How to unlock the Cutting The Cord achievement in ACE COMBAT 7: SKIES UNKNOWN - Definitive Guide

This achievement is for completing the seventeenth mission of the game and can be obtained on any difficulty.

Here's my playthrough of Mission 17 Homeward.

Aircraft used: F-22A
Special weapon: 8AAM (8 air to air missiles)
Score required: None
Time limit: First section 20:00 / second section 10:00 (Normal)

This is a fairly straight forward mission, head inland and fly close to any radar contacts until you can confirm if they're hostile. Contacts appear yellow until confirmed and then blue if they're an ally or green if an enemy. You only need to take out the green enemies marked with a red TGT. Keep scouring the island and eliminating hostiles as you find them.

When you've taken out enough enemies, a group of bombers will appear from the east. These need to be destroyed quickly before they reach land and drop their bombs - if they do, the mission is over. After the bombers are eliminated, continue destroying the remaining targets until a cut scene starts.

The second section is simply to destroy two aerial supply ships. Easy enough, just don't hang about. When you catch up to the first one, fire all of your missiles until destroyed and then move on to the second. This took 4 normal missiles or a full lock 8AAM.

Tip: I played through a couple of hours of multiplayer, gaining enough MRP (in game currency) to purchase the F-15E which made this a lot easier and more fun than the starting F-16C. Around Mission 12, I had enough to purchase the F-22A which is the most capable aircraft I've found so far. The currency, planes and most part upgrade unlocks work across multiplayer / singleplayer but some upgrades are exclusive to multiplayer. You can also go into 'Free Mission' to replay for some extra cash.

Thanks for watching!
