How to unlock the The Picture of Good Health achievement in 7 Days to Die - Definitive Guide

This solution is going to be a bit lengthy, but in it I will tell you everything, good and bad, that I have learned the hard way so you can avoid doing the same and therefore save yourself quiet a bit of time. I'm also going to assume you're fairly familiar with the game and crafting and all of that. Also, if you want to know what, in my opinion, is the best strategy for focusing on just raising wellness, be sure to read down past the second edit. I know it's a lot to read, but once you've read it all, you'll be set to either use my final method or make one of your own using the info given here.

First off, to make your life easier I'd say do this in single player and turn off zombie spawns in the options. (Also a good way to work towards the 20 hours without dying in SP.) Also choose the Navezgane map, not random generated. On top of that it is also helpful to change all of the settings in your favor. Such as maxing the loot percentage, minimizing the time for the loot to respawn etc etc.

Now let's begin. I would highly recommend using the house that I did for your base of operations. It's close to a good number of resources we will be using, and it's fairly centered in the map. The coordinates are 930 N 550 E. There's a river nearby to the south for water and a massive corn field behind the house which is going to come in handy. Also, collect any and all painkillers and beer you find. I'll explain why later.

I'll start with the food side first. As coffebeanz mentioned in his guide, the survivor state does increase the wellness you gain, but also decreases how often you get hungry. So it's kind of a double edged sword. If you max it like I did you get 100% bonus to wellness gain and a 50% decrease to hunger. So I guess it's a good trade off, but you'll be waiting longer to eat. So I guess this is up to your preference. Also, the bacon and eggs is a good place to start but your end goal for food is meat stew. It gives almost double the wellness as bacon and eggs, so once you get the resources rolling in for it you'll see the once precious eggs as trash.

The ingredients for meat stew are raw meat (go figure), so hunt any animals you find, bottled water (start hording glass jars in any form you find them. Or you can craft them in a furnace.) Corn (plenty behind the house) and a potato. The potato is the tricky one as it's a bit of a rare find. This is where patience will come into play. You may get lucky and find a potato or potato seed in a random place, but if not the place to look is the shamway food mart. There is one at 190 W 1850 N. Theres another one that is a bit of a hike if you don't mind making the trip. It's in a town and it's around 1750 N 1600 W. Youll be traveling through desert if you go to this one so dress accordingly.

Once you're in the store you'll see large wooden crates around that you can't interact with. Break it open and it will reveal a box you CAN interact with. These are where you want to look and hopefully find a potato or potato seed. If you find potato make sure to turn them into seeds. If you're unlucky and don't find any, come back later and check again. I think the shortest loot respawn you can set is 5 in game days. BE SURE TO EMPTY THE BOXES, even if it's stuff you don't want, otherwise new loot won't spawn in them.

Once you have a potato seed(s), clear area in the corn field, use a hoe to till some ground, and plant them. About 2 real time hours later you'll have a potato plant that yields 3 potatos. Be sure to always turn some into more seeds and replant them. If your patient you can have LOTS of plants after a few rounds. Once you're stocked on meat,, corn, taters, and bottled water then you're good to go with the food side of boosting wellness.

Now for the drinking part. This one you can abuse a bit. This is where the pain killers and beer I told you to collect will help. The other two things you need to stock up on are goldenrod flowers (yellow), which can be turned into seeds and farmed, and crysanthemum flowers. (Red) These ones can't be turned into seeds.

Both of these flowers can be brewed into tea. The teas don't necessarily have a high wellness boost, but every little bit counts, especially if you drink it every time you're thirsty instead of plain water. It also helps when you can abuse it. How you ask? By being a pill head alcholic.

While you painfully have to wait for your hunger to go down on its own to reap the benefits of your stew, you can force your thirst down so you can drink tea rapid fire. Every time you take a pain killer, it decreases your hydration by 5. So take a pill, drink some tea, take a pill, drink some tea.... rinse and repeat.

The same can be done with beer and tea, but this one has a limit until it hurts you. Once you hit the point where you're drunk, STOP. Dont get this confused with "buzzed." Buzzed is fine and you can drink about 8 beers or so before you're drunk. If you keep going and get "sick drunk," then you will actually lose wellness over time. Once you're sober again you can continue.

