How to unlock the Raja of the People achievement in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition - Definitive Guide

Prithviraj Campaign, Mission 1(reworked from previous version).

The achievement pops immediately upon completing the first objective to save the villages, so no need to play the whole mission!

This is tricky to get because your units will get wiped out if you don't micro-manage and abuse the pause button.

Start immediately with a pause button, then split your forces into 2 groups with half of each unit in each group.
I did:
Left group: 2 Camel Riders, 2 Shrivamsha Riders, and 1 Scout.
Right group: the 6 other units.

Target each armored elephant with the respective groups, then wait for your groups to arrive and pause as necessary.
The groups will wipe out the elephants fast, and you need to be ready to target the enemy Light Cavalry(the only other really dangerous units to the town centers).
As soon as you kill the Cavalry units, pull your groups away from the town centers in a zig-zag fashion to lead the ranged units away.
If you lead them far enough away initially the Town Centers will be rescued, you DO NOT have to kill all the enemy units.
The range they need to get away is something like 10 squares from any of the town's buildings, although it may vary or there may be another mechanic at play.
Most likely neither town will be freed initially, and you will have to focus your forces.
I focused all my remaining units(4) on the east side town, and led the units away, while focus killing them. Then I did this with the other town.
Prithviraj is very useful as a tank, because the enemy units will attack him instead of the others, and it's very helpful to keep a camel rider alive to quickly kill the elephant archers.

This is a very fast achievement, but a little tough until you figure out how to make it work.

Just for the idiots like me maybe: This is not in one of the new campaigns, but the slightly reworked Prithviraj campaign in the Asia tab.

Also this worked quite well, thank you.^^

Ah yes, thank=you for the reminder! I forgot to make a note on that, I'm trying to add those tags to these solutions because they forgot to. lol!
And thanks for the feedback!
This one only took me like 5 tries... Doing this on Hard would be like Halo 2 LASO.

Tried this today, range not working anymore. Split your armies and kill elephant units and riders. After that just lead archers away from your TC and regroup somewhere in the middle. Kill archers near one of TC and get first one. After that just train new units and finish archers somewhere near the second TC

division of troops worked for me. target the closest scout, then the war elephant the the other scout, then have both teams leave and meet in the middle. hopefully, one enemy group will stop attacking on TC. so, reserve and to back to the other one, replenish your forces, and then finish the other TC. note: of you save the south TC first: use the monk to the east to health or forces. took me 3 quick tries.

With careful unit control this worked well. A word of warning. Even if the enemy are no longer attacking the town centres, you cannot hang about killing them as reinforcements will arrive.

What worked for me:
1 Pause game with F3 to make 2 groups, one attacking north one attacking south
2 Focus on 1 battle elephant and 2 scouts on both sides. Once killed retreat both groups to lure some enemies away.
3. With 1 large group finish one side, then once finished send the survivors along with villagers + 2 spawn 2 new cavalry to quickly finish the other side.

Post Dynasties of India DLC this scenario has been changed and the lure trick no longer converts TCs and more units attacking the towns. Not to fear however because the same strat applies. Following everyone else's advice the trick is to split your forces and go straight for the 2 siege elephants. Helps to hotkey your 2 groups. With the Siege elephant down immediately pull your two groups into the empty land between the towns. If you're lucky you won't have any lost units and if you've lost more than 1 or 2, restart until you get it. Ideally you want Privthiraj still alive as the AI will target him and you can use him to kite the remaining Ele Archers while your others mop them up. When every unit is dead you'll have both towns, I didn't bother with the monk.

Good guide. Thought it would be tough on controller as you can’t ‘tactical pause’, but managed first try with a lot of luck. Put the game on slow and cleared the melee targets from both then regrouped in the middle. Two crossbows and two elephant archers at the top base got aggro’d on the town wall. This meant I could clear the bottom base, put the villagers on food, get some cav upgrades and a few more units to swoop in the the top one with ease.

Excellent guide! For a video version of the above, I used https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8Xr7LkTqnQ. I saved the upper village first and then snuck the villagers down to the southeast corner and then up to the town center to repair it while two archers attacked the town center. They changed the focus of fire to the villagers, of course, but by the time they killed them all I had repaired about half the health, buying me more time to kill the other archers.

Thanks to everyone's tips, I managed to get this at the very first attempt!

Splitting into two groups with at least one camel rider in each group, prioritising killing the melee elephant in each town and pulling back from one town to reinforce the other are the key to success.

I also did a mock run before and had a good look at the unit composition of my troops. So i didn't have to pause on my second run.

Split your initial army into two and rush them to kill the armoured elephants. Then the enemy scout.
(It's the best to go the east town centre first since it's further)

In one village, lure the ranged unit outside so they will focus on attacking other buildings. Focus your army in the other side in order to free it first.

Build archery range and train some skirmishers (since they're the cheapest), kill the remaining enemy units trying to attack your walls.
