The Hojo Clan is already your ally in game, but sometime in the game you will get the optional objective to send a trooper to their base. Simply don't and defeat your enemies without them, they will simply remain in their camp.
This game can best be won with lots of archers, as the enemy mainly uses halberdiers and samurai. shield your archers with some samurai and infantry or pick them off one by one with cavalry archers. Raid the camps one by one and make sure to build some trebuchets for the castles at the end.

Also the Japanese have a unique tech which makes the trebuchets unpack and fire really fast.
I personally found that 6 trebuchets protected by 60 fully upgraded foot archers (60 is max you can move with one click) meant I was able to breeze through this level.
You only need to leave a few fire ships scattered around the docks to protect fishing ships.

Win the Historical Battle "Kurikara (1183)" without forming an alliance with the Hojo clan
This achievement is quite straightforward. Early on in the mission, you will be notified that the Hojo clan are willing to ally with you and you are prompted to send a unit to them to see where this leads - Simply don't do it and complete the mission as you would normally. You start with a fortified city with all the buildings you need and abundant resources, so it's not a difficult one.

You will get to a point where the Hojo clan request for you to send an envoy to them to discuss an alliance. Just ignore them completely and instead just progress and finish the level. It's relatively easy but having upgraded elite samurai and trebuchets with your unique tech makes it a breeze.
