How to unlock the Daimyo of the Nine Provinces achievement in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition - Definitive Guide

For this mission I didnt care about the side objetives. When the mission starts you can immediately build an archery and go to the castle age. In the meantime you can build for all your wood fisher boats.

Then start to build villagers and build up your eco. There are 2 gold spots near your base. For the right spot just build a transport ship and bring villagers on the other side. The other gold spot is on the left side. (First path left.) There are 4 ninjas.

Then just start building spearmen and samurai. When you have an army of 40-50 units, you can start attack the first castle on the right side. Then just rebuild troops and cavalry units and move your troops along the coast to the next castle. The castles can't defend themselves when your units attack the building, so make sure to kill all enemies and then attack the building. After (purple is dead)that I started to attack the first castle on the left side (yellow). You need always around 50-60 units. Then repeat that with all the other provinces, but don't destroy the last one.

Before you destroy the last castle you can build fire ships and bring them to the shogun's base (red; north). There are some transport ships. Put many fireships beside them.
You can build houses around the damaged castles. So they can kill many enemies. They can't kill them, if they being attacked directly. (It doesnt matter, if you have updated everything in the libary.)

So you can basically save almost all your units for the last battle.

Start to destroy the last castle. Then you have 5 minutes to prepare for 150 units from the shogun.

Maybe your fireships can destroy some transport ships. I was able to destroy 2 of them. I think some transport ships may spawn in that moment. Then just let your castles with the help by some units defeat the army. After that gather all your troops and bring them with transports ships to the shogun's island. Be careful. There is a good spot on the very right side to drop your units off.

I did the mistake to put them in front of some gates. I lost many units there. Also carefully navigate your transport ships there. I lost 2 transport ships because they were in range of one castle. This cost me so much time.

Drop as many as possible units there. The shogun has probably 45 hero samurais there. (15 in each castle(3)) All 45 units attacked me, when I started to attack the first castle. I lost that battle, with around 10 enemies left.

I had to produce many hero samurais again and many spearmen. I dropped them again off, at the same spot. I killed the enemies and then destroyed the castles. After destroying the second castle, I brought some reinforcements and then destroyed the last castle. Despite some mistakes, I managed to get the achievement with just 2 years left.

But I am not a really fast Aoe gamer.

I was afraid of the timer, but you should not be. There is enough time in this mission. Also, don't be afraid of the shogun attack. I didnt try anything to prevent it or slow it down. I even did all the side quests for the portuguese which makes him angry. The shogun sends his troops with ships. Therefore, you can prevent 80-90% of his troop landings by just sinking his boats. Build some upgraded towers along the western and south-western coast of your starting area and add some fireships to be sure. Concerning the castle attacks, a large part of them can be easily destroyed with cannon ships. For the rest, just use your foot troops, especially heroes and horsed samurai.
