How to unlock the Family Feudal achievement in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition - Definitive Guide
Fairly straight forward achievement but the trouble I had was finding a campaign scenario where you start in the Dark Age and can actually advance. Most seem to start in the Feudal Age or later and any that do start in the Dark Age such as the first Attila the Hun mission, dont let you build town centres.
Anyway, to do this you can play through the William Wallace campaign (European Campaigns) which is essentially a tutorial. You can get the achievement in the 4th mission called 'Research and Technology' a couple of minutes in.
Shouldn't need to explain how to actually do this since the game tells you to do it anyway, however....
You will start off in the Dark Age with 400 food and a Barracks but to advace to the Feudal Age you need 500 food and 2 Dark Age buildings. So use your villagers you start with to build a Mill (picture of a windmill in the build menu) next to the berry bushes just below where your villagers start to get a second Dark Age building. Next, set them to collect the berries. Once you have 500 food, click your town centre, hit the little shield icon with the 'II' symbol on it and once the research is complete and you advance to the Feudal Age the achievement will pop.
Whilst you are on this mission, if you queue up 5 villagers by selecting the town centre and clicking to build 5 villagers (hold shift and left click villager icon on PC). You will also pop

For anyone like me wondering why you can't find this mission - it doesn't exist on Xbox, only the PC. On Xbox, the first four levels are replaced by a single mission called Preparing for Battle, and missions 5-7 are labeled as 2-4. I don't know if the console level is the four PC missions combined and just takes longer, or is something different entirely, but if you want to jump right into the correct mission you'll need to be on PC.

This will come naturally as there are several campaign missions where you start in the Dark age and will need to advance to the next age. As with several of the achievements in this title update, a good level is the William Wallace learning campaign mission 4: Research and Technology. Simply follow the instructions given and you will unlock this as soon as you advance to the Feudal Age.

1st mission of the Attila campaign (Europe). Switch the pink one to the enemy, kill another khan and immediately start the transition to the feudal era.
