2nd controller is no go. and for the life of me I can't get 'continue' to work either! what do you press?

You CAN use a second controller as 2P. Once a fight has started, press the option button on the 2P controller, it goes back to the character selection screen and two players/controllers are now playing. Just set the 2nd controller aside and watch the achievements pop! Note, this only seems to work for the first 5 achievements.

Are you kidding me? You sign in a second controller and then you push the button that is promted on the right top of the screen to join the game... just like an arcade maschine... by the way that is what most of the guides for the aca ng fighting games will tell you...

Folks are finding they can't get the game to even recognise the second controller. I've not found a definitive reason. Suggestions from other guides suggest using the same type of controller ( ie both bluetooth new style or both non bluetooth old style) and no perihiphals like chat pads etc.
I've also tried no account signed in. A guest account, a second gold account. I've connected 2nd pad before launching game and connected it in game. No dice. The only tangible clue thus far is the " press Y to switch profile" which will allow you to select the second controller account. But then the first controller stops working. Feels like the game doesn't even support 2 player local vs. I will continue to investigate..
