it whilst falling. But i suppose it was worth a shot, that is why i added it as a comment rather than in a second separate solution/. Goodluck to anyone going for this grind.

Going to guess my speed is slightly lower because I've lackybanded the controller into a circle (about the width of a road) or the quality of the bike is less? (if that affects speed) But I've calculated 28.3Km/hr speed and 3090L/hr in fuel.

So for a full 1000km (which I doubt you'd need if you've run around collecting bits for a bike) is 35.3hrs of riding in a circle and 109,185L of fuel.

Again, time might vary if quality of the bike factors into it, mine has about 4 purple parts and the rest are orange.

edit: by Litres I guess I mean units.. ie 3090 units of fuel an hour - I'm assuming litres since the distance is in KM's

vertical distance doesn't count, just a heads up (cause i saw a comment about it)

it also counts from multiple saves, i just got the 250 kms on my sp and i had "only" traveled 240

should probably tell people to stock up on Gas Cans or the stuff to make them as the Mini bike can't move without it. Those Gas Cans get used up so fast.

ok , so after trying for this achievement for hours and hours on end for a few days and failing to get it, ( in time for leap frog , had to throw that in there ) , using the motorbike and driving pretty much non stop i just had a idea.

The achievement is called Neil Armstrong, I think the clue is in the name , Falling Distance more than likely counts for this achievement, Falling from the max height to ground level , ( to the Min level if you dig a pit ) , is surely a much faster way to travel and we can just use the same crate method as people were using for deaths.

Going to finish trying it now, it may pop really quickly due to my hours of driving also , but i really think it will be a faster way if it works. I will add a comment or update this one once/if it pops the achievement.

..................................................................................................................................
This is the last achievement i need for this game, and still have not popped it yet but progress is , ... Still Un-achieved , and no idea if this actually counts towards total distance as my achievement tracked for distance has been stuck on 25% ,since i got the Marco Polo ( 250km ) achievement, for (real time ) 9 days.

Starting Elevation = +192 meters
End elevation ( pit )= -47 meters

Total fall distance per spawn ( ground ) = 192 meters
Total fall distance per spawn ( pit ) = 239 meters.

From the first jump i managed to spawn and die exactly 5 times in 2 minutes. into the pit 239 x 5 = 1195 . = 35.85km/hour ( this would obviously be affected if you miss the pit do not build one. )

So, probably a bit slower than the bike but really not by that much, but you do not have to worry about bears/random zombies( even when disabled )
sunstroke/hypothermia/crafting any tools/food/water/fuel/the random motorbike glitches/crashing the game and also driving your motorbike into...
A. A river ,
B. A giant hole in the ground
C. A Deadly radiation zone

( i did all the above at least one time.)
...

This may not be a viable long run option but if you are struggling with finding / maintaining bike parts or have sent a partner out looking for one and don't really want to do a lot of running around with low stamina, it may be a good way to partly help also if you have not already it is probably the best way to kill yourself for those achievements if you want them quickly.

Also like to add a note , i have not tried it yet , but it may be possible to craft a extra seat onto a motor bike ??? ( although the motorbikes are very glitchy when others are online , i noticed a number, "not durability", in the motobike menu on the seat icon but was too busy driving around to craft a extra seat to try it, and have only just remembered it. ) So it may be possible that IF you can make it a two seated motorbike ,a friend is working on this same achievement could ride you around as a passenger. Would be great for different time zones.

TLDR/// Do not know if this method actually works yet or is even worth trying. But i am working on it , + other non related , might/might not solutions.

Working out the motorbike speed , it is approx 37.1km/h , constant speed , but you have to stop for fuel , food etc mentioned in above post.

One thing that I want to warn everyone about is Oil Shale.
Oil Shale is in the console version...however the ability to convert it into gas is not. I spent a solid 2 hours digging up stuff and bringing it back to home base before realizing my mistake.

Oh well...back to Circling on the mini bike in the field. wink

My ingame tracker is broken across all worlds as well. Achievement been stuck at 25% since 2016 when I earned the 250 km.

Edit: it just popped so you can still get it if your tracker ingame is broken.

I can't believe nobody has pointed out or even realised that a mini bikes speed is based on the engine quality. I upgraded my engine from 100 to 250 and the speed pretty much doubled.

