How to unlock the Tearing Through The Dark achievement in ACE COMBAT 7: SKIES UNKNOWN - Definitive Guide
This achievement is for completing the fourteenth mission of the game and can be obtained on any difficulty.
Here's my playthrough of Mission 14 Cape Rainy Assault on normal.
Aircraft used: F-22A
Special weapon: 8AAM (8 air to air missiles)
Score required: None
Time limit: Refuelling 3:00 / Main mission 20:00 (Normal)
The mission is broken down into two parts. The first in a canyon and the second is an assault on a base.
Take it slowly through the canyon and avoid the search lights - they're an immediate mission failure. As long as you take your time this is easy enough.
After the canyon, your goal is to attack the base. Take out the air transports and helicopters by the hangers (to the left and right of the runway) before they can take off. If you see any ground vehicles, such as tanks, eliminate them as soon as you can to avoid your guys on the ground taking damage.
Tip: I played through a couple of hours of multiplayer, gaining enough MRP (in game currency) to purchase the F-15E which made this a lot easier and more fun than the starting F-16C. Around Mission 12, I had enough to purchase the F-22A which is the most capable aircraft I've found so far. The currency, planes and most part upgrade unlocks work across multiplayer / singleplayer but some upgrades are exclusive to multiplayer. You can also go into 'Free Mission' to replay for some extra cash.
