How to unlock the No Suntzu Light achievement in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition - Definitive Guide

The best way to do this solo is to make sure to use the Arena map. This spawns both you and your enemy with stone walls around your base, giving you a perfect target to soak a bunch of arrows into.

Set up a 1v1 as Chinese against Easiest AI, Infinite resources, 500 pop, Post-Imperial age, on a Tiny sized Arena map. Set visibility to All Visible.

Note that Arena is the Location, not game mode.

Once in game, send one villager to build houses while the rest build a bunch of castles. Churn out Elite Chu Ko Nu from your castles en mass and direct them to attack the enemy stone walls. The enemy will probably build a few other buildings and soldiers, but your mass of archers will take care of them.

Save your game once you have 200 or so archers, just so you don't have to re-do the setup part every time, then reload that save every time the enemy resigns. You can type the taunt 104 in game to prevent the enemy from resigning.

I only had to reload twice, and in one of them the enemy resigned really quickly for some reason, so it may only take you one reload. In real time it took just under 20 minutes, including game setup.

Just got this achievement on 24-08-2020 with the mentioned solution above. I think the taunt 104 is really helpful!

Also just attack all of the walls first, the achievement popped after destroying >90% of all the walls of the enemy, just to give an indication. Enemy was randomly chosen on bulgarians which don't have fortified walls. Maybe pick an enemy which has fortified walls, which will allow to soak up more arrows before being destroyed. Civilizations with fortified walls when writing this comment are:
Fortified Walls are available to all civilizations except for the Bulgarians, Cumans, Goths, Huns, Magyars, Malay, and Persians.

Good solution, though maybe add that you'll need to play the Chinese civilization.

Thanks! Got it my first try with this method. Added having a 10 minute treaty, made a ton of castles and houses, blocked off the enemy team's exits (trapped in walls those that did get out and built another castle next to them), then pumped out almost 500 Elite Chu No Ku like a madman. Had this achievement probably 10 minutes after the treaty ended, tops.

Also, gonna add, play in Sudden Death. The AI probably won't ever resign (though I did try the 104 taunt just in case) and as long as you don't let your units target the town center, you can't accidentally trigger any other loss.

do these have to be done in one game, or is it cumulative over multiple games?

The easiest way to boost this is to go into a game and choose the Chinese as your Civ. If you prefer, then boost this with 1 partner.

sure you start with the default boosting settings:
Infinite Resources
Post Imperial Age as starting Age
Fast gameplay
All Visible
500 max Pop

Turbo on
Full tech tree on / off, no relevance for this achievement

Winning conditions: Standard

---
Both you and your opponent / boosting partner should do this and completely mirror each other:

-Build a some Castles and Town Centres and spam build 40-60 villagers and about 120 Chu Ko Nu.
-With your Villagers start building 2 Wonders.
-Select 60 Chu Ko Nu's and press ctrl + 1
-Select the other 60 and press ctrl + 2
-Now put both groups on No Attack Stance (they'll still attack your manually selected targets)

When the wonder completes, have your opponent attack it with 1 of his groups and repair the Wonder constantly. It takes about 17-18 fully repairs to get the amount of arrows required (If want to keep track of it then I recommend stop and starting the attack and repair rather than doing them simultaneously)

Both of you can now do this for 2 wonders at the same time to speed things up.

As a bonus, this also offers you an opportunity to also get
Age of Empires II: Definitive EditionFinal CountdownThe Final Countdown achievement in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition worth 89 pointsDestroy an opponent's Wonder with less than 100 years remaining on the Wonder Victory countdown.

your achievement will pop mid game so just be patient, this will take 10 min of shooting tops

Start a random map game, post imperial age, infinite resources, turbo mode, tiny map, 1 easy enemy AI, map all visible, set the map style to Arena and your civilisation to Chinese.

Once the game starts build several castles then a load of elite Chu Ko Nu, hit enter to bring up the command interface and enter "104" (this stops the enemy resigning). Once you have several large groups of Chu Ko Nu, take them to the enemy base and start destroying the enemy walls and buildings. By the time most of the walls are destroyed the achievement should have unlocked.