Another little boost you run across is vitamins. They are green pills found in medicine cabinets and shelves in places like "pop n pills." So just eat those whenever you find them.

Once you hit 150 wellness don't be alarmed when the same stuff doesn't increase your wellness as quickly. The requirements increase as the level does. So unfortunately it will slow down at that point.

And that's that. Follow these steps and you should hit 200 a bit more quickly than the trial and error I went through to learn all of this. Also IMPORTANT to know, because there's no zombies doesn't mean death isn't possible I died too many times and every time you do you lose 10 wellness, which is a good chunk of time lost. So I have 2 tips to help avoid this.... Stay away from bears if you don't have a gun, and if you come across a military outpost, STEER CLEAR. There are landmines surrounding it and a sudden explosive death out of nowhere is frustrating as hell. Trust me. You can recognize these bases as a group of tents with a guard tower and sandbags surrounding it. They are usually in a square formation.

Edit: underoath fade brought this hepful tip to my attention regarding hunger, which I'm thankful for because I was not aware of it myself. "To decrease hunger fast go to a snow biome and get to 30 degrees (Status effect Freezing) this increases the decrease rate for hunger allowing you to eat any food but preferably a Meat Stew every 2-3 minutes. Be careful not to go down to 0 degrees otherwise you will die of Hypothermia, so just stay near a cabin and walk inside when you get close to 5-10ish degrees."
To add to that I'd say another way of an escape from the cold aside from hiding in a cabin would to maybe be on the edge of the biome then just run to the warmer climate when needed.

Edit #2: ok, so I tested out the freezing stay dropping hunger and it does work. Once you hit 30° you get the freezing status which lowers hunger by 1 every 10 seconds. However, the meat stew has a warming effect that lasts 3 minutes, which isn't a problem as far as negating the freezing if you have a bandana and sunglasses or a cowboy/plant fiber hat. It IS a problem as far as hunger goes though. Not only does it warm you, but it keeps your hunger ftom dropping for those 3 minutes as well. So if you want to use the freezing strategy for consuming good more quickly (and it is indeed a good strategy, thanks underoath) then use grilled or charred meat. I'll explain why in the next paragraph.

So, using a combination of everything learned, here is, in my eyes, the ultimate way to go about getting this achievement.
Go to the snow biome. Stay close enough to the warmer biome so you can make it back without freezing to death, but far enough in to lower your temp to 30 and below. Bring lots of grilled or charred meat and goldenrod tea. (The red tea has a cooling effect that works like the warming effect of stew and keeps you frI'm getting thirsty while active. Not that it matters in this strategy as the meat drops hydration anyway, but a useful bit of info anyway.) Lower your temperature to freezing, which starts at 30. Use cowboy hat/bandana/sunglasses if needed. Once you're freezing, your hunger will drop much more quickly over time. Eat a grilled meat. This will make you thirsty. Drink the goldenrod tea. Both the meat and tea raise wellness. Wait until your hunger drops, repeat as necessary.

All of that being said, I think this guide is fully complete now. I'll leave all of the information in here that way you can use whatever strategy you want or a combination of all of them depending on what you're doing. E.G. exploring or building or whatever or just aiming to raise wellness.
Hope this guide helps. Any issues with it, just shoot me a message or comment on it and I'll address the problem if possible. Good luck achievement hunters.

Amazing guide ThePaleHorseman i'd also like to add to decrease hunger fast go to a snow biome and get to 30 degrees (Status effect Freezing) this increases the decrease rate for hunger allowing you to eat any food but preferably a Meat Stew every 2-3 minutes. Be careful not to go down to 0 degrees otherwise you will die of Hypothermia, so just stay near a cabin and walk inside when you get close to 5-10ish degrees.

Thanks guys. I'll add those to the solution. Especially the cold weather thing. Didn't know that bit as I always tried to keep myself warm.

