How to unlock the Battleship achievement in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition - Definitive Guide

The key here is to build palisade walls all along the coast. The Turkish fleet will actually attack the walls but with a navy; they won't live long enough to create a big enough opening for their troop transports. As you develop a stone economy, add castles where you feel vulnerable.

Although you might miss the odd transport, they just can't unload when there is nowhere to land.

I didn’t need the palisades. I saw how awkward it was to try and map out the entire coast. Wasn’t about that life.
First wave attacks from the North East section so it was just a balance of about 30 villagers and the rest being ships.
Build the economy. Scum it it Quick Save to see when and where the next wave would come through, slowly build up the fleet and have a good mix of Cannons, Galleons, Fire and Demo’s. Send them in small squads to patrols in Defensive mode across the waters. Squads didn’t need to be any bigger than 6/7. 2 Cannons, 2 fire, 2 demo and a galleon was more than enough to hold their own against the waves.

Ignore the Wonder to begin with and gather resources first. Once you’re stable, get the Greeks on your side, then go for the Wonder, cue the replacement ships and wait it out

This achievement WON'T unlock if you defeat the Turkish (purple on the map) in the southeast, it only unlocks if you win by the wonder years reaching 0.

I destroyed the turkish without constructing the wonder, it did win me the game but the achievement didn't pop. So after reloading the game and building the wonder and waiting for 200 years I again won the game and then it did pop.

can confirm what jantrance wrote above - defeating Purple will NOT unlock the achievement, you actually have to build and defend the wonder for it to unlock as of 09/06/2020

I would like to add that when they unload between your gated city and the city of your allies, this will void the achievement. Only 1 ship tried to go there for me, but to be safe it would be smart to pallisade that as well. Here is also plenty of room for some castles.

For anyone like me that had ONE transport barely sneak by and unload on a tiny speck of land that I missed palisading:

!!!BE AWARE THAT AN ENEMY LANDING VOIDS THE ACHIEVEMENT EVEN IF YOU RELOAD!!! I had one speck of land without walls and ONE transport sneak by and I watched them unload with incredulity before reloading. I then finished the mission and no achievement popped. I had to complete the entire thing over again (I was at 25 years left on the wonder!!)

So just to be safe, if you see a transport heading for the shore and you can't intercept, just re-load. Don't let them land, no matter what.

I only had to play this once. And I think it’s cause I did a combination of both strategies. I set up the wood wall all along the coast line of my and greens area. And I also set up a line in the water with ships all across the map. When the wall was finished, and I had an excess of materials for ships. I deleted all workers and filled out the ship line with more ships. Besides initially, when the wall stopped one transport ship. Nothing got close. The ships were more than enough, but the wall was a nice insurance.

I can confirm it works on Xbox even if you reload a save if they land.

Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition (PC) - Achievement - Battleship

Win the Historical Battle "Lepanto (1571)" without allowing any Turkish Transport Ship to unload on your shores.

There are only a few areas on your land that the Turkish fleet will attempt to land on, so it's not a case that you have to defend the entire coastline. In this video, I split my naval forces in to four groups - Each controlling an area where troops can potentially land. Your given a verbal notification when the enemy tries to land as well, so be mindful of that and react when you hear it to make sure your taking them out as soon as you can. It should be noted that they don't try to land immediately - You do have some time before the first Transport Ship will come, but this appears to be a time trigger. It is not triggered by you allying with the Greeks or completing your Wonder. There are a few small islands off your coast (some containing gold and stone) that you can build towers on to help you defend. You have access to Bombard Towers which make short work of the enemy ships.

Found this suggestion in the comments of a YouTube video for the achievement. The transport spawn is located in the south/south-eastern area of the map. Rush demolition ships and build your navy while gathering resources. When the green AI offers to become your ally for 800 gold, it's worth it as they will start to tribute you gold and wood. Use the tributes to build walls, ships and upgrade your navy.

Build a castle or two along the coast or near your docks by the wonder. Set your dock gathering areas to choke points near your island. You'll also want a blockade between your eastern most dock and the middle island. Make sure to send some ships to guard the northern most section of your island.

The real trick is to be persistent with rushing the demolition ships against the Turkish transports and navy where they spawn. Be warned as they do have accurate bombard towers and a castle near their docks. But with the help from the green AI's tribute, you should be able to do this while strengthening your navy guard.

You'll still want to build walls in case the random transport manages to slip by your navy.

This guide worked best for me after failing on the other guides for several times.

I added a few notes for those who have not played in a while and want to get through it as fast as possible. Skip reading this if you want to figure it out as you go which is basically what I did except for putting 4 groups of ships where Purple goes to and adding a town center near the gold very early on.

Use 1 fire or demo ship to reveal more of the map by setting a bunch of waypoints with shift key on the black fog.

DO NOT START THE WONDER EVEN WITH 1 VILLAGER as that starts the transport ships to hit over and over.

Delete all Onagers

At start, send half villagers to the gold outside of gate on left side and the other half to farms on the right side of main land. Get 15 farms going then add 15 to wood then use a gold villager to build new town center just south of gold and add more villagers.

Population max at 100. No need to exceed 50 villagers.

At same time upgrade University upgrades and all ship upgrades and possibly 1 market upgrade so no fees to contribute later on.

When you see GREEN say we gave you long enough to consider being allies then pay the 800 gold.

At start you will bunch up your ships to fight the PURPLE fleet coming over. After that battle, use your shipyards to build 1 fire, 1 demo, 1 war galley, 1 cannon ship for the 4 spots/locations that Purple will use the entire time. You are trying to get around a dozen ships to each of the 4 groups.

Your population gets to 100 quickly so grab 5 gold miners and transport to the Islands right around GREEN allies with you for 800 gold. Use them to get stone and also build cannon towers around perimeter of island. Remember to use SHIFT key so your 5 villagers go from building tower to tower.

Grab another 5 villagers and do same on the other island.

Try get University and Shipyard upgrades done ASAP along with faster chopping wood.

Make a save again and move your wood villagers to building the Wonder.

Now that you have the towers up, you can spread out the ships.

Goto castle and upgrade so you can see the entire map. I think it was around 6000 or 6600 gold when I did it. You do not need all the villagers on the main land once Wonder is built so as an option you could delete them to build more ships to make sure no transport ships get through.

Keep adding ships equally keeping the blend of your fleet around 4 of each ship so that's 16 ships. 16 ships x 4 locations and you got it covered since the towers help out so much. Deleting villagers and adding more ships was key for me as when Wonder timer gets below 50 years is when they attack with more ships. When timer goes below 20 years Purple sends everything. You should not have to do anything but watch and move any newly built ships to where other ships were destroyed.

This was way easier than trying to put up walls on the coastline of the beaches including between you and GREEN ALLY as any transport making it to beach there, nullified the achievement for me.

I recommend playing the mission normally and focus on getting some fireships. Spread them out as there are only 4 routes they can take. The enemy ships are scripted and come in the same sequence. You can save after every succesful prevention

Immediately as the game starts press F3 to pause the game. You will then want to instruct all the villagers around the wonder to do something else such as economy, etc. Doing this will prevent the enemy from rushing you immediately.

You will want to build defences along the shore line, essentially just castles to prevent the enemy from landing and make use of your navy to destroy transport ships.

Note: destroying a transport ship with a demolition ship will obtain you the D-Day (D stands for Demo) (10G) achievement.

The best place to build some castles is on the edge of the nearby islands as this will mean the ships have to pass to get to land.

You can later on build plenty of elite cannon galleons and go on the attack. This will allow you to destroy the enemy docks and buildings as well as sink the transport ships still at their base preventing them from ever reaching you.
