How to unlock the Dark Humor achievement in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition - Definitive Guide

Start a game on the easiest level, infinite resources, tiny map and 8 players, build houses, barracks and militia, then just go around killing the civilians, you will have it in no time.

As a side note, the goths now get cheaper infantry in the dark age so are the easiest civ to mass militia

Got 2 villagers registered, then I got the hang of it, but none of the villagers registered as killed by this achievement.

As best as I can tell, you do not need to take out 20 villagers in a single game session to unlock this; you can tally up kills from multiple games. I unlocked it after three games, after getting about 6-7 kills in each of them.

If you play as the Huns you will not have to build houses

Play as Huns. You do not require houses to be built

Easiest method without major cheesing,

Just set the max age to dark, play long enough to allow the AI to get enough villagers.

You won't have to worry about them advancing to feudal, and you can just get enough villagers to spam militia non stop.

Start a random map game with 7 easiest enemy AI and infinite resources. Set the max age to dark age, then simply build a barracks and lots of Militia and send them out to kill the enemy villagers.