Just wanted to add that in the latest patch they did something that messed up the corn. All of the corn in the fields is yellow now and doesn't give you anything but plant fibers. So now to get corn for the stew you need to find it in loot. Haven't found any yet myself, but I haven't been to the food marts yet. Will update if I find any.

Edit: Didn't find any at the store, but managed to find some seeds in a random trash pile.

Stay away from the barren looking areas, I've died 3 times trying to find the treasure from quests. Get lots of meat and eggs, those plus the survivor perk, give 1 whole wellness point.

I did everything listed here but I chose to use Stage 3 Hypothermia instead. Your food decays the fastest at that point which allows you to eat Charred/Grilled Meat and drink Goldenrod/Red Tea the fastest, which will lessen the time to attain this once you are ready to start this. The thing is you will lose health every few seconds but that can be counteracted with First Aid Bandages or Med Kits.
Note: I did have the max Wellness boost and Food Decay.

1. Play on whatever difficulty you wish, just have enemy spawning turned off.

2. Stock up on Charred/Grilled Meat and Goldenrod/Red Tea. I personally had 50 meat and 50 tea on me. Also have Med Kits or First Aid Bandages. I personally only used Med Kits and for me a stack of 5 was enough.

3. Find a snow biome.
3.1 if it is snowing (Where you get significant wetness just for being outside) then you are golden. To reach 0 degrees you have to be around at least 80% wetness, even while naked. I always chose to be near some sort of building that had a campfire in it so once I was done I could warm up and leave the biome easily without being slowed.
3.2 If it is not snowing then you have to be lucky and have a body of water close to the snow biome to get at least around 80% Wetness. Once you take a swim you hop back in the biome and freeze. Either that or wait until it snows.

4. Just stand out in the cold, get to 0 Degrees, and just sit in the menus. Stare at your food and eat whenever it drops and drink immediately afterwards. Keep an eye on your health and use a Med Kit/First Aid Bandage whenever you drop enough health to be fully healed. (My Med Kits healed for 57 so I always used one whenever I dropped by 60 health.)

This method saves you a lot of time if you are stocked well enough to do it.

The fastest way I've been getting my Wellness is up save your skill points and put them towards 'The Survivor' skill. There are 5 levels at 10 skill points each so 50 points will be needed to reach the max skill. Once I did that, I ate nothing but bacon and eggs. Once I was at level 5 for the Survivor Skill, I was gaining about 1 Wellness point every time I ate. I haven't gotten to 200 yet, but currently at 137 and rising fast. Hope this helps!

As of 6/25/2020 this works proven by myself and ikilledbecka.

Note: This WILL NOT work split-screen!

1. Create a Private Game on NAVEZGANE with zombie spawns disabled and invite the person you plan on duplicating with.
2. Collect at least 1 vitamin most commonly found in Pop-N-Pills. One can be found in the city on the east side of the map (645 N 1150 E).
3. Craft 2 stone axes.
4. Collect some wood and create 5 secure storage chests. Use the duplication method below to duplicate any wood, extra secure storage chests, or axes you need.

Now for the duplication process:
1. Keep a chest somewhere to hold excess vitamins.
2. Host places 5 secure storage chests in a straight line and breaks the lock on each turning them into storage chests that your partner can open.
3. Host then stores up to 5 stacks or 250 vitamins total into a single chest, anymore than that and it may not work.
4. The 2nd player now takes each stack of the item inside the chest (Do not loot all (LS), only press RS on the individual items) and puts it in their inventory. Keep the menu open and let the host know to break the chest. Once destroying the chest a bag will pop out with the items copied. It will take approx. 750 or 15 stacks of vitamins for each player to get the achievement.

If you'd like to follow a YouTube video here is the one that taught me the method, credit goes to TDG297 for making it:

This achievement is probably the most complicated one in the game. The reason for this is because there is only a few ways to raise your wellness. You can raise your wellness by consuming items like cooked meats, tea, or vitamins. When you make a new character, your wellness will start out at “level” 100, and to increase it you will have to eat enough food to increase your wellness “xp”.

