How to unlock the Prominent Player achievement in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition - Definitive Guide

OK, here comes the easy way:

You play wonderrace (scroll down where you select the game mode to find this mode) with the following settings:

Starting age: Post imperial
Starting ressources: very high or maybe even infinite works

Your civ: Spanish (Spanish villagers build 30% faster)
AI civ: One that doesn't get the tech Treadmill crane, for example Goth

Now when the game starts instantly start building a wonder.
Delete your scout, cue up a lot of villagers and set a rally point to the wonder. New villagers will automaticly go build on the wonder. Maybe you have to move them a bit from if the pathfinding messes up.
Let one villager build a few houses.
Now there should be no way for the AI do be faster than you.

Not only will you unlock this ach, but also:
Age of Empires II: Definitive EditionSupremely UnexpectedThe Supremely Unexpected achievement in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition worth 223 pointsWin a match as the Spanish while only creating Villagers.

Age of Empires II: Definitive EditionThe Wonder, the Wonder, Noooooo...The The Wonder, the Wonder, Noooooo... achievement in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition worth 9 pointsBuild a Wonder.

Great solution for getting this achievement in a few minutes.

For those new to the game, you can find the 1v1 game modes by clicking on the "Standard Game" shield.

You can select Game Speed: Fast and Advanced Settings: Turbo Mode to speed things along. You can set Reveal Map: All Visible to make it easy to keep an eye on how the AI are doing. You won't need more than 4 houses (25 population). You can delete your Town Center near the end to get another achievement.

The AI deleted their Town Center, and started building 3 Wonders! You have to try really hard to lose at Wonder Race ;)

This achievement does not stack with the other difficulties, so you have to do it 6 times:
Easiest (Peaceful)
Standard
Moderate
Hard
Hardest
Extreme (harder than hardest, lol)

I would queue up the villagers, select the Wonder, then alt-tab to the desktop/second screen and do something else while keeping half an eye on the construction progress.

Also to make it even easier, before you start the game in the Treaty Length option you can even use that so they cant destroy your wonder. so that when its build you can just afk.

edit 30 minutes orso should be enough on treaty.

Elordin, you're playing the wrong mode. In wonderrace everyone is allied anyway. Its just about who finishes building a wonder first. Civs with threadmill crane or spanish build faster, so even of the enemy does create as many villagers as you, you should finish first.

Thanks for the guide, this worked a treat to grab all four. One thing I did in addition to the guide - and maybe I've not realised a glaring negative of this - was to borrow the house-building villager when I had enough population overhead and a couple other villagers to build a second and third town centre and started pumping out wonder-building villagers three times as quickly.

Every time i did this the ai deleted their tc, so they only build with 3villagrrs. Anyway you can build additional tcs but it shouldnt be necessary. Font know if the chinese or maya get threadmill crane. If so, then the additional villagers they start with could speed up ruhe process even more. Whatever the case the original solution works as far as im aware, but if you guys wanna tinker and optimise build time, go ahead

For some reason this does not work for me in "Wonder Race" mode...

no idea why it doesn't work for you rex, but this game has a lot of glitchy achs, that don't unlock when they're supposed to. just try again. Don't know if having the xbox app running helps

This time, I set my resources to « Ultra High » instead of « Infinite » and the achievement popped!

For me it worked with infinite resources, plus I recommend to build a second city center just to be faster

I can't get this to work sadly... I've tried with the exact same settings but it just doesn't unlock for me. Also I see that the AI is an aly, even if you are in a different team. Could this be patched???

One really easy way to do this is to use the Huns, no need for houses.
Have your three starting villagers queue up (by holding down Shift) three new Town Centers and the Wonder.
This will leave a Wonder available for setting your Rally points for your TC's.
Fill the Queue for your starting TC and fill the Queue's of the other three once they finish being built setting the RP to the Wonder.

Goths in post imp with infinite res ?! Yikes, better do a map like Islands vs Turks since those are a really weak water civ

This doesn't stack with lower difficulty achievements (wrong flags)... Thanks, worked great.

Gotta love how easy winning this mode is even on extreme. The AI had like 6 villagers working on the wonder and then they destroyed their TC. Meanwhile I just kept pumping more and more villagers to build even faster and by the time I was done it felt like the AI was maybe at 10%. If you somehow manage to lose in this mode it's time to quit gaming laugh

You can have the 2nd civilization on your team and still get the achievement, no opponent needed.

