How to unlock the Age of Empires achievement in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition - Definitive Guide

EDit:
Also need to own the DLC civs now apparently (see comments)

THANK YOU! I wish I could give you more than 1 thumbs up. My heart dropped when I had gone through all the civs and this didn't pop. Did one more game with Random and it popped.

Might also need to do them all in the same game mode. Quite a coincidence though that it popped for a few of us by doing also the random and full random

Looks like this now needs the two DLC civs as well even if you don't own the DLC. I got my last civ (Inca) and it didn't pop. Played one game each with random/full random/mirror just to double check, and it didn't pop. Bought the DLC, played one game each with Burgundians/Sicilians, and it popped.

Thanks @Peaches 518. I was wondering why it didn't just unlock for me. I was going to get the DLC anyway, so guess that should solve that...!

Did not work for me. TA needs to mark this as glitchy. We should not have to buy dlc for a base game achievement.

TA has already marked this achievement's issue via the "External Content" flag

I hate to say it, but external content is not accurate. It should be marked bugged. It should unlock without paid DLC. It's against Microsoft Policy.

Did this achievement just unachieve for me? I thought I had gotten it already, now with this new Indian DLC, I don't have it?

Latest update seems to have fixed this, I don't have the DLC but tried one more match under Full Random and it popped.

I can confirm it was fixed. Thank goodness. I won a Full Random game and popped.

Just winning with every base game civilization was enough for me. No random, full random or any downloadable content required.

With all DLC up to Return of Rome I didn't need to do random. Used the method posted by GolemGaming (deathmatch score victory) to quickly run through them.

I've also unlocked them using a mix of Steam and Windows store, so if it was going to break for anyone it would have been me laugh

Confirmed. Iv tried twice over with every civ including random variants, nothing. They need to fix this as it’s a base game achievement, not fair at all. The DLCs are extortionate

So for I got all the DLC, won a game with every faction that has a separate achievement, even for the Return of Rome ones, still won't unlock, will try random/full random for return of Rome & base game later.

EDIT:
Not sure what went wrong, but systematically replayed 35 games with different civilisations and it unlocked, maybe it doesn't count the civs you won with after a big update/DLC?

So I kind of redo all the civs again, and got it poped at bulgarian. I guess the achievement is just glitched, and random was probably luck that you got the civ that the game didn't count.

Yeah, it's not unlocking for me. I used every regular Civ and purchased every DLC Civ currently available and won with them in Wonder Race. I also played on Random, Full Random, and even Mirror Match. Still nothing. I don't know if it's because the game is somehow already preparing for the Rome DLC before it's even out yet, but I've tried every method in the book, and still nothing.
Unless Wonder Race doesn't count and it has to be a regular Random Map game. (Or there's some special Campaign only Civ.)

The easiest way to do this is by creating a custom map / scenario. Build a ton of archers and 1 enemy villager.

Then go into players select the civilization you want to cross off and then Test the scenario. Your archers will kill the villager and you'll win the match.
Including loading times this takes about 15 seconds per civ. The previously selected Civ will remain selected and be in a red font. EDIT: Make sure to use Random & Full Random as well since they count as civs for this achievement

I also tried converting monks and collecting 20 sheep in the Dark Age but to no avail. I think the Civ wins are just unlocked by ANY gamemode

I'd rather do wonder rushes just because im lazy and all that custom map stuff takes time and energy lol

You can do the custom map only once, then save it and test it with the civilization that you want. Load the custom map again and change the civlization. Repeat how many times do you want and you're done. Achievement unlocked. wink

Does this still work with the new patch (34055)? Just tried to do this to avoid the wonder rushes for Random and Full Random, but it didn't pop for one of the last civs I have yet to play. I've double-checked my settings and when I click Menu / Test, I win in seconds, but no unlock bleep. :(

I can confirm this still works. However you have to load the scenario up in in a standard game. you can no longer do the test way. still way faster. took about 10 mins to do all civs

neither test or loading scenario worked for me - did it with building wonders 9/8/20

I had gotten the "Age of Empires" achievement before the new DLC, but senarios (both testing or loading them in a skirmish) did not work for me. Doing a Wonder Race did work to earn the achievements for winning with each of the 2 new civs.

Whilst most of this can come naturally via random map games and the various campaigns, the quickest way to obtain it is via creating a custom scenario.

You'll want to setup a custom map with several archers for you surrounding a single villager for the player 2. Thereafter set your civilisation to the one you need then save the map, place the map in a custom campaign then play the campaign, as soon as the map loads you should win. You'll then want to change your civilisation to the next one, resave the scenario then resave the campaign. You will need to win as every civilisation and also as it set to "Random" and "Full random". The achievement can be a little glitchy so it's recommended that you just do every civilisation in order even if you have the achievement for that civilisation previously.

An alternative method would be to play random maps, See Prominent Player (20G) for a quick method of winning a random map game.

You must play for all civilizations, including DLC, random selection, completely random and mirror ones. Nations may not be counted towards this achievement in campaigns. So, launch the single-player battle mode, turn on the wonder of the world mode on a tiny map with endless resources, and move forward through all nations from the Armenians to the mirror mode. Then, if necessary, you repeat the same thing in Return of Rome.
