How to unlock the Plebeian Preserver achievement in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition - Definitive Guide
In this mission, you have to survive 5 enemy attack waves. In each round you have 10 min to prepare for the attack and then 10 min to hold constantinople. You start with a good army. Concentrate all your units in 2 armies. (Exception is only constantine; put him near the Hagia Sofia) One army is at the top and should protect the gates where the castle is. The other army should protect the main gate in the middle.
You start with 40 villagers. They can stay in there start area for the first 2 attack waves. I put them on food, stone and wood. Before the first wave starts, you can also build extra walls and canon towers around the gates. Also make sure to upgrade cross bow units and canon towers/castles in the Hagia Sofia. The canon towers and walls will destroy the attack waves. You just need to focus to destroy the enemy rams. I just build arabelest crossbow units, cataphracs, hellabadier and some monks. For the sea battles I build dromons, but I didn't care too much about the sea attacks. Make sure to save after every attack wave, because sometimes you can lose track of a villager. After each attack wave, you need to rebuild walls and cannon towers. Crossbow units are awesome in this mission. I didn't care about the side objectives. I just did 2. I found the tower island in the sea, which is really helpful and I destroyed a main enemy ship, which is marked. After the first 2 attack waves I put all my villagers behind the second defense line. There you can put them on wood, food and stone. Dont forget to repair towers and add new canon towers. Also behind the secound defense line. Also you can add walls. This will take a lot of the attack time from the enemy.
You will lose the first defense line, but just regroup your unit behind the second defense line. At the fourth attack wave I put all my villagers near the Hagia Sofia. Sometimes you can take a few villagers and build towers, but be careful. You can also build fisher boats to collect food.
The last attack is until the first of June. I concentrated all my units before the gates of the hagia sofia, but the enemy didn't come trough my walls and tower defensive.

I somehow managed to win the game with the first ring still standing in the end. In didn't expect this in the beginning. Here are some key aspects that worked for me:
1. Cavalry is crucial to counter siege weapons, especially rams. Have at least a dozen ready at each gate. Have monks ready at each gate to heal them after.
2. Upgrade your towers and castles with the usual and special techs, expecially damage and range(!). The northern castle will deal with cannons itself.
3. All kinds of archers PLUS extra towers are really effective, especially at the mid-western and north-western gates. Back them up with 4+ monks per gate. Don't turn them aggressive to keep them in order and behind the walls.
4. The undermost two gates can be neglected to the most part. Just have some cavalry ready in case some rams come down or to flank the rams at the gates above.
5. Replace broken walls and repair towers during the brakes. After that make sure your villagers are quartered safely. This also increases tower strength.
6. ALWAYS make sure that all 40(?) villagers are still alive.
7. Imo. the water sidequests can be neglected. However, they are not that hard to accomplish. Just have enough firegallows ready. Speed upgrade helps a lot.
8. You should keep at least one of your harbor bays safe. If you gather all of your food by fisherboats, you have spare villagers for the other ressources or for repairing.

To get a easier status of your villagers, when start, pause the game, select all the villagers and crtl + 1 , to see all the 40. This way you never miss anyone and load the game as needed.