Faulty - 1km / 215 Seconds
Poor - 1km / 150 Seconds
Good - 1km / 120 Seconds
Fine - 1km / 100 Seconds
Great - 1km / 85 Seconds
Flawless - 1km / 75 Seconds"

These are the speeds per grades

Was that on PC? I upgraded my engine to 600 and the speed has remained the same, searching online led me to believe the engine quality makes no difference to speed as the consoles can't render fast enough. (Though it's hard to tell what versions have what perks/issues).

However, I'm currently testing how much more efficient the engine is and it appears to last much, much longer before running out of fuel. Looks like 40 minutes of circling compared to about 25 minutes previously.

A full tank appears to be exactly 2,000 gas for just under 20km.

A warning to people going for this, keep all the fuel and fuel components on you. If the game crashes there's a chance it will corrupt the place you're in. So ideally have a backup base where you keep other things or have q place you can afk walk that isn't your home because you'll lose whatever isn't on you.

This achievement appears to be a bit glitchy. I have two game/saves active - one that I've done most of the achievements on as a valid play thru with zombies. That file has 497 KM logged on it. I have a second file that I used a rubber band to walk in circles with no zombies in a house. That file has 505 KM on it now. I've also played a few other saves for the MP achievements, etc. Still no achievement despite being able to go into both saves and see that I'm over 1000 KM between the two. Going to keep the walking file going towards 1000 KM and see when/if it pops.

Edit: popped at 537 KM so needed roughly 1035 KM between the two files for it to trigger.

This cheevo is cumulative across all your games - mine popped during a 200+ day single player game at 863 KM . . . means that all those other MP & SP games were adding to this total.

While the minibike is certainly the quickest route to the achievement, it also requires you to have a large stockpile of gas on hand and actively be playing the game at all times.

If you're looking for something a little more automated, binding your control sticks together (ideally with a rubber band) facing inward will force your character to move in a very small circle, but it's just enough movement that it registers on your "KM Traveled" bar.

Your travel gains will be slow as Christmas but you also won't need to be present either. Turn off zombie spawns, fill up your health and water bar, and ideally have the hunger and thirst perks before attempting this. Put your character somewhere safe and have at it. Just check back every so often to make sure they haven't starved to death and you should be making progress.

This in all honesty is the one achievement that pushes the completion time into the hundreds of hours, otherwise, if you are willing to do the duplication glitch for split screen, you can get every achievement in this game within 70-90 hours. 1000 kilometers is an insane distance. After 15+ hours of minibike driving, along with the distance I covered through normal play, I'm only at 540 kilometers currently. I've discovered every road and every trail in fact on the map doing it.

All I can really say is stock up on gasoline and gas drums, duplicate if you are willing, and watch something to make the grind less tedious. Since you need to eat, drink, and refill on gasoline you can't just rubber band the controller over night.

This achievement will make you hate the game but just grind your teeth and make the best of it.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
If the game crashes while you on the minibike then, well... You're screwed because your minibike will be deleted. Simple as that. It doesn't just bump you off, it doesn't revert you to on foot from your last save, the game will just make the bike disappear. Regardless if you are like me and have all 550+ quality parts you'll have to make a bike. So don't have any important items on the bike and be ready to make 15 or so bikes at any time. Make your life easy and duplicate the parts so you don't need to spend two hours getting the parts to rebuild a new bike.

Hey guys my method is a little time on it early but if you can get it to this point it’s a lot more smoother for this grind.

First obviously you would want to craft the mini bike, requiring obviously the book “mini bikes for dumbsh*ts” the mini bike chassis, handles, seat, wheels, battery and engine I believe.

Next if you know the co op duplicate glitch you are going to want to duplicate a lot fuel you’ve found from bashing cars previously, and even duplicate all those mini bike parts before you build it (so you have spares incase you lose yours) also have a ton of food and water for that will still drop over time and you’ll need to keep an eye on this.

METHOD: Once you have the mini bike with 100% fuel and a whole chest spare, drive to an open field near your base, that’s mostly flat land, clear out trees and rocks until there is nothing that will hit you, hop on the mini bike and now you now want to put an elastic band, around your left toggle and pull it so it’s aimed facing top left. Loop it back under your controller so it’s in a spot where it will keep driving automatically without you interfering. Finally just let it drive around in circles while you watch a movie or play on your phone until the gas runs out, a full tank of 100% took me 38 minutes and got me up 17km so rinse repeat, probably one of the faster methods out unless you want to run or mindlessly drive the whole thing.

