How to unlock the Legendary achievement in AFL Live - Definitive Guide
The only real difference, apart from a couple of rule changes (pretty minor) and the fact the regular season has no Supergoal rule, is that the regular season sees you play 22 games plus finals.
Now the first thing to remember is that you don't have to, obviously, win every game in order to get the achievement. What I did was whip through about 15 or so games quickly, winning each one, and in doing so ensuring I qualified for the finals (I actually finished in the top 4 on the ladder at the end of the home and away rounds).
The last 7 games I mucked around a bit. I played lesser players to ensure I reduced the chances of one of my gun players getting injured, and I even "simmed" a couple of games - by that I mean I started the game, played for 30 seconds, paused it until the controller turned itself off, turned the controller back on and simply didn't select a team to control.
That meant the game played without my control for a while - leaving me free to do other things (as long as I "re-took" control of the game before any of the quarters ended).
Made the finals, played them and won them.
Many of the tips I gave in the solution for the achievement above still apply, as the difficulty level remains the same.
Again, choose a good team. I chose Collingwood - as a Richmond supporter, it pains me to say my beloved Tigers just aren't quite good enough to get through and win games on Legend difficulty on a consistent basis.
Collingwood have a good ruckman, a couple of good solid tall forwards and a good defensive six.
Other good teams to choose - Geelong, Fremantle (and their giant ruckman) and Hawthorn. Of course other teams can win, but maximise your chances to win by picking a good team.
Really - the rest of the tips are pretty much common sense.
1 - Tag the best opposition midfielder, and perhaps their best forward.
2 - Ensure your tactics are set up to make your ruckman attacking so he runs forward. Very handy.
3 - Tactics should be on "balanced" for your midfielders and the like.
4 - The boundary line is your friend. Use it to reset play and create a stoppage when you are in trouble.
5 - Try and get simple shots at goal - hit up leading forwards and bomb to the hotspot 20 m out.
6 - Practice your spoiling till you can do it in your sleep.
7 - Tackle tackle tackle. Tackles force spillages and your teammates will get the ball and allow you to kick long to your forwards.
8 - Handball to space, kick the ball off the ground when being pursued - play good basic footy.
9 - Just smash the ball forward in the ruck. Nothing fancy. Winning the ruck allows you to belt the ball forward for your midfielders to run onto and, in turn, force forward.
As for injuries, I copped a few, but so did the opposition. In the end they even themselves out and as long as you have your structures and tactics right, you can cover the injured players until they return.
This in the second most time consuming achievement in the game. As it says, play on Legend with 20 minute quarters and extreme injuries turned on. Once again, no simulating, or you end up wasting a lot of time.
A few tips with this, Spoil! A Lot! The AI will always beat you in the air when it comes to a contest. Only go for the mark when you are a few metres ahead of the other player. If there is a contest, + to spoil, then run onto the ball. If you have enough room to kick the ball, do so, otherwise I recommend handballing and tacking until you have the room to kick.
You’ll only need 15+ wins from the season to make it into the finals, so there’s no need to exit the game if you are losing. When you do reach the finals however, if you’re going to lose, Exit and play again.