The amount of xp required between levels from 100-150 is only 2xp per level, and the xp required per level for 151-200 is 4. As you can’t gorge yourself in this game, you can only eat when your hunger is below 100% (except vitamins, these can be eaten at any time) and depending on how many points you have in the survivor perk, could take a while for your hunger to drain. However, this game does have a debuff that you can use to your advantage to make your hunger drain faster. If you can find a freezing biome in your game, just stand there until you start to freeze. When your body temperature is between 11-31 degrees, your hunger will deplete faster. Just simply eat food to keep your hunger above 100% and you will eventually unlock this achievement.

There are quite a few things you can use to raise your wellness in 7 Days To Die. Each new character you create will automatically start with a wellness of "100". This is basically your health and stamina located in the bottom left corner marked as a red and blue bar. By keeping yourself healthy and hydrated with the right foods you will begin to gain wellness. Also, avoid dying and being hit by zombies as both will result in loosing your hard earned wellness. Backing up your save often is recommended just in case you accidentally lower your wellness somehow. Below I've outline the only foods and drinks that will raise your wellness. Also there is an "easy" method of raising it quickly if you would like to take advantage of it.

Best Foods In Order:

  • Meat Stew - Wellness Gained 1.6%
  • Bacon & Eggs - Wellness Gained 1%
  • Charred Meat - Wellness Gained 0.8%
  • Grilled Meat - Wellness Gained 0.8%
  • Boiled Meat - Wellness Gained 0.8%
  • Blue Berry Pie - Wellness Gained 0.8%
  • Vitamins - Wellness Gained .5%
  • Corn Bread - Wellness Gained 0.4%
  • Jar Of Honey - Wellness Gained 0.4%
  • Vegetable Stew - Wellness Gained 0.1%
  • Boiled Egg - Wellness Gained 0.32%
  • Corn on The Cob- Wellness Gained 0.08%

Drinks:

  • Goldenrod Tea - Wellness Gained 0.02%
  • Red Tea - Wellness Gained 0.02%

The foods and drinks listed above are not the only foods and drinks in 7 Days To Die. They are however the only ones that will give you wellness when you consume them. Any food found that is not on the list above is strictly a "filler" food meaning you will only gain hunger from them not wellness. So, you will want to be doing a lot of hunting to get meat and looting for glass jars for the teas. If you are well stocked on either of the foods above, preferably meats and teas, you can take advantage of a method of raising your wellness quickly.

Raising Wellness from 100 to 200 in 15 minutes

In order to raise your wellness extremely fast you will need to have lots of vitamins. A little over 600 to be exact. It may sound extreme and it is if you're not using the duplication glitch mentioned in the roadmap.

Firstly, you need find at least 1 vitamin in order to duplicate it by searching hospitals, supply drops, or the plagued nurses corpses. After you have it, duplicate around 650 of them. This will take roughly 5 minutes. It takes 15 - 20 minutes for one player to eat them all and raise your wellness to 200.

To boost this trophy you will need a lot of Golden rod tea and Painkillers. The first can be obtained by collecting yellow plants, growing in the garden, and the second from falling support boxes. We drink yellow tea until the thirst scale is 100%, then we take a pill, the thirst scale drops to 95%, we drink tea again, take a pill, etc. It’s convenient and quick to do all this by moving things to the belt. For 10 Golden rod tea drinks, you get 1 well-being point. Prepared Meat stew also helps in this matter.

You can use vitamins (green tablets)
For one health point, you need to eat 4 tablets. After 150 health points, you already need 8 tablets.

Vitamins are an extremely rare thing, but effective. Although they can be farmed by running into the POP-N-PILLS store (local pharmacy) during the loot respawn cooldown.
Meat is the best way to raise HP, but in my session the only living creatures running around were rabbits and chickens, and with the sharp camera controls in this game it’s problematic to kill them. I had to push this little thing on a moped, if possible. In 20 days in the game I saw only 1 deer and I regretted it...

In general, the easiest and most affordable way is eggs! Find a nest, and there are plenty of them in the game, the main thing is that there are eggs there)) make scrambled eggs and you’re done. 6 eggs at the beginning and 12 eggs after 150 HP. Can be combined with drinks like Red Tea and Golden Rod Tea.

Pay attention to the WELLNESS indicator in food.