At the time of writing this guide, I'm at 642.83 KM out of 1,000 KM. But, I wanted to write this now to save you some time when trying to complete 7 Days to Die.

I'll start off by saying, the mini-bike is your best friend when doing this. Even with the mini-bike, the first 120.88KM took me a whopping 4 hours and 26 minutes(266 minutes), which, when you crunch the numbers, means I was getting 0.45KM/minute. At 0.45KM/minute you'll only get 27.22 KM/hour and a grand total of nearly 37 hours of driving around to get 1,000KM.

So what does this mean?

It's going to take you a long time to do this, and if you haven't looked into this games' other achievements, it isn't the only grind. So here's my advice:

1. Start a single player world on Navezgane
-you can't duplicate(which I'm not sure even works anymore)
-but, you can work towards "Nearly Immortal" for surviving for 1250 minutes
-Loot Respawn Time: 5
-24 hour cycle: 10

2. Stockpile meat stews and goldenrod tea
-Start a potato farm as soon as possible
-Kill every animal you see for raw meat.
-Grab corn at the corn field(900N, 800E)
-Grab snow and glass jars, to make the water needed for the tea and stew
-Pick up any goldenrod you see, start a farm

3. Collect parts for the mini-bike
-Refer to Strategy One's walkthrough for what's needed
-Also check the various gas stations around the map for their fuel

4. If you want, put enemy spawning to 150% and go for zombie kills while collecting your materials. Just keep in mind, you run a higher risk of dying and needing to restart your progress towards "Nearly Immortal"

Once you have the mini-bike parts, make sure enemy spawning is disabled.
EDIT- According to DefiantZero, due to recent updates, turning zombies off may still keep zombies throughout your map. However, there still won't be a massive wave of zombies every 7 days.
With all of this ready, you can begin driving around, but don't drive just anywhere. With no clothes on, I drove in and out of the rainy, burnt down biome and the sunny, grassy biome while stopping by the gas stations for fuel every 5 days. This was is an attempt to keep my temperature below 30 degrees as much as possible. Doing this resulted in very short amounts of time(15 minutes or so) between meat stews. In just 400KM of doing this, I went from 108 wellness to the maximum 200.

Since 400KM is 14.7 hours using the figures from above, you may have already popped "Nearly Immortal"

Now, you have the option.
1. You can turn zombie spawns to 150% and kill as many zombies as you can with the remaining 600KM, by stopping and beating down every zombie you drive by

or

2. Keep zombie spawns off and do these two achievements separately.

Before coming up with this guide, I killed 2500 zombies before I went for the mini-bike and the 1,000KM, but killing zombies at the same time as the insane distance, may save you time in the long run. I believe it took me about 21 hours to kill 2500 zombies, and all I was doing was killing zombies.

So, there you have it. Following this guide, I believe, can save you 20-40 hours, or even more, of playtime, compared to doing all of these time consuming achievements separately. I hope this helps!

Note: Mini bikes are very glitchy and seem to disappear from your worlds upon crashing or just quitting the game normally. So i do advise you to have spare parts to be able to craft another one just in-case. Also the Mini Bike is not required for the trophy. It's just recommended.

This is another grind you'll have to prepare for. Traveling 1000 Kilometers or 1,000,000 Meters will take some time and effort. This trophy, along with the other two grindy trophies, will likely be your last to unlock your platinum. It's best to pair this trophy with Nearly Immortal and use the same save.

Crafting yourself a Mini Bike or two is an absolute must if you want to get this trophy in a timely manner. Distance is tracked across multiple saves, meaning you will be able to join friends and travel 800 kilometers while playing on their servers and get the other 200 kilometers in a single player game and still be awarded the trophy. Below I've outlined what you will need in order to craft a mini bike and how to assemble it:-

25 Minute AFK Distance Grind

After you have your mini bike and enough fuel, find an open field area with no rivers or hazards anywhere near you. Next you will need to use a rubber band or something similar to wrap around facing to the right. Doing this while sitting on the Mini Bike will make you ride in a circle. You will have to come back every 25 minutes and refuel if you had 100% on your fuel gauge, this is the approximate time it takes to run to 0%. It's also best to disable zombies from spawning while you do this to ensure you're not killed.

