How to unlock the Licence to Read achievement in Agatha Knife - Definitive Guide

This achievement unlocks when Agatha hands over photos of herself to the librarian and receives a library card. In order to trigger the requirement for a library card, Agatha must attempt to leave the library with a book. The librarian informs her she needs a library card with a photo that she must provide.

Detailed solution follows, targeted for gamers who intend to complete the game on one playthrough. It's also applicable to those using multiple playthroughs but a save file is not required:

When Agatha tries to leave the library with a book, the librarian informs her she needs a library card. Agatha must borrow a book after unlocking the following achievement:

Go to the photo booth to the left of the Butcher shop. Make a manual save before you interact with the photo booth. You make the manual save by pressing cn_Y to bring up the inventory, highlighting the pig USB memory stick, pressing cn_X, & following the prompts. Once you have made the manual save and before interacting with the photo booth, press cn_guide to bring up the XBox panel. Select the game and press cn_start. Choose quit. Relaunch the game. When the main menu comes up, select continue. Agatha will appear where she was when you made the save on the pig USB memory stick.

The purpose of this is to 'bank' a save in the cloud. To preserve this banked save, it is essential you do not exit the game until you have the achievement and have reverted to this banked save as will be explained later in this guide.

Press cn_Y to bring up your inventory. Highlight your cash and use it on the photo booth. After receiving your photos, head left back to the library. As soon as you're inside, press cn_Y to bring up your inventory. Highlight the photos & use them to interact with the librarian. During the conversation, you will receive a library card unlocking the achievement. It may take a couple of seconds to unlock. So, complete the conversation & wait until the achievement pops.

Some auto-saves will have occurred after you spent money at the photo booth. So, it is very important that you adhere to the following instructions to revert to your manual save. Press cn_guide

Press cn_start to bring up the 'Home' side panel. Go to your games and apps. Highlight Agatha Knife and press cn_start to bring up your options. DO NOT EXIT THE GAME. Select "manage game & game add-ons." This brings up a 'Manage' menu. Select the bottom choice, "saved data." You will see the game save files for one or more GamerTags. Select the saved file for your GamerTag and choose the left-most option, "Delete from Console." Make sure you only delete your save file from the console otherwise you will lose all your progress in the game. Once you delete the save from the console, it automatically quits. Relaunch the game. When the main menu comes up, select continue. Agatha will appear near the photo booth where she was when you made the save on the pig USB memory stick & before she spent money on photos.

Continue with the game. The logical choice is to go left to Nika's house and borrow her library card so you do not have to spend money on photos. If you have followed these steps you will not have voided the below achievement for not spending any money:

Very glad this solution is here as it'll save me a whole other playthrough. So a solid hour and a half at least of time saved. Thank you for putting the time and effort into this solution!

The format for the walkthrough of this game confused me with combining all of the separate playthrough options into one instead of separating them into different playthroughs. Because of this, I was left with this achievement and the achievement for not spending any money after I finished my first playthrough. This guide ensured that I wouldn't have to do a THIRD playthrough to get the last two achievements. Thank you. +1

Thanx. Appreciate the feedback. I hope you enjoyed the game in spite of a couple of the achievements being a little aggravating.

Will void 'The Richest Girl in the Cemetery' achievement. Do on different playthrough.

When you need to make a library card, use the money you get from the Piggy Bank on the photobooth next to the Butcher Shop. You should get ID Photos. Bring them back to the Librarian to make a library card.

Decision achievement, if you unlock this one you can't get "New Look" or "The Richest Girl in the Cemetery" in the same playthrough.

This one takes place when trying to get the Enigmarillion. If Agatha tries to leave the library with a book on her inventory, the librarian will inform her that she needs a library card, she can give us one, but needs a photo of Agatha. For this achievement we're going to come back with a photo.

First, go to the photo booth near the butcher store and use money on it, then pick up the photos.

Come back to the library and give the pictures to the librarian. Easy!

*MISSABLE*

After completing The Book of Books (20G) to get the Enigmarillion, you will try to leave the library but the woman will tell you that you need a library card. To unlock this achievement, you'll need money (refer to Payday (20G) for getting money).

With money and the trigger for a library card, received from trying to leave the library with a book, head to the photo booth just to the left of the butcher shop. Use money on the photo booth to take photos. Return to the library and give the photos to the woman at the front desk. She'll make you a library card and this achievement will unlock.
