How to unlock the Handfull of pockets achievement in A Plague Tale: Innocence - Definitive Guide
Here's a video showing it working:
I take no credit in the making of this video.
NOTE: When I did this on Xbox, I had made it to Chapter 14, then replayed Chapters 10-13 hoping to keep my upgrades. When I reached Chapter 15, my Chapter 10 upgrades were gone.
However, when I did it on PC, I used the glitch to complete the upgrades right when I got to Chapter 10 (through Chapter select obviously), and I was able to keep them for the rest of the game, allowing me to save my precious crafting materials for my weapons.
So try to go for these achievements before completing the chapter.
If you missed this on your first shot, a full second play through is not required. Many people recommend starting at chapter 9 and playing on, but in general just explore and scavenge as much as you can.
One important note - starting a mission via chapter selection will start you with the inventory and upgrades you had when you FIRST completed the previous mission. For example, if on your first play through, you raced through Chapter 3 and started Chapter 4 with 1 piece of fabric, then did Chapter Select to re-play Chapter 3, this time ending with 12 fabric - it does not replace your original "state" - if at any point you chose Chapter Select on Chapter 3 again, you're starting with your original 1 fabric. This is the case for any Chapter you select - whatever you started that Chapter with originally is what you'll get.
You can continue replaying the game without any issues, but if know that you didn't do much scavenging on your first run through, either plan on doing chapter selection from an EARLY mission once, and re-playing from that point forward (Chapter 3 is the earliest you start collecting crafting materials), or bite the bullet and start a new save slot.
4 of 6 ALCHEMY upgrades were done too, because INSTRUMENTS requires mostly ammo materials and those are plentiful.
This glitch still works to upgrade everything
If you go to chapter select and choose chapter 10 once the words for chapter 10s loading screen come up press and hold the trackpad. Continue holding as you load in and your crafting menu should be up once you load in. Press the right bumper and your ammo crafting should come up plus your weapons and equipment crafting will be up. Continue holding rb but you can release the trackpad. Move the selector off rock and begin crafting but it will count towards your equipment as well. Scroll down with the arrows on the controller and once you get them all to level three the trophy will pop
The upgrade function for Amicia's equipment is unlocked during Chapter 2 upon a brief tutorial. All nine upgrades below are required to fully upgrade the equipment.
Pocket:
- Tier 1: Holds up to 12 materials of each type (5 Sulphur, 3 Fabric, 1 Tool)
- Tier 2: holds up to 16 materials of each type (10 Sulphur, 6 Fabric, 2 Leather, 1 Tool)
- Tier 3: holds up to 22 materials of each type (16 Sulphur, 10 Fabric, 3 Leather, 1 Tool)
Ammunition Bag:
- Tier 1: Holds up to 10 ammunitions of each type (6 Alcohol, 4 Leather, 1 Tool)
- Tier 2: Holds up to 14 ammunitions of each type (11 Alcohol, 5 Leather, 4 Cord, 1 Tool)
- Tier 3: Holds up to 20 ammunitions of each type (16 Alcohol, 7 Leather, 8 Cord, 1 Tool)
Attirail:
- Tier 1: Running and dodging make less noise (5 Salpeter, 5 Fabric, 1 Tool)
- Tier 2: Amicia no longer needs a workshop to upgrade her equipment (11 Salpeter, 6 Fabric, 3 Leather, 1 Tool)
- Tier 3: Amicia no longer needs tools to upgrade her equipment (18 Salpeter, 9 Fabric, 4 Leather, 1 Tool)
It is possible to upgrade everything without replaying chapters. The general rule is any upgrade, be it the sling or equipment, should be performed as soon as it can be done. However, if multiple upgrade choices are available or you are just a few materials short, consider upgrading Pocket first, and then Attirail. Expanding the material capacities means reducing the occasions of leaving behind materials from the environment due to not having enough capacity to hold them; no longer needing a workshop and tools means upgrades can be done more readily.
Among all the materials, sulphur, salpeter and alcohol are abundant; fabric, leather and cords come moderately, and tools are the rarest. So it is highly recommended to always explore the environment thoroughly to find as many materials as possible. In addition, unless absolutely necessary, avoid crafting ammunitions which require fabric and leather to save them for sling and/or equipment upgrades.