Materials Needed:

  • 1x Mini Bikes for Dumbshits Magazine
  • 1x Minibike Handlebars
  • 1x Minibike Chassis
  • 1x Minibike Seat
  • 1x Minibike Wheels
  • 1x Lead Car Battery
  • 1x Small Car Engine

Prerequisites:

  • Reading the Mini Bikes for Dumbshits Magazine

Looting for and Assembling the Mini Bike Parts:

Three of the items required for the Mini Bike need to be crafted and the other four items need to be looted from either cars or auto mobile shops located throughout the world. There is also a prerequisite before you can even craft the craftable pieces needed. Finding and reading the "Mini Bikes for Dumbshits" Magazine isn't hard if you have carefully looted every building and shop you came across. If you're struggling to get this magazine change your 24 hour cycle setting located in the modded options section to "10" and have air drops set to "24" so you will be getting an air drop every ten minutes and a high chance of getting this magazine. Please see the Nearly Immortal trophy for more information on this.

After you have obtained and read the magazine you'll unlock the ability to craft the Mini Bike Chassis, Seat & Handlebars. The Chassis can only be crafted in a forge because it requires Iron and Clay to be smelted. You're going to want to loot every Sedan and take each one apart using a wrench to get two of the other items required for the Mini Bike. Also, be on the prowl for tires that will be set out alongside roads and near houses. These are your Mini Bike wheels and can be looted by hitting them with a stone ax. If you're still in need of a wrench they can either be crafted after finding the schematic or easily found in town houses and gas stations.

Once you have a wrench, approaching a car with it equipped and holding down will allow you to start taking it apart and receive material like iron, leather, car batteries, or even the engine. It may take a few cars to get the engine or the battery but this is currently the only way of getting these items. Taking Sedans apart will also give you gas cans - this is your fuel, so don't pass these up as you'll need a lot of it! Once you have all the pieces of the Mini Bike and have read the magazine then you're ready to assemble your Bike. Make sure you have every item in your inventory before you begin:-

Start by placing the Mini Bike chassis anywhere on the ground outside. Once the chassis is placed on the ground properly approach it and hold down to interact with it. A menu will be brought up along with your inventory. Start dragging and dropping the correct parts in the right places. The basket and flashlight are optional modifications and aren't required to ride it. Once everything is there just hit the close option near the bottom of the menu and you will see the mini bike created in front of you of done correctly. You will now have to fuel the Mini Bike in order to ride it. Hopefully while you where taking cars apart you collect the gas cans as you should have been getting tons of them. These serve as fuel for the mini bike.

The absolute fastest way is to use the Teleport Command from the console. Using buff god will make you invincible to radiation and everything else.

Load into any game and press F1
Type out or copy and paste

buff god
teleport 0 0 10000000

You will teleport and the game will complain and say there was an error in red text and then teleport you into a freefall. You will get more than 1000 Kilometers just from that and instantly finish this achievement.

Teleport one more time and you will also get to the bottom of the world for one additional achievement and stop the freefall.

This achievement is very straightforward but will require a decent amount of time to unlock. The achievement requires you to travel 1000 kilometers on land. Whether it’s a glitch or something the developers intended, the game doesn’t track distance traveled by swimming.

While exploring you might find the blueprint for the Minibike, which will help you immensely when traveling around the map, since even the slowest bike is still a good bit faster than the player can run. Also with the bike you don’t have to worry about riding at night since you can simply outrun any zombies that comes after you. It is worth noting, however, that running into zombies with the bike will damage it. This achievement is cumulative, so you don’t have to worry about trying to do all of it on one character. After you have traveled 1000KM, the achievement will unlock.

To boost, you will need a moped and a lot of gasoline (you can get GAS BARREL - BARRELS with gasoline). We choose a large, flat space (can be built), sit on the moped, tilt the left stick, insert a piece of paper and go about our business. My engine was level 500, with a tank of 1800 units - enough for 30 minutes. The tank size can be found by hovering the cursor over the engine and clicking (tank size value). Once every half hour, turn a barrel into fuel cans (1 barrel = 600 cans) and refuel the moped. In an hour, a little more than 30 km.
Don't forget about food and water if you combine it with the Nearly Immortal trophy

It all depends on the engine.
I had a 577 level engine. The tank holds 1962 liters, enough for 45 minutes. During this time, the moped travels almost 20 km.
In principle, that’s what it’s all about, but you’ll have to fuel up less often, which is more convenient.
Conclusion: try to install the best engine.