Path to Decay is correct. Had them on my team and got the achievement for winning with an AI as well.

The AI is supposed to be an Ally, as the AIM of the Mode ist to be a pure economic Battle.
The only explanation i have IS that this Games achs tend to be a Bit Buggy. I Had it on multiple occasions that achs wouldn't unlock and i Had to do stuff again, or the ach would unlock later at a random time, or IT would unlock and Not notify me. I have the Problem that Last sundjata Mission in hard ach wont unlock even though ive done the Mission on hard twice as Well as reloading and finishing IT over and over again.

Gamemode: Deathmatch
Victory Condition: Score
Score: 4000
Starting Age: Post-Imperial

Doing this will auto unlock the achievement as soon as the game is started and works on all difficulties.

Worked perfectly thanks. Also received the “supremely unexpected” achievement using this method and selecting the Spanish

The way I did this was set the location to nomad, Resources infinite and used the vikings as my civ but doesn't have to be them it could be any honestly. I also put map reveal to viable. Once all that is set change your game mode to wonder race and it will ask you to use the preferred settings and say no. If you don't say no to this you will have to set it all up again.

I first started off by building the wonder and set my other 2 villagers to build a town center. Once built I then had the town center build as many villagers as possible. Next set your one villager to build houses and then the other on the wonder. Once you get 25 pop or higher build another town center and then have that one queue up villagers.

The AI will get ahead at first but with two town centers producing villagers you will pass them at about 30% built.

My AI deleted there house and town center and left 10 villagers on the wonder and no more. Not sure if that is different for others.

Age of Empires II: Definitive EditionSupremely UnexpectedThe Supremely Unexpected achievement in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition worth 223 pointsWin a match as the Spanish while only creating Villagers.

Start a new Regicide game as the Spanish, any difficulty, any enemy. Select the "Real World - Earth" map type. I think it's a little easier to see what's going on with the Full Visibility option.

You start in Antarctica with a couple villagers, a transport ship, and your scout. Your opponent has the same... and will immediately move everything but the king into their transport and sail to South Africa. As soon as they leave Antarctica, attack the king with your scout and villagers. He's not capable of fighting back. He'll die pretty quickly, usually he'll flee at first and then get himself stuck against the edge of the map or the water. Takes less than a minute, even on the hardest difficulty.

I got this using a method a bit different from the other two guides here. I set up a 2 player game with teams on. I set myself and the AI to the same team and locked teams. I then played the game until all relics were collected or the wonder was completed.

The easiest method to do this is on Deathmatch. You set the game treaty time so that you have 90 minutes before can be attacked which means you arent on the same team but the AI gets temporary ally status. Then just build a few houses then spam villages to make a wonder and just wait.
The timer tuns out well before you can be attacked and you will unlock the achievement you can even go afk. The computer will just build towers and castles near you base to intimidate you.
The good thing about this method is you dont have to race the AI as it will try to go for a conquest victory as default leaving you to easily build your wonder and wait

Simply win a match against an Extreme AI. See below for a quick method to this.

Play Wonder Race, Infinite Resources, with any civilization, on desired difficulty setting, post-imperial starting age, Turbo building mode. As soon as it starts send two villagers to start building the wonder. Then spam up your villager create queue in Town Centre up to 14. While clicked on the Town Centre, quickly set Gathering Point on the wonder. This will automatically make a villager made from that Town Centre start working on the Wonder.

Have your third starting villager build another Town Center and spam the villager queue again, setting the gathering point to the Wonder, then have him start building houses. Seven or eight is probably more than sufficient.

If you win at this difficulty level, you will not receive achievements for lower difficulty levels.
Preparation: single player, nation - Huns, endless resources, map explored, starting and ending era - dark era.
From the start we grab 3 workers and run to the enemy base to build barracks. We order another 5-10 workers and drive to the enemy base. We need to build barracks and soldiers in them. The essence of the strategy is to build warriors without stopping (we order them through shift, this means immediately ordering 5 units) and send them to the enemy base. We need to throw "meat" at him. If we kill 20 enemy workers, we will get another Dark Humor achievement
Or you can create an “island” map, build a miracle, build castles and wait. It is better to make the unit limit 25 or 50
